Young people Worldwide• To ensure the future of the HVAC industry,
professional societies and organizations are committed to advancing its programs and services for young members (STUDENTS AND YOUNG ENGINEERS) through helping them build their professional foundations.
• With this in mind, those organizations created a committees called Student Activities and Young Engineers, for members age 35 and younger!
Young people Worldwide• In today's time of extremely rapid development of new
technologies, in the race for knowledge and experience, constant competition and continuing education, I need to emphasize importance of the close communication between students, young engineers and professionals
• Permanent and close connection between students, young engineers, young researchers and professionals is a force that can perhaps its greatest strength - the strongest stimulus to overall future potential economic development
StudentsWhat are the benefits? • Scholarships – engineering and engineering technology students are eligible for
both Society and chapter-level scholarships. • Discounts on publications for your coursework and throughout your
professional life. • 250 active student branches at universities around the world. • Reduced registration to ASHRAE Annual and Winter Conferences. • Chapter programs hosted by industry leaders• The annual Student Design Project Competition offers an opportunity to apply
your classroom knowledge of practical design to a real project. • Undergraduate Program Equipment Grants fund colleges and universities
worldwide to promote the study and teaching of HVAC&R, encouraging undergraduate students to pursue related careers.
• Grants-in-Aid allow for graduate students to continue their education in the HVAC&R industry.

SmartStart Program• Allows student members to transfer to associate membership after graduation for
discounted rate.
• Basic Rate– First year is $25, second year is $85, and third year is $110 = $220 for 3 years– Save $400!
• Developing Economy Rates– First year is $25, second year is $45, and third year is $55.– A member qualifies for the Developing Economy rate if their country of residence is
classified as a low or lower-middle income economy by the World Bank
• Associate membership provides access to all ASHRAE member benefits• All current ASHRAE Student members are eligible to transfer using the SmartStart

YEA Leadership International (YLI)YLI has the same goals as YLW, which is to act as an opportunity for future leaders of ASHRAE to learn more about Society, develop soft skills and network with other young professionals.
Event has been held in Sri Lanka, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, India, Greece, Hong Kong, Serbia, and now Dubai again.

LeaDRS• LeaDRS Program (Leadership Development through Regional Support)
• This program offers ASHRAE members the chance to shadow their Director Regional Chair (DRC) during an ASHRAE conference. Participants are selected based on demonstration of leadership capability on a committee or at the chapter level.
• Operated at the Regional level. Check with your Region for information regarding applications and deadlines.
Leadership U
• Up to four YEA members are selected to shadow one of the four ASHRAE VPs at an ASHRAE Winter or Annual Conference.
– Candidates selected via application process.– During the conferences, candidates will be matched up with an ASHRAE VP to
participate in all of their events and meetings, including social activities– Candidates will document their experiences and present them to the YEA
Committee, their Chapter, and their Region

HVAC Design Scholarship• What: HVAC Design: Level I – Essentials training allows attendees to gain the
fundamentals & technical aspects to design, install and maintain HVAC systems.
• Scholarship: Funds the full cost of registration for (5) applicants/round with (2) rounds/year. Any additional costs not covered (transportation, hotel, etc).
• Criteria: All applicants must be ASHRAE members and 35 years of age or younger as of July 1 of that society year. Student members are not eligible. Applicants will be reviewed based on contribution to the industry, ASHRAE involvement and career goals.
• Round 1: Application open May – June ; Training July – December • Round 2: Application open November – December ; Training January – June
