Councillor Nigel ClarkeAfter two and a half years aspart of Brentwood West, working on your behalf, I wasdelighted to be elected as yourcouncillor in May, after a close(very close) election!

I take a very active part in Brentwood life and havecampaigned for an hour’s free car parking in thetown centre, done my bit to keep Brentwood Westtidy, cleared snow for residents and, earlier this year,Cllr Karen Chilvers and I cleared a footpath (ten bagsof green rubbish in all!) in the ward that had becomeovergrown and impassable. In Clements Park, when we discovered some illegalslow burning fires on the building site, I evenimpressed the neighbours by jumping over the wall(I paid for it later!) to see if it was safe. But one theme of a councillor’s work seems torevolve around two things: parking and speeding. We have been working with residents on both issuesand I am in regular contact with the police aboutenforcing speed restrictions with extra patrols beinginstigated at my request.Last month, we were very disappointed at the messthe Tories made of the Lighting Up Brentwood event. We want to be proud of our town, but the more theyrun it into the ground the more difficult it becomes. Please support Brentwood Liberal Democrats as wesupport you - see:

One final important point - please vote to KeepKaren in May 2011 - West’s Cllr Karen Chilvers is upfor re-election on 5th May 2011 and there is no waywe want to see her lose her seat after all her years ofhard, hard work and standing up for you!

Councillor David KendallThis year, I have continued tospeak up for you at County Hall onissues such as Banking on Essex -recently featured on the PoliticsShow - & environmental issues atCounty Hall. In fact, I have tableda motion or questioned the Tory administration atevery full council meeting at Essex. It’s not beenpopular with the Tories but it is what I promised you!Summer saw me at the bus stops of Brentwood afterTory-controlled Essex Council refused to consult withall bus pass holders on changes to their pass -so I distributed the consultation form myself. As the main opposition party on Brentwood Council, the Liberal Democrats have been fighting hard foryou. We get plenty of criticism from the Tories as wefight your battles on car parking, the Town Hall, flawed and inadequate consultations with residents,Lighting Up Brentwood etc....but this year has alsoseen acidic attacks from Labour - ironic given theyagree with the Tories more often than not! Don’t befooled - we are the ones fighting for you all year!We have also seen our council tax used by the Toriesto try to discredit Cllr Barry Aspinell. After a two yearbattle that saw Barry suspended, the Standards Boardfor England overruled the decision, and suspension, saying the case should never have been brought. Is this really what you want your money spent on?Recent weeks have seen the start of a battle to saveour Town Hall. After years of Tory neglect, they arenow trying to “sell the family silver” and seem to bepushing for a new civic centre. Again, changing theface of Brentwood with barely any consultation andjust doing what they want to do.Brentwood belongs to YOU, the residents, not theTories - and we will remind them of that every day.
