The FIU MBRS RISE Program provides graduate and undergraduate students compensation for a yearlong work obligation in a laboratory conducting biomedical research. Sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the MBRS RISE Program is dedicated to increasing the number of undergraduate and graduate students from underrepre- sented groups in biomedical and behavioral research to enter into and successfully complete M.D./Ph.D. or Ph.D. programs. Research travel funds are available for the MBRS RISE students to attend scientific meetings and conferences. The program also provides a tuition-waiver for graduate students. Other training includes: special skills & professional development workshops as well as academic advisement. Undergraduate students may apply during their freshman, sophomore or junior years for participation in the program from the time of acceptance through their senior year. Graduate students may apply at any point during their FIU graduate program.
