Animal Ministry: Making a Difference Exciting things are happening with our Animal Ministry! In June, they unveiled a plan that included a new endeavor: fostering dogs. A few weeks ago, a plea was sent out about two dogs in desperate need from Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. One of the dogs was adopted out of the shelter quickly. The second, a Wheaten mix, is now being fostered by Sarah Addison, one of the heads of our Animal Ministry. He is now with Sarah learning basic manners and how to trust other people and animals, while he waits to find his forever home! His picture is below. Also in the news is that Petco Adoption Days have begun! Robin Herman, through her Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue, which is supported by our Animal Ministry, is currently fostering fifteen dogs. July 15 was the first day that five dogs were brought to Petco in Carmel for adoption. Kris Soper, a member of our Animal Ministry team, partici- pated. She says, “This is one of the best things I have ever done in my life! Our dogs were the best behaved of all the adoption groups there and we even had two placements, which I thought was great!” Nora, a Cavalier King Charles/Papillion mix, shy as could be, slowly became more comfortable with people and became the “marketing” dog. She and Kris spent time sitting in front of our table at Petco. The table could be seen down the main aisle, and Nora just smiled and welcomed everyone, and was eventually adopted. Kris says she was happy to be a part of the event and proud of our success. Please visit Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue (ldrrescue.org) if you are interested in adopting a dog. You can also contact Sarah Addison ([email protected]) if you are interested in working with the Animal Ministry. Our Animal Ministry is about building a strong network of people to help animals in need, helping at the Indianapolis Humane Society, assisting with adoption days at Petco for Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue, and fostering dogs rescued from kill shelters. The continued growth of the Animal Ministry will allow for many more lives to be touched, positively affected, and saved! Anniversary Sunday Next Sunday, we will celebrate our 21st Anniversary! Animal Ministry: Making a Difference

Exciting things are happening with our Animal Ministry! In June, they unveiled a plan that included a new endeavor:

fostering dogs.

Kris Soper, a member of our Animal Ministry team, partici-pated. She says, “This is one of the best things I have ever done in my life! Our dogs were the best behaved of all the adoption groups there and we even had two placements, which I thought was great!” Nora, a Cavalier King Charles/Papillion mix, shy as could be, slowly became more comfortable with people and became the “marketing”

dog. She and Kris spent time sitting in front of our table at Petco. The table could be seen down the main aisle, and Nora just smiled and welcomed everyone, and was eventually adopted. Kris says she was happy to be a part of the event and proud of our success.

Calling for JusticeA bipartisan group of City/County Counselors — including

our own church member Zach Adamson — proposed legislation that would provide domestic partner benefits to gay and straight couples who work for the City of Indianapolis or Marion County. This legislation has passed the Council and is now waiting for the Mayor’s signature. If you’re a resident of Marion County, now is the time to let our Mayor know your support. Take a moment today to deliver a message: call the Mayor’s action line: (317) 327-4MAC or go to www.indy.gov/eGov/Mayor/getintouch/Pages/ContactUs.aspx.

Close Encounters and the Four Agreements

The Close Encounters of the Heart Oasis has begun a study of The Four Agreements, a book that seeks to reveal the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffer-ing. All are welcome to join the conversation on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm at the church. Questions? Contact Larry Heavilon at [email protected].

Can You Spare Two Hours? One of our pastoral apprentices, Justimore Musombi, needs to

get a driver’s license so he can commute between our church and seminary in Richmond. The process is complicated since Justimore is from Kenya and is a new driver.

The only thing standing between Justimore and his license is 10 more hours of supervised driving.

Seminary classes begin Thursday. So that gives us just a few days to get Justimore 10 more hours of supervised driving. Can you take a two-hour shift? If so, you would pick up Justimore at the home where he’s staying on the east side of Indianapolis and super-vise him as he drives your vehicle for two hours.

Family Day at the Waterpark! We are not ready to let go of summer just yet! The Family

Ministry invites all families to join us for a fun-filled afternoon at the Monon Community Center (1195 Central Park Drive West, Carmel) next Sunday after the 11:00 am service. You can enjoy the waterpark, explore the 161-acre park grounds, hike the trails, or relax with some quiet swim time at the Indoor Aquatic Center. The cost for the activities is $10 for adults and $6 for children under age 18. Some facilities (like the gymnasium and fitness center) require an additional fee. Reserve your spot today by completing the inter-est form below.

September 11th Prayer VigilSt. Luke’s UMC has once again invited LifeJourney Church to

join in their annual Prayer Vigil remembering the tragic events of September 11th, while praying for healing to come to our broken world. This year’s vigil will be held on Sunday, September 16 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and our church will be responsible for 45 minutes of that time. If you’re interested in being a part of this vigil, complete the form below and we’ll share event details.
