As an owner for over eight years, and a member of the Board of Directors for five years (off & on), I thought that I knew a lot about White Horse Park. As it turns out, I don't know even a quarter of what I need to know. But I am learning – quickly! Sue was a great teacher, and I still rely on her from time to time for information and guidance. I want to thank the ladies in the office, Judy and Janice for their patience and understanding while we are going through this transition period. They, too, have been a wealth of knowledge for me to learn from. As I am adjusting to the position, I have been varying my hours to try to determine what works best for the Park. So far, I have decided that Monday is a definite work day, and probably an eight hour shift. Friday is a definite work day, but I am still trying different hours to see what works best. As of the week of August fourth, I will also be working Wednesday. In the future, I may try Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Again, I will be varying hours to determine the best fit for the Park and for the new manager. The reason that I bring this up is that if you are trying to contact me, it would be best to leave a message and I will get back to you. At the last Board of Directors meeting the issue of drainage was brought up by a resident. The Board has decided to keep a file of drainage issues to see what remedies can be used to alleviate the problems. If you have a drainage Life is like the ocean. Marina update

The concrete walkway from the blacktop to the dock has been completed. This includes a concrete pad for the port-a-potty. This has been dubbed "Willy's Way" in honor of the late Willy Goheen. The walkway also contains the names of four other late members of the Marina Committee: Les Miles, Stan Campbell, Dick Layfield, and Marvin Short. Our maintenance crew did the framing and the concrete work as well as completing the deck work between the concrete walkway and the main boat dock. As I write this, Curtiss Electric is installing the last few electrical fixtures in the shed and the lean-to. As soon as he completes this work, Doug can finish the sheet rock in the shed, and then Jake can install the camera system. Next week, we should be able to plant the decorative grasses on the left side of the ramp. Once done, we will be able to have the final inspection done. I want to thank all the volunteers who helped, especially Larry Harnly who has also offered to assist Ed Webb with the Marina Committee.

The Marina Committee would like to THANK the owners who donated items that were sold at the Yard Sale to support our Marina. Total made was $70.50.

IS YOUR BOAT READY FOR

THE 2014 BOATING SEASON?

Neal Marder a WHP homeowner at Lot #222, is a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and certified to perform Vessel Safety Checks. Neal will inspect your boat at the Marina or in the boatyard. The inspection is a courtesy and each boat that passes the inspection will receive a 2014 decal. The boater can call or text him at 484.431.9289 to arrange a time.

CRAB LINES AND POTS

Line crabbing is only permitted at the gazebo. Not the canal, not the walkway to the gazebo; the gazebo only. Absolutely no crab pots at the gazebo. The gazebo is for all people who want to crab by hand line only. When you are finished crabbing, please remove all lines from the gazebo railings. If you do not rent a slip at the marina; do not put a crab pot in a slip. Crab pots and lines ruin boat propellers and possible the engine. Please be courteous. Many people enjoy walking down to the marina. Kids love to play down there. As a parent or guardian, please advise your children of the following: Do not pull crab pots or minnow traps up if they do not belong to them and absolutely No bikes or skate boards on the pier. Some adults do this also so please be courteous and respect others property and our community property. (See rules and regulations for a complete list)

SAFETY

As everyone knows we have been having a very dry, dry summer so far. Please observe the following:

Do not throw cigarette butts out the car window

No fires allowed unless contained and with a shield over top. No embers are to escape. Have a bucket of water or sand readily near your grill.

When grilling the required distance to place your grill at least is 10 (ten) feet from your unit. Fire Marshall's inspection and recommendation.

Remember: WHP DOES NOT HAVE FIRE HYDRANTS. OUR FIRE RESPONSE STATION IS SHOWELL VOLUNTEER FIRE STATION. A UNIT IF ON FIRE WILL BURN TO THE GROUND BEFORE A FIRE TRUCK ARRIVES >PLEASE BE WATCHFUL!!!!

WATCH OUT for cars and pedestrians Please do not ride your bike after dark (when street lights come on). After dark a bike must have a proper fixed light on the bike. I see many young ones racing around on their bikes after dark. I don't want to see them hit by a car. Parents, you are responsible for your children's actions.

PLEASE WATCH YOUR SPEED

Our community is coming alive with people strolling, walking dogs, bike riding and skate boarding. Remember there are no sidewalks.

PRESIDENTS CORNER

The summer seems to be passing faster than ever; it has been a busy season here at the park. Many members have been enjoying the new marina. It is something to be proud of that's for sure. It is also great to see so many families enjoying the amenities in the park. The Snack Shack has been very successful. Thanks to Linda for all her hard work. We had a good meeting in July. Thanks to all who came out for it. Some important issues were discussed and decided at that board meeting. We will seek 3 bids on the construction of the pavilion at the clubhouse and will forego the expense of an engineer. The Board will not issue any reimbursement for the time the marina was not available, however, if any slip holder would still want a reimbursement we will issue the full amount to that slip holder with the stipulation that they forfeit their slip and receive their $400.00 back and we will make that slip available to the next person on the waiting list. The slip holder can then add their name to the waiting list if they choose to do so. We will consult with the lawyer in reference to moving forward with a lawsuit against the previous engineer for the ramp design. We voted to renew our contract with the Security Company. We tabled the pool pass gate system for now. We voted to allow NO FIRE PITS IN THE PARK, THAT INCLUDES BOTH WOOD AND PROPANE FIRED ONES. We are addressing an issue with the distribution of alcohol at our events, Georgine DeBord, brought up a question as to whether it was legal for us to provide alcohol at our events. We will pursue this will all to make a determination before the Crab Feast. The Board agreed to allow snacks in the pool area on a temporary basis to see how it will work out. I hope that if it is possible that members attend the board meetings, it is an opportunity to express your opinions on decisions being made by the Board and it is a good time to get to know some of the other members. The Board will meet before each Board Meeting at 8;30 at the clubhouse for a work session and the regular Board Meeting will begin at 10. The next Board Meeting will be on August 16th. As always if you have concerns you can forward them to the Board through the website, written and submitted at the box in the foyer of the office or to me personally at my mailbox here #41.
