WELCOME TO BSR!! Welcome to your life on residence: A unique opportunity to immerse your-self in the Deakin experience. Deakin Residential Services’ mission is to provide outstanding student ac-commodation premises, services and support to Deakin students. This mis-sion directly influences your experience living on campus and the excellent quality of accommodation and services we provide. We have also released our RESPECT residential values this year, that rely on all residential community members being “proactive and responsive to the needs of individuals, encouraging and tolerant of differences, and nurture a connected, safe, enjoyable and above all respectful community.” Leaving home is an important step in a person’s life and moving into Univer-sity residential accommodation can be a very rewarding experience but not without some unique challenges. It is a time of personal transition adjusting to university studies and lifestyle, as well as becoming a member of a residential community. Living in resi-dences is one of the best ways of getting the most out of your time at univer-sity. You will have the opportunity to make lifelong friends in an environment that can also help you achieve academically and fulfil your potential. We consider residential life as integral to your university education, extend-ing and enriching your study experience and our intention is to provide you with a vibrant living and learning experience. As a student of Deakin University and resident of Deakin Residential Ser-vices, you are considered to be an adult and you are expected to be inde-pendent and responsible in your thinking and action. As such it is important that you understand your responsibilities and obliga-tions as a member of the University community and that you take advantage of the range of programs and services offered within residences and across the University. In your first few days on campus it is important that you meet the residential staff and student leaders who are available to provide advice and assist you to settle in to university and residential life. Please take the time to get to know these people and how to contact them. We sincerely hope you enjoy your studies at Deakin, and your time living here with Deakin Residential Services offering you new life experiences and wonderful opportunities for your future. Best wishes, John Colley General Manager – Melbourne Campus
