Lego Land® Explore and challenge your creative potential for designing and building Lego® structures and motorized machines. Gear up your trip to LegoLand® by creating and designing in teams to build Lego® robots with a working “brain”. The hands-on intersection of math and physical science is just the beginning of your journey through LegoLand®. Introduction to WeDo STEM Expansion (Grades 4-5).

Hold That Chick & Other Barnyard AnimalsChicks are here when you arrive ready to be named. Learn how to hold them & care for them. Learn about all types of critters found on the farm & how to have fun finding some of them. Then, get a first-hand look when we visit a local barnyard.

App Adventures! The Next Level - NEW!Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! All students will choose from a selection of different mobile app types and explore more in depth programming concepts. Student created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smart phone or tablet to take the class.

App Attack! Make Your First Game App - NEW!Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized game development tool, students will explore the world of phone-based and tablet applications. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the World of App’s publishing functions. Student created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on anymobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class.

Clay Animation - NEW!You say you like animated movies. You want to make a movie? You always wondered how they make those characters move in the movie. Then Clay Animation may be right up your alley! You will sit in the director’s chair to create your own clay animation movie, writing both the script and storyboard. You will create characters and take pictures needed for your movie. Students will easily add text, music, and voice to the images they create in their animated movie.

Co-Ed GolfLearn the fundamentals of grips, swings, proper body position, and clubs. You will get plenty of practice putting on the campus green along with skill development games and relays. Campers are grouped according to age and ability, and will play at the Lehman Golf Club on Friday. Bring clubs and a drink each day. Girls’ VolleyballBeginners to experienced players will benefit from this week of fun learning key volleyball fundamentals! By incorporating drills and team games, you will learn the essential elements of serving, serve receiving, forearm passing, setting, hitting, blocking, team serve reception, team defense, and transition to offense. Campers will also work on leadership and teamwork exercises. The end result will be a love for the sport of volleyball!

Lego® Mindstorm Robotics® Design and build a high tech Lego® robot in this hands-on computer and construction camp. Work in teams to create a working robot that you have designed from the NXT Lego® software, hardware, and website. Create an obstacle course for your robot to navigate with its light sensors and motorized controls. Computer-wise campers and building brainiacs will take their Lego® Mindstorms® to new heights!

Animal Adaptations - NEW! Seeing is believing all the ways animals explore our world. Learn outdoor games and explore environments of people, pets, and wildlife.

Animal Art/Art Through Children’s Literature - NEW! Children will enjoy stories by Leo Leonni, work in learning centers cooperatively and create animal art. The student will discover adaptations and habitat through nature walks.

Camp DescriptionsMad ScientistLet’s head to the laboratory and see what happens! A variety of educational and stimulating experiments will shed new light on the exciting world of science. Camp scientists will explore life savers, floating paper clips, and fried marbles; create quicksand and tornado machines; and conduct many more MAD experiments!

Wacky ScienceWhat happens when...? What if we put...? If these are your kinds of questions, join us and experiment with us! Concepts we hope to explore include liquids and solids, acids and bases, magnets, and bubbles. Caution! Our experiments and concoctions could transform you into a Mad Scientist!

Make Your First 3-D Video Game - NEW!By popular demand, we are now offering a 3-D game design class. This experience allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2-D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3-D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and story telling. Student created games will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family.

Make Your First Video Game! - NEW!If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the crucial keys to designing your first 2-D game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics and elements, music and sound, software, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore as you learn how to really get into the game because you made it yourself! No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student created games will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers.

Math-Tastic Adventures!Get ready for a week-long adventure that will take you on an exciting journey around the mathematical realm! You will explore fractions using food, investigate geometry and patterns in nature and art, use computer games to explore operations and computations, conduct measurements and surveys during outdoor games, and use math strategies while playing sports. By the end of the week, you will be an elementary mathematical genius!

Musical Theatre: Disney’s Aladdin Jr. Spend one exciting week learning what it takes to put on a high-spirited musical production! Campers will have a show-stopping good time learning all aspects of a musical production - from staging, prop and costume development to singing, acting, and dancing. This camp culminates in a full-blown performance for the family and friends on Friday at 2p.m.

University PoliciesCamp Cancellations The University reserves the right to cancel any camp due to insufficent enrollment or for other unforeseen circumstances. If a camp is cancelled, registrants will be notified immediately and registration fee refunds will be processed. Please note that the University cannot be held responsible for any other costs, charges, or expenses.

Cancellations and RefundsRefunds will be made only if a written cancellation is recieved at least seven (7) business days prior to the first day of the camp. After that, the participant or organization will be held responsible for the fee. To cancel a registration, fax your cancellation notice to 570-675-8308 or email it to [email protected].

AccessPenn State encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. ConfidentialityFor safety reasons, the University cannot release the names and/or phone numbers of other participants, even to those who wish to carpool.

Lunch and Snacks Students enrolled in a full-day camp should bring a packed lunch. Please note that we do not have the capability to heat or refrigerate lunches. All lunch periods are supervised by Penn State staff.

Please note that snacks and beverages are not provided. However, campers are welcome to bring their own snacks and/or beverages, which may be eaten during breaks scheduled by the instructors.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up All campers must be dropped-off and picked-up daily in the Athletics and Recreation Building. Before and after-camp care is not available, so campers may not arrive more than 15 minutes early or be picked-up more than 15 minutes late. For secutiry reasons, parents/guardians are asked to notify the instructor at dismissal time that they are taking their children.

How To Register Advance registration and payment are requested at least two weeks prior to the camp start dates. Camps have limited enrollment and often fill up quickly. Early registration will also help to ensure that a camp is not cancelled due to insufficent enrollment. To register your child, complete and return the following two forms: Registration Form (Page 1) , Med-ical Consent Form, and Univeristy Releases (Page 2) by mail, fax or online. For online registration, please refer to the course codes indicated underneath the camp title. Registrations must be postmarked by April 25th to receive the early bird discount of 10% off per camp. Confirmation will be emailed to you upon receipt of your registration.
