    New Server Build ProcedureGolden Image mksysb through NIM

    Prerequisites:

    o Gather hardware requirement from customer/project architect/project

    manager,

    o Gather OS and other information from customer by sending them

    "New Unix Server Doc Template.doc" document and having them fill it

    out as much as they can,

    o Request IP addresses from the DNS and IP Assignment Team through

    DMR request:

    o Primary IP

    o TSM IP

    o Service IP (HA cluster)

    o Any additional IPs (i.e. TSM server), and

    o Request cabling from the Facilities team if the required cables are not

    connected yet:

    o Primary cable

    o Secondary cable (ether channel purpose)

    o TSM cable

    o Heartbeat cable (HA cluster)

    o Any additional cables (i.e. TSM server).

    Server Build:

    o Connect to HMC using WebSM and carved up the LPAR if the server

    used is not a standalone system,

    Login as hscroot to the appropriate HMC

    Navigate through HMC to go to the appropriate frame

    Right click the partition to display the menu to create LPAR

    Provide a name for the partition then click Next

    Choose No on the following page

    Name your profile default then click Next

    Assign min, desired, and max memory. Min and desired should be thesame. Max should be twice the min. Click Next

    Choose shared if you want to microparition your LPAR. Dedicatedotherwise. Click Next.

    the same. Max should be twice the min. Click Next

    Assign IO. Each LPAR should have at least 1 SCSI bus controller, 2

    Ethernet adapters, and 2 fibre adapters. Make sure the Ethernetadapters and the fibre adapters are located in different IO drawers to

    ensure redundancy. Click Next

    Review your configuration and then click Finish

    o Configure the NIM server:

    o Add host and IP of the server in the host table (/etc/hosts),

    o Add the server object in NIM configuration: smitty nim_mkmac

    Assign name to the object. The name should be the server name

    Change the cable type, network speed, and network duplexsetting like the following

    o Assign the GI mksysb object, SPOT resource, and lpp_source to

    the server object: smitty nim_task_inst

    Choose Install the Base Operating System on Standalone Client

    Choose your server

    Choose mksysb Install from a mksysb

    Choose the correct golden image mksysb:

    o gito_mksysb_5300-06

    Choose the appropriate SPOT:

    Assign the LPP_SOURCE (5300-06L) and update the field forACCEPT new license agreement, PRESERVE NIM definitions for

    resources on this target, Initiate reboot and installation now,

    and the second ACCEPT new license agreement

    o Using the HMC console, boot the server to SMS menu,

    o Configure the network boot adapter and run the ping test

    Choose option 2 to setup remote IPL

    Choose the appropriate adapter to configure

    First configure the IP parameters by choosing option 1

    Fill out all the information. Use the appropriate IP for NIM server

    Go back to the network parameter menu and choose option 2. Then

    configure the speed (option 1) to auto-auto and disable spanning tree

    Go back to the network parameter menu and choose option 3 to test

    o Network boot the server and start the mksysb image deployment.

    Go back to main menu and choose option 5 to select boot option then

    select option 1 to select install/boot device

    Select option 6 to boot from network

    Select the appropriate adapter

    Select option 2 (normal mode boot)

    Select option 1 to exit system management services

    The packet count should start going up

    Once the packet count finishes, it will reboot from network

    Select 1 to use the terminal as a console

    Select 1 to use English during install

    Select option 2 to verify installation settings

    Select option 1 to verify disks

    Select 0 once you verify the disks to use

    Select 0 to proceed with the installation

    Watch as the installation progresses until completion

    Post GI Image Install:

    o NFS Mount /export/post_gi file system from the NIM server onto the

    new server: mount 172.16.223.31:/export/post_gi o Run and follow the instructions of all the scripts in /export/post_gi:

    o step_1_user_id.sh script,

    o step_2_password_reset.sh script,

    o step_3_banner.sh,

    o Follow the step-by-step procedure in step_4_others.txt file
