Services Provided by the Recreation Council... The Recreation Council is a clearinghouse of recreation and leisure information for individuals with disabilities. We provide information & referral services, do community presentations & trainings, publish information on recreation resources, maintain a recreation resource center of books, DVD's and adaptive equipment, run a voucher program to help with fees for overnight camps and community recreation, have cooperative agreements with local parks and recreation departments for inclusion services, and support innovative partnerships to create inclusive recreation opportunities. Visit our website www.recreationcouncil.org for all our publications. Click on your county/city for area specific information.

$$$ Recreation Voucher Program $$$

The voucher program, funded through the Developmental Disabilities Resource Board of St. Charles County (DDRB), helps with the cost of community recreation programs, adult adventure programs, and youth summer overnight camps. Applicants must have a developmental disability documented through the Department of Mental Health (Regional Office) & reside in St. Charles County. Funding is based on the program you select, is done on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications are available online or by contacting our office.

ADULTS—consider attending park sponsored day trips Your local park go to fun locations like Fairmont park, local theater, Springfield Illinois, Herman Missouri, sporting events, city tours, and more. You can see more about the day trips and our funding at our weblog, www.rec4scc.wordpress.com and click on “Community Resources.”

Personal care funding for St. Charles County CHILDREN who attend a MUNICIPAL PARK SUMMER DAY CAMP

Municipal park summer day camps accommodate all needs for children with disabilities, except toileting, feeding, and dressing. If your child has these needs and wants to attend a municipal park operated summer day camp, contact the Recreation Council to apply for funding. You hire & train the person, so your child can attend camp like everyone else. Talk to your child’s para-professional at school to see if they want extra hours in the summer. Contact the park inclusion coordinator, Brita Weight, to talk about your special needs at 314-359-9970.

ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT Borrow one of these pieces of adaptive

equipment at no charge to improve accessibility as you travel.

Suitcase 5 ft. Ramp: The ramp can be used by participants who need to use steps. The ramp collapses into to a 5 foot-1 inch suitcase with handle for easy portability. (not pictured)

The Roleez Platform Dolly: Roll your wheelchair right up on the Platform Dolly while someone pushes you through a variety of terrains.

The Recreation Council is not responsible for the claims made or services delivered by programs or organizations listed in this newsletter. We recommended that you research the quality of a

program prior to attending, & give as much information as possible about the participant when enrolling.

WEEKLY FUN-FREE EVENT POST www.rec4scc.wordpress.com
