AUSTRALIAN FIRST CAR PARK APP
SUMMER AT THE LIBRARY
Fairfield shoppers are being invited to join an innovative, Australia-first ticketless parking system at Nelson Street Car Park in Fairfield. The Blue Dot parking application (app) is like a parking account on your mobile.
For people with a smart phone (iPhone or Android) and who park at Nelson Street regularly, the app will make parking and paying simple and more efficient. Users will be able to pay for parking using their smart phone in three easy steps:
• Download the free Blue Dot parking app and register your details
• Enter the car park – the app will recognise you, open the boom gate and start your parking session.
• When leaving the car park, the app will again recognise you, open the boom gate and securely charge your allocated credit/debit card with the appropriate fee for the length of your parking stay.
Customers will no longer have to queue for tickets, pay cash into machines or worry about finding their ticket if they misplace it.
Learning is fun and can be enjoyed by children year round. Fairfield City Open Libraries are making this a reality for children through the introduction of the Mayor’s Summer Holiday Program. The program is a great way to make reading fun for your children and encourage them to interact, be creative and be in the running to win some amazing prizes including one of five iPad mini’s or one of 15 family pool passes to any Fairfield City leisure centre.
The program will run from 30 November 2015 to 29 January 2016 and is open to participants ages 0-16 to read or listen to a story for two hours a week. This year’s theme is ‘Super Heroes’ and children will have the opportunity to attend superhero reading and activity days featuring a special guest ‘community hero’.
The program will end with an action packed performance by ‘Fly by Fun’ who will be delivering an entertaining show where children can meet some of their favourite superheroes.
Libraries provide an essential service to our community and are a place where children can start and continue their learning journey.
Visit one of Council’s libraries these holidays to register for this fantastic program.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTSFairfield City hosted a number of community and cultural events that drew crowds from all over Sydney and beyond to experience the best of what our City has to offer. Here are a few highlights from the past couple of months:
Children’s WeekFairfield City threw an epic party on 1 November for Children’s Week 2015. Hundreds of parents and children came and enjoyed free face painting, clowns, kite making, drumming, an animal farm, air brush tattooing, craft and dance activities. The highlight of the day was The Minions musical experience LIVE!
Grandparents Day
Fairfield City honoured the incredible contribution of grandparents on Sunday 25 October at Fairfield Adventure Park, one of the best playgrounds in South West Sydney. This family fun day included a free sausage sizzle, ice-creams, rides and a giant celebration cake with family friendly activities.
Culinary Carnivale
Culinary Carnivale dished up delicious food and entertainment for the 5th annual Spanish and Latin American street party as part of Good Food Month. The 8.4m Asado barbeque was a huge hit alongside other mouthwatering treats. Brazilian dancers and Mexican singers complemented the exotic cuisine and amusement rides ensured a fun-filled family event for all.
Open Air Food Fair
Fairfield City Council’s inaugural A Taste of Asia open air food fair was popular with locals and foodies hungry to try Cabramatta’s famous authentic cultural cuisines. Recipe workshops, herb gardens and delicious tastings alongside dessert king Reynold Poernomo from MasterChef Australia made for an enjoyable afternoon for the whole family. Taste Tours were also on hand to take people on a journey through the hustle and bustle unveiling Cabramatta’s hidden treasures for the walking ‘Signature Dishes’ food crawl.

FAIRFIELD YOUTH & COMMUNITY CENTREThe Fairfield Youth and Community Centre was officially opened on Friday 9 October 2015 by Mayor Frank Carbone, Mr Chris Bowen MP and Senator the Hon Marise Payne.
This $8.5 million project was a jointly-funded program by the Australian Government and Fairfield City Council, with a $250,000 contribution from the Mount Pritchard & District Community Club Limited (Mounties).
The youth of Fairfield City had a great afternoon trying the new centre features, which include rock climbing, in-built trampolines, outdoor half basketball court, program rooms and a chill out zone with arcade games and pool and air hockey tables.
This one-of-a-kind facility has been purpose designed in conjunction with our Youth Advisory Committee to meet the needs of the City’s youth.
The Centre operates Monday to Thursday from 3pm to 6pm for drop-in visits and structured youth programs provided by Community First Step.
The Centre is available for hire seven days a week upon application. Specific spaces can be hired by schools, sporting groups, sports associations, youth service providers and community groups. For booking enquiries call the Fairfield Leisure Centre on 9754 2078.

Work is well under way on the $13.6 million upgrade of three significant Cumberland Highway intersections and Wetherill Street in Smithfield.
The upgrades are part of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to assist council’s in delivering better roads around the Western Sydney airport site.
Services at all intersections have been relocated including traffic signal adjustments and power pole relocations. Water main and gas main relocations at the Hamilton Road intersection are scheduled to commence early 2016. Council anticipates the Cumberland Highway project to be completed by early April 2016.
The Wetherill Street Widening Project, from Polding Street to Victoria Street, commenced in August with civil works progressing to The Horsley Drive intersection.
Kerb, pavement and drainage works are progressing onto The Horsley Drive intersection, with the intersection works expected to be completed by the end of this year. The road works from The Horsley Drive to Polding Street are expected to start in January 2016.
Currently, Telstra and electrical service relocation works are occurring between The Horsley Drive to Polding Street and are expected to be completed by the end of this year. The anticipated completion date for the entire Wetherill Street project is late March-early April 2016.
Minor disruptions to road traffic can be expected during these times and residents will continue to be updated by Council.

Nineteen species of microbats and three species of flying foxes have been recorded in the Sydney region.

The refill station has a bubbler and water bottle refill nozzles so you can bring along your own water bottle, and help us all save on landfill by refilling with clean, filtered water.

Some existing bookmarks will no longer work and will need to be updated.
Keep a look out online.
