Your Academic Advisors
Academic Advising
Academic Advisors are available to all new students.
Faculty Advisors are available to returning students based
upon the student‟s major. Students should contact their
Faculty Advisor to schedule an appointment.
Advisors will also work with students who wish to take
classes at any regional campus.
Advisors see students throughout the semester by
appointment only.

Our goal at Ivy Tech is to provide you with the support you need to be successful in your life and in your career.
Q: What is a Credit Hour?
A: A credit hour is the number of hours you spend in class each week. Most classes are 3 credit hours.
Q: How much time will I have to study?
A: We recommend that for every 1 hour in class, you spend 2 hours outside of class studying. This means for a 3 credit hour class, your total time commitment would be a minimum of 9 hours per week.
Q: What does it mean to be a full-time student?
A: At Ivy Tech Community College you must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours to be considered a full-time student. This means taking 4 or 5 classes each semester.
*Students taking less than 12 credit hours are considered part-time.
How much time do I have for school?
There are 24 hours in a day and 168 hours in a
week.
First, determine how much of your time is
already committed before starting classes.
You can use the following chart to estimate your

Registrar’s Office (Student Records)
The Veterans Affairs Office serves as a liaison between students who are
veterans, their dependents, and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The
office assists students with veteran status and dependents of service disabled or
deceased veterans with their educational benefits. For specific program
information, students may visit the GI Bill website at http://gibill.va.gov/ .

Financial Aid
Ivy Tech participates in various
types of federal and state financial
aid programs which provide assistance to many students.
Ivy Tech also provides financial assistance to students from its own
resources. Students are encouraged to carefully explore all
financial aid options at their campus.
What is Financial Aid?
Financial aid is money that is given, paid, or loaned to you
to help pay for your degree at Ivy Tech.
There are several types of financial aid for college
students:
Grants & Scholarships are given as awards and do not require
repayment.
Loans are borrowed from a lending institution. You are required to
repay the loan amount and interest fees.
Work-Study Employment is a part-time job at a college where you
can earn a paycheck to help pay for your tuition and fees.
How Do I Know if I Qualify for Financial Aid?
Financial Aid is determined based on
information that you provide on your FAFSA.
FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid
This includes grants, loans, and work study.
Many scholarships also require you complete
the FASFA.
What happens after I file my FAFSA?
You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) by mail
or electronically within 5 business days after you file.
How is Financial Aid Determined?
Complete your FAFSA. This will determine:
• Cost of Attendance (COA) = how much it costs for you to go to school (direct and indirect costs)
• Expected Family Contribution (EFC) = how much the U.S. government believes your family can afford to pay for college. This is based on Tax Information & Family Size
• Student Need = COA – EFC
*Your financial aid is based on your student need

Deferment Plan
The Business Office is where students pay their tuition fees. Students must be in
an “arranged to pay” status by the payment deadline for each term, or the student
will be dropped for non-payment (de-registered).
A student is in an “arranged to pay” status when one or more of the following is
posted to the student‟s Ivy Tech account:• Any of the following Financial Aid options: Grants, Loans, or Scholarships
• Payment in Full
• Payment Plan (deferral) Minimum down payment required
• Employment Payment Notification/Purchase Order
* The following forms of payment are accepted: Cash, Check, Debit Card, Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, or
Discover), Money Order, Cashier‟s Check
* Tuition Payments can be made via the following options: In person at the Business Office, online at
http://cc.ivytech.edu, or by phone at 1-877-489-8324
*Tuition Refund Policy: When you enroll in classes, you assume a legal responsibility to pay for those classes. If you
decide to stop attending a class or classes, you must formally withdraw from the classes by submitting a “Change of
Enrollment Form” to the Registrar‟s Office. Check with the Business Office for the official Tuition Refund Policy.

Student Life, Development and Leadership offers students the chance to become
involved in the social, cultural, and leadership activities and programs at the
college and in the Northwest Indiana community. A few of the program offered
include:
Student Government Association: SGA provides students with the opportunity to take part in student
governance and represent the student body in key leadership positions.
Student Leadership Academy: This year-long program engages students in discussions and activities
involving Leadership of Self, Team, Organization, and Community.
Student Organizations: Students are encouraged to join existing organizations or start a new
organization. Organizations are based on social, academic, and cultural interests.

School Closings and Campus Safety
Due to insurance and risk management issues, children are not allowed to be on
Ivy Tech property without direct supervision by parent or guardian. Children are
not allowed in instructional areas. Ivy Tech does not offer childcare services on
any of the Northwest Regional campuses. Students can contact any of the

Distance Education Classes
Distance Learning:
Before enrolling in a distance education course, consider the following questions:
Are you a disciplined person?
Are you a self-motivated person?
Have you activated your Ivy Tech email account?
Are you comfortable sending and receiving email messages?
Do you know how to surf the web?
Can you open an email attachment?
Can you attach a file to an email?
Do you have an Internet Service Provider?
Do you have the appropriate software or the means to obtain said software if it is required for the class?
Do you have the resources to visit an Ivy Tech campus in order to complete proctored work?
If you cannot answer "YES" to all of these questions, then you should reconsider taking classes online.
Before Your Class Begins, you must:
• Check your detailed schedule on Campus Connect to
verify classes, times, start dates and locations
• Verify your financial aid through Campus Connect and
turn in any needed documents
• Authorize the bookstore to charge your financial aid
account for books and supplies through Campus
Connect
• See the Business Office to schedule payments if
financial aid is not available by your start date
• Get a Student ID at the Library
• Take your printed schedule to the bookstore to select
and purchase your books

What happens if?...
I miss the first day of my class?
You must attend the first day of class, students who are absent during
the first class session can be involuntarily withdrawn from the class.
If you receive Financial Aid, it will be affected if you do not attend all
classes during the first week.

What happens if?...
My financial aid is not ready?
– If your financial aid is not ready by the time
that classes start, you must make payment
arrangements with the Business Office.
– Notify instructor that you do not have required
textbook and supporting materials.
– GO TO CLASS!!!!!
What happens if?...
My work schedule changes and the times I
chose are no longer convenient?
– You can make changes to your schedule
before the semester starts.
– Talk to your instructor and advisor about
possible section changes.
What happens if….
Once the semester starts, I stop showing up to
class?– Unless you fill out paperwork with the Office of Admissions, you
will remain registered in your class.
– If you are registered for a class, you will receive a F grade.
– If life starts to get in the way of school, ask for help. Your
teachers, your advisor- we are here to help.
