Tiger Trust and I identified that our purpose is
to:
“Inspire people to care for wildlife...
Naturally!”
The main objective of Tiger Trust is to raise the
issue of protecting this majestic animal by
strengthening the hands of the protectors by
providing the support for reducing the menace
of poaching and granting them better facilities
to prosecute the offenders of wildlife crimes
which is an acknowledged fact even by the
Government of India. It is a biggest challenge to
arrest the causes of extinction of this majestic
animal – the Tiger and also to educate the
masses all over the world. I appeal globally to
join the cause of this near extinct animal all over
the world.

Tiger Trust completed its 25 years of “caring for the wild”. All these years the only
aim this organization held was to stand up for conservation of wildlife and natural
resources. With all the different activities and trainings, Tiger Trust also carried out
various awareness programs throughout Rajasthan and Delhi to provide awareness
in students - the future decision makers to come for conserving the wild.
Tiger Trust had, in the past, organized several campaigns to invite attention from
dignitaries and higher officials addressing various issues threatening wildlife and
natural resources. “SAVE THE ROAR” is a similar campaign which is being carried
out by Tiger Trust to give an opportunity for students from all across to come
together and share their ideas and experiences.
This year, Tiger Trust and National Tigers forTigers Coalition from the USA,
organized a 3 day “SAVE THE ROAR” National Summit with students from
Vasant Valley, Delhi; Maheshwari Public School and Tagore Public School,
Jaipur; Janta Balika (School and College) and Tiny Tots, Sawai Madhopur; with a
total of around 250 participants. The nature camp continued from Jan 3 to 5, 2014
at Hotel Siddhi Vinayak, Sawai Madhopur. The program included interesting
sessions and talks from the most eminent dignitaries in Rajasthan. Tiger Trust in
partnership with Nature Club of Rajasthan worked as co-hosts for the event.
Officials like Mr. Rahul Kumar – PCCF (HOFF), Mr. Rahul Bhatnagar – Field
Director Ranthambore National Park and Mr. Balendu Singh – Honorary Wildlife
Warden graced the occasion with their presence and enlightening discussions with
the students on conservation of tigers.
The students had interesting interactive sessions with these officials and were able to
gather a lot of information on conservation topics at once. These sessions enabled
the students to even improvise on the presentations they were supposed to give in
the program through which the audience was able to relate more to the actual
situations.
The students were also fortunate to attend a session on Photography on 5th January
by Mr. Sandeep Sharma where the students proved to be extremely talented. The
students were also taken for safaris on various occasions to build a more genuine
thought in them regarding conservation of tigers. Many students saw a live wild tiger
for the first time during the camp.

Ranthambore National Park or Ranthambhore is one of the largest national parks in
northern India. It is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan,
about 110 km north east of Kota and 160 km south east of Jaipur, which is also the
nearest airport.
Ranthambhore was established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in 1955 by
the Government of India, and was declared one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1973.
Ranthambore became a national park in 1980. In 1984, the adjacent forests were
declared the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary, and in 1991 the
tiger reserve was enlarged to include the Sawai Man Singh and Keladevi sanctuaries.
Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is known for its tigers and is one of the best places in
India to see these majestic predators in the jungle. Tigers can be easily spotted even
during the day time. Its deciduous forests were once a part of the magnificent jungles
of Central India.
The park covers an area of 392 km², and is one of India's Project Tiger reserves.
Other major wild animals include leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, striped hyena,
sloth bear and chital. The reserve also has a thriving bird population with more than
270 different species of birds. It is also home to wide variety of trees, plants, and
reptiles. Ranthambore is also the site of one of the largest banyan trees in India.
The park is best known for its large tiger population. As tourism in the park
increased, so did the population of neighboring villages. This led to increasing
amounts of fatal human-tiger interactions and poaching.
The first aerial relocation of the male tiger (Dara) from Ranthambore to Sariska was
done using a Mi-17 helicopter on 28 Jun 2008 by Wing Commander Vimal Raj.
Unfortunately, this translocated tiger died on 15 November 2010 due to poisoning.
The park is home to a famous tigress referred to as “Machhli” (fish) which has
successfully survived its years in the forest of Ranthambore. The tigress is one of the
biggest attractions for the tourists.
Today, Ranthambore Harbors 55 tigers (including cubs) as per the information given
by the forest department. Few tigers have started dispersing to other areas for
forming a bigger territory which has caused threat to their lives.

Tiger Trust invited few of the very prestigious forest officials as guests in the program
to interact with students and encourage their presentations.
1. Mr. Rahul Kumar – PCCF (HOFF)
Mr. Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of
Forests and Head of Forestry Force, delivered a
talk on Tiger conservation for the students to
understand the status of tigers in Ranthambore
National Park. He was able to make time in his busy
schedule but was extremely humble and supportive
towards Tiger Trust for its initiatives. His future vision
for conservation is always admired by Tiger Trust.
2. Mr. Rahul Bhatnagar – Field Director, Ranthambore National Park
Tiger Trust has been fortunate enough to be able to be
acquainted with people like Mr. Bhatnagar. His
jurisdiction is all over the park and therefore, he
knows his park inside out. Apart from being able to
join us in the program, Mr. Bhatnagar was gracious
enough to spare another day for an interactive session
with the students where he answered many
management related queries that students had making
it really easy for them to understand how matters are
handled on the ground. He provided immeasurable
support to Tiger Trust for carrying out this program
successfully.

3. Mr. Balendu Singh – Honorary Wildlife Warden
Mr. Singh has been acquainted with Tiger Trust from
long back and is renowned for his excellent tiger
pictures. He was specially invited by Tiger Trust in this
program to deliver a talk to the students sharing his
experience as a forest officer starting from the scratch
and excitements encountered in it. He is extremely
modest about his photographic gift.
4. Mr. Sandeep Sharma – Wildlife Photographer
Mr. Sharma’s passion for wildlife and nature has driven
him towards wildlife photography. He has tried to
capture as much as possible in his camera which for
others have indeed proved to be master pieces. His love
for Machhli has amazed others and his techniques are
held in high regard. For the same purpose, Tiger Trust
invited Mr. Sharma to share his insights on good
photography and technical arrangements in a camera
while picturing a wild animal. He has supported Tiger
Trust from a long while and he still encourages the

anniversary of Tiger Trust by Ms Anjana Gosain and Mr. Rahul Kumar
After the poster release, Ms. Anjana Gosain also
facilitated the release of a New Year calendar on
Behalf of Mr. Sandeep Sharma. The peculiar
feature about this calendar is that it is dedicated to
a Ranthambore’s Tigress “Machhli” which is the
oldest living tiger in the park. It is 18 years old and
its territory is getting shrinked due to increase in
competition but it is still surviving with all its
might. The calendar displays some of the most
amazing pictures/moods of the animal in its
habitat. Mr. Rahul Kumar and Mr. Rahul
Bhatnagar were invited for the release of this
calendar.

On 5th January 2014, Mr. Sandeep Sharma was specially invited by Tiger Trust to
educate the students on wildlife photography. The session was attended by students
from Vasant Valley, New Delhi and Tigers for Tigers coalition, USA in the conference
hall of Hotel Siddhi Vinayak at 7:00 pm.
Due to Mr. Sharma’s excellent tiger pictures and extreme patience for obtaining such
pictures, Tiger Trust figured it to be a very valued session by all the students to learn
the techniques of taking good photographs, not only of wildlife, but in general as
well.
Mr. Sharma explained the students the very basics of photography so that they could
understand the adjustments in a camera prior to taking photographs. He also
interacted with students on “one to one” basis.
He suggested the students to have patience for being a wildlife photographer since
the animals will not necessarily be in an “Auto” mode. He explained his experiences
with “Machhli” during his first few visits in Ranthambore and how that individual
amused him so much so as to dedicate his New Year calendar to the very tigress.
He demonstrated the use of flash by clicking pictures with and without it, explaining
students when the flash is necessary and otherwise. He even gave good tricks to take
group photographs in low lights and closed halls. His techniques were greatly
enjoyed by the students and teachers.

and if any suggestions they have for us for future camps. Following feedback was
received back by Tiger Trist from different schools:
- Ms. Mona Datta- Teacher, Vasant Valley, New Delhi
- Ms. Sunita Vashishta – Teacher, Maheshwari Public School, Jaipur
“We were able to enlarge our understanding of the
importance of tiger conservation and the situation of
tiger nationwide and worldwide. We also learnt some
wonderful things about the forest. It taught us to be
patient and calm and how to appreciate the tiniest of
things around us. We learnt that if you wish to succeed
in something, you must have a burning passion for it.
Future camps could be organized to be longer, so that
students from different schools and universities get to
interact”.
“We understood a lot about the „Big cat‟. How they move
about and hunt in wild. Meeting Mr. Sandeep Sharma and
Mr. Balendu was a great thrill as they also shared their
experiences. It was a great opportunity to interact with
students from Delhi and Clemson University and share their
experiences about the pain of the animal in captivity.
In the future, we can go in different groups and lot of
interactions should be arranged which would definitely
require more time so the period and the no. of session can
be enhanced”.

- Sean Carnell - Founder of Tigers for Tigers Coalition, USA
- Mrs. Lekha Gupta – Teacher, Tagore Public School, Jaipur
“It was a great opportunity for us to get a better
understanding of the issues facing tigers and what
we can do about it. It was also fantastic to see so
much enthusiasm from the students. I thought that
the speakers were great and the panel was a great
way for the students to ask questions.
If we wish to host the event next year, we should
designate a specific day or two solely for the
event. This will give us ample time for more
discussion”.
“It was really a wonderful experience for all the
students and teachers and we wish to have such
memorable programs in near future too. We were
extremely fortunate to be able to communicate
with some of the most renowned people from the
Forest Department of Rajasthan
If possible, we would like to suggest keeping the
sessions a little longer with an increase of
opportunity to interact with the other students
and exchange ideas with them for working in the
path of conservation”.
