Spraying Systems Co., Wheaton, IL, says its Automatic Brush Shower eliminatesdowntime for cleaning clogged nozzles in shower headers. At the push of a button,an internal rotating brush assembly scrubs the interior wall of the shower as wellas each disc-type shower nozzle orifice.

Debris is swept away through the flush-outvalve in seconds, says the company, restoringfull liquid flow to the system without contami-nating the sprayed surface.

There is no need to stop the system. Thebrushes operate without disruption to normal

processes. An optional timer is available forcompletely automated cleaning.

In addition, a retrofit motor and control unitkit is available for manual handwheel brushshowers. The retrofit kit also allows activationof the shower cleaning cycle at the push of abutton, and gives the option of a timing controlfor complete automation of the cleaningprocess. Simply remove the handwheel fromthe existing brush shower and install the SmartMotor. Easy to install, the retrofit eliminatesthe need to have workers climbing machines torotate the handwheels. CASE STUDY

Green Liquor Line CleaningFrom Assistant Superintedent

G-P Containerboard Mill.

Problem: Restricted flows to recovery boilers.Options: Limited choices for line cleaning were acid cleaning, hydro

blasting or replacing lines. The mill was extreme-

ly concerned with acidcleaning. The lines wereover 1,000 ft. long andthe mill was fearful ofreleasing large amountsof calcium carbonatescale and plugging thelines on startup.Replacement of the lineshad been priced at over$1 million dollars.

Solution: The millcontacted Euro AquaDrill who have equip-ment that allows them tocontrol feed rate and

rotational rate of a 15,000 psi nozzle, effectively milling the interior ofthe line. They showed in work in other industries they can clean rock-like bauxite buildup outof lines and another spe-cialty is cleaning newpower boiler/turbinelines for assured cleanline startups.

The mill chose them toclean our lines and start-ed on the #2 RecoveryBoiler set. The processwas extremely successful.“Our lines are over 1,000feet long and we werefearful of plugging thelines that had 1.5” ofscale with effective line availability of 5”. After cleaning we had 8” linesthat looked almost new. Restricted flows went from approximately 400gallons to unrestricted flows of near 1,000 gpm on each line. Each linetook about 45 hours to clean at a cost of approximately $50,000. The millwill save $350,000 per set over replacement.” PIAqua Drill International, [email protected]

Many mills spend $millions oninstalling correct piping and tube bun-dles for optimum flow control. Yetmany of the same mills loose millionsin production due to low flow; extraenergy costs due to higher pumpingcosts; and lost heat transfer due toinneffective chemical and/or waterblaster pipe and tube cleaning systems.

Aqua Drill International (ADI) has

developed and used an extremely safeand effective cleaning process that canachieve 100% removal of materialbuild up - even into the pores of themetal. ADI has a fast and effective wayto clean tubes as small as 3/8" I.D. andpipe from 3/4" I.D. to 60" making a 90degree turns after 3" I.D.

The system is capable of makingmutable 90, 45 and 180 degree turnsalong with long runs reducing theamount of openings needed to cleanpiping systems which also results ingreatly reduced costs.

Customer comments include:– From a papermill in Georgia –

“We're doing well on line. Getting 800-900 GPM flow at will where we wereonly getting 400”.

– From a paper mill in Pennsylvania“supervision is very pleased with theresults from line cleaning....We feel theline is probably cleaner than it wouldhave been if we would have acid cleaned.”

– From a major refinery inLouisiana: “I did not believe therewould be any difference between you

and and any other hydro blaster until Isaw the results of your process. That isthe hardest thing you will have to con-vince yopur customers of.”

– From a paper mill in Washington:“Aqua Drill was clearly one of the bestsuccess stories of our entire annualshutdown – and I would like to extend

our thanks and gratitude for cleaningpiping that would have cost up to tentimes what it cost for your system toclean. No other hydro blast companywe have seen has come remotely closeto your process with respect tosafety, productivity and effectiveness.”

ADI has cleaned everything fromfiberglass to steel and concrete lines.Plus we have removed build-up ongreen, black and white liquor pipes,cal-cium carbonate, process sewer build upand more from a wide variuety of pipeand tubing systems.

Safety is also an issue and ADI hasthe safest system available today. Thereneed be no one at the entry point whenwe are running and there are no chem-icals to take care of from “cradle tograve”. PIAqua Drill International,[email protected] 877-818-7032

Case histories ofOsprey™ design fromCVN SystemsOur product design was used in:

1. A large US paper mill treated 1700gpm (6435 l/min) of filtrate from a discfilter carrying 60 ppm (.006% byweight) sand, grit and fines. Particlesgreater than 140 micron, (0.14mm),(.0055”) were separated and removedas the filtrate was used for showerwater.

2. A tissue mill, reduced fresh water con-sumption by cleaning white water,2000 l / min, (528gpm) with 100 ppm(0.01% by weight) fibers. All fibersand particles greater than 140 micron(0.14mm), (.0055”) diameter were sep-arated and removed. The filtrate waterwas used for high pressure sprays onwires and felts.

3. A Swedish paper mill cleaned 5000l/min (1321gpm) of fibers greater than100 micron (.004”) diameter for wiresprays and vacuum pump seal water.

4. An English paper mill cleaned 1900l/min (502gpm) of waste paper pig-ments larger than 100 micron(0.10mm), (0.004”) diameter. The fil-trate was used for wire showers.

5. A Philippines printing and writingpaper mill cleaned 3500 l/min(924gpm) filtrate from a DAF unit.Particles greater than 100 micron(0.10mm), (0.004”) diameter wererejected. The filtrate was used forpaper machine nozzles of 1.0 mm(0.039”) diameter.

FLUORO-WEAR 102 HIGHTEMPERATURE ROLL COVERS

Teflon® roll covers have been usedby the paper industry for 35 years. ButFluoro-Wear™ is the first reinforcedTeflon® roll cover product. Originalwear testing indicated four timesgreater abrasion resistance than unre-inforced Teflon® FEP. Recent thick-ness measurements taken on a rollcover in service indicate a “Fluoro-Wear™ roll cover is lasting more than10 times longer. The reinforced Teflon® has greater strength at high-er temperatures (suggested service limit is 400°F). However, onebowed roll cover operating at the end of an infra-red oven can copewith temperatures of 500-550°F without damage. The roll coversreinforced with carbon are static dissipative eliminating static.

THE ACROWOODDIAMONDROLLSAND SEPARATORThe DiamondRoll™ Sand SeparationSystem takes particle segregation tothe next level, separating face andcore fractions for particleboard and removing contaminants fromrecycled wood processes. TheDiamondRoll’s system of patented

roll textures and Variable InterRoll Openings is employed. Finewood particles, dust, and very fine grit pass to the screen below, while sand, larger wood particles and contaminants are cleaned inan Air Density Separator. A second air system removes foil andplastics in an overhead collection hood, and drops larger rocks outbelow. In this one-pass system of screens and air cleaners, recycledor urban wood sources can be cleaned and prepared for particle-board or MDF processes.
