WELCOME to the 2013 YMCA One-Day Adult Bus Trip season. Our core values are caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We provide programming and an atmosphere that reflects these values and our mission. The Y’s objective in offering these trips is to provide an enriching, enjoyable, educational and fun experience for our participants.

Trips are developed by the Adult Department at the Appleton branch for the enjoyment of YMCA of the Fox Cities members, as well as, the general public. The two-tiered pricing reflects that general members will pay a slightly higher cost for most trips.

Transportation for these excursions (unless otherwise noted) is deluxe motorcoach, with plush seats, overhead storage, temperature controls and a bathroom. It’s a great way to get out and see the sights and an eco-friendly way to travel.

Go “green”. Did you know that a motorcoach has the lowest CO2 emission per passenger and higher fuel efficiency per passenger than hybrid cars and other private automobiles? So you can sit back in the safest form of surface transportation, relax, enjoy the ride, let someone else be concerned with the traffic, the parking and the details, and help minimize the impact on our environment and on the planet. Trips are designed for a wide range of interests, ages, activity and mobility levels. Read the trip description to gauge the mobility range necessary. With a few noted exceptions, anyone age 18 and older can participate.

REGISTRATIONA paid registration is necessary to secure a seat for any trip. Trips may fill quickly, so register early. When you register, please confirm that the Y has your current address and contact information.

How to register:• In person at any of the YMCA of the Fox Cities branches with cash, check or credit card.

• With a credit card by calling the Appleton YMCA at 920.739.6135

• Online anytime at www.ymcafoxcities.org (the session code is 13ST and the trip codes are noted for each trip) with a credit card (VISA, MC, Discover). Please use the add-on function for pick-up location or meal choice where applicable.

• When you register, please confirm that the Y has your current address and contact information.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions Participants must be 18 years of age or older to register, or, for some trips, must be registered and accompanied by a paid adult participant who is 21 years of age or older and legally responsible for them.

Each trip description includes a cost for Y members and another for non-member individuals, i.e., the general public and notes what is included for that fee.

Several days before your trip, you will receive a letter that will include specific trip-related information and any itinerary updates. Read this letter so you have the current information. If you’ve registered for a trip, but have not received a letter within 3 days before any scheduled trip, please call the Appleton YMCA. It’s possible that your information in the database is inaccurate. The Y requires a liability release from each participant. We call these Informed Consents and they are generally mailed along with your final confirmation letter.

If a trip is full, you may have your name added to a waiting list at no charge. If a seat becomes available, persons on the waiting list may be contacted and offered that newly available seat. Payment is due upon acceptance of the opening.

Have you heard that there is no such thing as bad weather? There might be inappropriate clothing, rain or snow, but weather is simply weather. Our trips go in all weather conditions.

The Y charters transportation for these trips from local commercial providers.

Limited financial assistance is available for Y members on a limited basis for many Y trips. Contact the Adult Department at the Appleton YMCA for more information at 920.954.7610.

If you still have questions unanswered by the information in this publication, please contact the Appleton YMCA Membership Desk at 920.739.6135, the Adult Department at 920.954.7610, [email protected] or [email protected].

CHARTER FISHING • LAKE MICHIGAN..………….WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19 Please register no later than June 1 for the best chance to have a spot on this trip. Space is limited. We’re heading to Lake Michigan for some salmon, steelhead and whatever-else-is-biting-that-day fishing. Embark on your fishing adventure on professionally equipped charter boats with experienced captain and crew, inspected and licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard out of the port of Algoma. Algoma is the #1 port for trophy salmon and steelhead catches according to DNR records. Captain says that the fishing should be excellent on this date. All fishing equipment is provided and all catch is cleaned and packed in your cooler. You’ll bring a cooler partially filled with ice (for your fish), warm (lake weather appropriate) clothing, rain gear, personal snacks and refreshments, soft-soled shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, a camera or video and a valid Wisconsin Fishing License with Great Lakes trout and salmon stamp. If this is a one-time fishing occasion for you, purchase the two-day license that includes the special stamp. We’ll be on the lake for a 5-hour charter in the afternoon. Let’s see who catches the most lunkers! Since fishing can be such hard work when one catches so many fish, there will be a Dutch treat supper stop before returning home. Transportation for this trip is a professionally-driven school bus. Cost: $141 or $157 Includes school bus transportation and fishing charter. Leave Heart of the Valley YMCA at 10:15 AM and Return around 7:30 PM. APYFishingW619

TRAILS & WATERFALLS……………………………….WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11What better way to remember our patriots than by celebrating outdoors and inhaling the free fresh air of our beautiful state. Experience the simple pleasures of this very popular late summer excursion. Discover the beauty of the “waterfalls capital of Wisconsin”. Relish a mid-September day outdoors after the crowds have disappeared but before the cooler weather arrives. Your deluxe coach will transport you north into Marinette County to scenic northern river areas where waterfalls abound. You’ll visit several different waterfall sites and parks in the county on the Pike River (declared a “wild river” by the federal government) where brook and brown trout are abundant. There’s space in the bus for your fishing gear if you’d like to try your luck. Enjoy your box lunch in the relaxing beauty of the north woods to the sounds of gurgling streams and falling water. Sturdy tennies or hiking shoes are suggested. The hikes are not necessarily long, but some of the trails to the falls cover some rough terrain, rock formations, steps and uneven ground. You have some choice in the degree of difficulty of where you go. You may opt to stay near the bus just to enjoy the glories and serenity of the forests. Ice cream, fudge and antique shop stop in the afternoon. Cost: $49 or $54 Includes transportation and box lunch. Leave Heart of the Valley YMCA at 8:00 AM and Return 7:00 PM APYTrailsFallsW911

From the Fox Cities, we’ll head off to either the Madison or the Milwaukee areas sampling culinary products from a variety of establishments throughout the day. Details are incomplete at press time. However, mark the date on your calendar for what sure to be a fun, taste bud-tickling time on this fall excursion. In 2012 we sampled our way through extraordinary chocolates, breakfast quiches, vinegars, oils, liquors, chili, pies and an assortment of distilled spirits. It was a very fun and enjoyable day. Count on something similar for this year; we may even repeat it in 2013. Watch for details in August. Leave from the Heart of the Valley YMCA. Cost is TBD. Plan for $85-95. APYTastesW116

MISSISSIPPI MIGRATION CRUISE …………………..THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21 Travel across Wisconsin then head south along the Great River Road National Scenic Byway where you are in for a special seasonal experience. Destination is the port of Lansing from which your floating observation deck will embark. You will spend an afternoon on the mighty Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. During the 3-hours on the Mighty Muddy, you’ll be on a stable vessel that is capable of navigating areas of the river that are inaccessible to other commercial vessels. This is prime Upper Mississippi Flyway Fall migration time, so we hope to see hundreds of migrating waterfowl like pelicans, ducks, geese, tundra swans as well as bald eagles and perhaps minks, otters and other wildlife. The Captain (U.S. Coast Guard certified) and the naturalist on board share information about the working aspects of the river and its history as well as educate you on the facts of the migration. These gentlemen are experts in their fields and bring much knowledge to the tour. The boat is a heated pontoon cruiser, single deck and enclosed to offer weather protection with onboard restrooms and comfortable seating. We invite you to pack and bring your own lunch as well as bring your camera and binoculars. Do dress appropriately for anticipated weather conditions on this November day. Cost: $107 or $117 Includes transportation and cruise. Supper is Dutch treat at a reasonably priced eatery along the road back to the Fox Cities. Tentative times: Leave Appleton YMCA at 7:00 AM and Return 9:30 PM APYMigrationR1121
