Alumni Spotlight

Meet Quincy Tintle —big First

Grader!

We had no idea quite what an

impact Quincy's time at Sweet

Pea made until he hit

kindergarten.

The mixed aged classes at

Sweet Pea made him more

understanding of the fact that

classrooms are filled with kids

of all abilities. The rotations at

Sweet Pea made it easier for

him to transition to different

stations and activities. The love

of creativity and natural

curiosity infused into every

lesson at Sweet Pea made him

an eager learner. Quincy's

Sweet Pea foundation prepared

him so well for kindergarten that

he was awarded Citizen of the

Year for his class!

Christy Duffy

Scholarship Program

The Christy Duffy Scholarship

program is a vital part of Sweet

Pea Cottage’s mission to enrich,

inspire, challenge and expand

every child's world through an

arts-based education.

Early education and cultural

exposure is a focus that we are

proud to be a part of. Our

amazing donors are generous,

caring people who believe in

what we do.

We are truly grateful every year

at their generosity. It is because

of this support that we are able

to financially assist members of

our community to reach their

educational goals.

Thank you for the inspiration to

continue to grow our amazing

garden of possibilities.

Fund-An-Item Update

We would like to thank all the

wonderful and generous families

who donated to the Fund-An-Item

over the past two auctions. Your

generosity has raised nearly

$20,000 toward outdoor play areas

& equipment.

Sweet Pea is working hard to bring

this wonderful outdoor play garden

space to life at all of our campuses.

With the support of the Queen Anne

Baptist Church, The Center for

Spiritual Living and the Westside

Unitarian Universalist Congregation,

we will be able to build a safe and

creative outdoor play area for the

littles to learn, play and grow!

Kindergarten Update

What an incredible and magical

first year we have had in Miss

Sarah’s Garden! I am so lucky to

have spent the past year with

such an amazing group of

students who have grown

immensely from the first day they

walked into the classroom.

This year, they built a solid

foundation for learning and

discovered new ways to work as a

team by developing positive

communication skills in their

small classroom setting.

Through our diverse programming,

the kids went on several field trips

to explore their local community.

They mastered their musical skills

by learning to play the ukulele

with Mr. John, and created

numerous masterpieces in art

class with Miss Monica.

Inside the classroom they have

become reading machines,

expanding the word wall and

working through some challenging

chapter books. The kids recently

raised their very own ladybugs

and butterflies, which we set free

into nature.

They are truly creating a loving

and respectful community in the

kindergarten classroom by

supporting each other’s voices

and cultivating life-long

friendships. I couldn’t be more

proud of our first graduating

kindergarten class and I am so

excited for the many promising

opportunities that their futures

hold. — Miss Sarah

“Bloom!”

Sweet Pea Cottage’s 11th Annual

Dinner & Auction “Bloom!” took

place on March 2, 2014 at the

Renaissance Seattle Hotel. Wow –

what a magical evening it was!

More than 175 guests wined and

dined while dancing the night

away and raising money for Sweet

Pea Cottage and arts education.

We would like to sincerely thank

all of our families for making this

great event happen. It is through

your enthusiasm and passion for

arts education, that our auction is

a success each year.

From our families and local

businesses, we received more

than 80 bundled silent auction

items, 17 live auction items and

150+ bottles of wine for our Wine

Cellar. And because of your

generous donations, we raised

$76,597. Fantastic!

Where Do Your Donations Go?

Tuition covers 90% of annual

operating expenses; we rely on

fundraising to cover the rest. The

majority of donations after auction

expenses will go toward our

General Operating Fund. This

helps keep tuition affordable,

retain talented teachers, bring in

guest artists and maintain our

facilities.

$7,975 was donated directly

to Fund-An-Item. This will be

used to build the outdoor play

spaces for our littles.

$20,106 was donated to the

Christy Duffy Memorial

Scholarship Fund. This gift will

help send 5 new littles to

Sweet Pea next year -

amazing!

Double Your Donation…For Free

If your employer has a matching

fund for charitable contributions,

they may consider matching your

donation if you gave to the Fund-

An-Item or Christy Duffy Memorial

Scholarship Fund. This is a great

way to stretch your gift to Sweet

Pea Cottage and help support our

programming!

Letter from Miss Cammie

Our littles, parents and staff are a

family; a family who supports each

other as we blossom into our best

selves and continue on our path of

discovery.

This is certainly a year to be thankful

for, as we proudly graduate our first

Kindergarten class and support the

future of arts education in our

community. We saw an auction that

raised over $20,000 for our

scholarship fund and our after

school program—Lathyrus Theater,

which has flourished and grown in

several of our Seattle Public

Schools.

I am so grateful that we as a

community feel such pride in our

incredible teachers, who bring to our

littles an amazing program full of

inspiration, care and creativity.

Thank you to each and every one of

you as you’ve given a part of

yourselves to our garden of

possibilities.

Graduation will soon be here for our

littles heading to kindergarten and

this is always a bitter sweet moment

as we say goodbye. We will look

forward to hearing about all their

amazing adventures. I am so thrilled

and excited for what lies ahead for

Sweet Pea, as we reach others with

our message of Arts Education and

Community. I truly appreciate every

moment and I thank you for another

wonderful year. — Miss Cammie
