The Incarnation Word 1 October 2020 Living Evangelism Webinar October 5 Daily Prompts begin October 6 Evangelism isnt just street preaching – its living a life in which we see, name, and celebrate where God is working in our lives and the lives of those around us. Gandhi described this as the evangelism of the rose. The rose, he said, doesnt have to preach. It simply spreads its fragrance and allows people to respond as they like. Now, as so many are turning to anxiety and distrust, living evangelism offers a dif- ferent view of the world, one that instead sees God alive and active. This way of living can become second nature with practice. To that end, Bishop Waldos staff have put together a program for us. We will begin at 12:30pm on October 5, 2020, with a key- note webinar by the Rev. Dr. Tricia Lyons, Senior Advisor to the Dean for Evangelism Initiatives at Virginia Theological Seminary. The webinar will be replayed at 7pm that evening on the Episcopal Diocese of Up- per SC Facebook page for those unable to attend live. To register for the webinar, go to this page on the Diocesan web site: https://www.edusc.org/livingevangelism/ and click on the register for the webinarbutton. Each day after that (through November 5), watch the Diocesan Facebook page for a prompt urging you to try one small new habit each day. By the time of Diocesan Convention in November, well all be evan- gelists!

Living Evangelism Webinar October 5 Daily Prompts begin October 6

Evangelism isn’t just street preaching – it’s living a life in which we see, name, and celebrate where God is working in our lives and the lives of those around us. Gandhi described this as the evangelism of the rose. The rose, he said, doesn’t have to preach. It simply spreads its fragrance and allows people to respond as they like. Now, as so many are turning to anxiety and distrust, living evangelism offers a dif-ferent view of the world, one that instead sees God alive and active. This way of living can become second nature with practice. To that end, Bishop Waldo’s staff have put

together a program for us. We will begin at 12:30pm on October 5, 2020, with a key-note webinar by the Rev. Dr. Tricia Lyons, Senior Advisor to the Dean for Evangelism Initiatives at Virginia Theological Seminary. The webinar will be replayed at 7pm that evening on the Episcopal Diocese of Up-per SC Facebook page for those unable to attend live. Incarnation Academy The Academy is in full swing! Each day we welcome students for their virtual learn-ing and at-home lessons. Now that we’ve worked out the kinks, we’re ready to share leadership of this amazing ministry. Would you like to serve as proctor for our stu-dents? The school day lasts from 8am to about 2pm. Proctors will be responsible for morning temperature checks and hand-washings, twice daily air flushes, and as-sisting our students with whatever needs they may have. You’re welcome to bring your own computer, a book to read, or whatever you’d like to work on while the students are happily learning. To volun-teer, email Jenny+.

Bread from Heaven Saturday, October 17 8:30 - 10:30 We’ll continue with our contact-free food distribution this month.

If you feel it’s safe for you to do so, we’d love your help. To volunteer, email Scott. Volunteers will work in masks at all times. You can volunteer to: • Pack a bag of food per shopper some

time the week of October 12. • Take appointments at 8:00 Thursday,

October 15. • Serve on the 8:30-9:30 crew on Satur-

day, October 17, bringing bags out so shoppers can load them

    • Serve on the 9:30-10:30 crew on Sat-urday, October 17, bringing bags out so shoppers can load them

Want to donate food or funds? Feel free

to drop items by the church office. You can leave them at the door (just let Jenny+ know they’re there) without coming into contact with anyone! While we aren’t re-ceiving food from Hunters for the Hungry, we particularly need protein (canned fish or meat, eggs, and any other meat). With so many food pantries closed due to Covid-19, our shoppers tell us the need is great-er than ever.

Great news! During this strange time, Incarnation has figured out new ways to be the church. Well, our efforts have been noticed by di-ocesan staff. Pictures of Bread from Heaven, Incarnation Academy, and our banner and yard signs have been featured on the diocesan Facebook Page and web

site. And we were the first church inter-viewed for an up-coming diocesan pod-cast on new ways to be the church during a pandemic. Watch our Facebook page for a link to the podcast when it’s available.

    The Incarnation Word 6

    Thank You

On March 15 (28 weeks ago), we had our final “regular” wor-ship service and moved to virtual worship. We had no idea how long the moratorium on indoor worship would last. We knew the lean summer months were coming, the time every year when we have to dip into our savings just to pay the bills. We could-n’t imagine that people would keep up with their pledges when they weren’t physically coming to church. But you showed us the true heart of Incar-nation, that our pledges aren't just pay-ments in exchange for services rendered. Our faith is deeper than that. At Incarna-tion, our pledges are sacred promises we make to God to give back in response to His overwhelming generosity to us. And that spirit of giving hasn’t wavered one bit - in fact, this is the first summer I can recall that we never once turned to savings to make ends meet! You have made sure that we not only survived the pandemic, but thrived during it. So this year, you won’t hear any talks tell-ing you why others give or urging you to dig deeper, to trust God more. Because you already get it. We’re simply going to say, “Thank you.” Thank you for loving God and Incarnation. Thank you for react-ing to our frightening reality not by clench-
