Basingstoke based Gordian Strapping has supplied 14 new RQ-8 Automatic Strapping Machines to Menzies Distribution at their Swansea branch. The new machines will replace the existing Strapack RQ-8 machines which have performed in excess of a million cycles each. Menzies Distribution is a newspaper and magazine wholesaler, delivering 7.4 million newspapers and magazines every day. Menzies delivers printed media to major corporations, airlines, train operators and cruise ships; and exports media to more than 40 countries on five continents. Geographically, Menzies serves almost two thirds of Great Britain (64%) - the biggest area covered by one wholesaler.
The RQ-8 was chosen for its robustness and reliability and is perfect for use in the distribution industry. Ready to operate in less than 25 seconds, it achieves speeds of up to 40 straps per minute. The machine has only a minimum amount of moving parts with permanently lubricated mechanisms, thus reducing wear and tear and increasing operational life.
The Self-Correcting Function is particularly helpful in the fast-paced distribution industry. If the machine is operated without a package on the table, the strap forms a small loop which is ejected from the sealing unit, thus leaving the machine ready for the next cycle. Other standard features include auto strap re-feed, variable strap tension (up to 80kg) and a self-diagnostic function. Finally, the Auto Shut-Off function ensures that the machine enters standby mode after 3 minutes thereby saving energy.
