AUGUST 24th CURRICULUM DAY The next Pupil Free CURRICULUM DAY is scheduled for tomor- row - Friday 25 th August – no students are required at school. The teachers will be busy undertaking their Level 2 First Aid training, CPR, etc. PARENT OPINION SURVEY Last week, 75 parents were randomly selected to participate in the Parent Opinion Survey. To date, only 25 of the 75 have responded to the survey which means we would be unable to use the results to inform school council or implement any suggested improvements. I urge those parents who were selected to please complete the online survey as soon as possible. BUILDING UPGRADE We had a visit last week from the K20 Architects who informed me of the successful tender company for our upgrade. This week, that recommendation will be signed off by central office and I can advise you next week of the company selected. I ex- pect the builders to be onsite before the end of this term. The tender came in under budget and with the completion timeline of 30 weeks. We are looking forward to a completion date of mid 2018 which is very exciting after two years of planning! We are also currently getting a quote to level and lay synthetic turf all over our oval. Very exciting times ahead for The Basin Primary School. WAKAKIRRI Yesterday we had 86 students compete in the Wakakirri compe- tition in Frankston. Two rehearsals during the day was followed by the big evening performance which concluded at 9:00pm. Five schools performed their dance story and now we wait until all heats are concluded before schools are selected for the final – fingers crossed! At the conclusion of the night The Basin were presented with awards, best T-shirt Design, best Public Speak- ers, best Team Work and Most Sustainable Item. Mr Hartley and Mrs MacLean spent hours formulating the story, making the amazing costumes and choreographing the dance with the students rehearsing over many hours. Our students were just AMAZING! All the parents, grandparents, brothers and sis- ters and staff members who attended were extremely proud of our Wakakirri team. I would like to acknowledge our amazing dance team of students, Colin Hartley, Lisa MacLean and their incredible band of parent and staff helpers. A real team effort! WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN Our school is participating in this program and we would really appreciate your support by collecting the tokens if you or other family members, shop at Woolworths. The office has set up a box, or your child can give the tokens to their teacher. Last time we participated in this program, we received valuable science and maths equipment, which was a huge bonus for our school. PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2018 Just a reminder that if you have a younger sibling ready to start school next year now is the time to drop the enrolment information into the office as preparations are being con-firmed for the term 4 transition sessions. Please do this even if you are unsure your little one is ready to start preps so a place is secured. We need to confirm 2018 Prep enrol-ments from our current families and we would appreciate your immediate support in this matter, as interest in our school is once again high! SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS Effective partnerships in our school community are essential to providing the necessary sup-port and structures to creating safe, engaging and positive learning environments for our students. The school honours this commitment by providing a range of communication channels, oppor-tunities for active and meaningful participation and respectful consultation. There are times when questions need answers and concerns need to be raised, and as a school, we strongly encourage our families to do so, using the appropriate channels of communica-tion. All concerns should be addressed with your child’s class teacher in the first in-stance. The Principal Team welcome a conversation should you feel this step is necessary with a view to resolve any particular issue within the school. We consider it important to work together, always in the best interests of our students, school and community, and thank you for your continuous support. Graeme Russell
