June, Month of the Sacred Heart—Reflections by Monique Sammut
A religious sister once told me, “Many people think they cannot see God’s love. But look!” She pulled out a holy card of
the Sacred Heart of Jesus and pointed at the flame surrounding Jesus’ Heart. She continued, “We can see how much
God loves us because His Heart is on fire. It is burning with love!”
June is the month dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. When Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary, He told her
“Behold this Heart which has so loved men that it has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consum-
ing itself in order to testify to its love.” Jesus knows that we are physical creatures and that is why He gives us
tangible ways to experience His Love—the greatest of which is the Eucharist. We can see the Heart and Love of Jesus
more clearly in the Eucharist than in the most beautiful painting. However, instead of returning God’s love, we let our
busy lives, our sins, and many other aspects of our lives separate us from Love itself.
Jesus revealed to St. Margaret Mary the First Friday Devotion as a way for us to make reparation to His Sacred Heart.
We can turn to Jesus with love and gratitude in other simple ways, such as by offering our sufferings as reparation to
His Heart. Throughout the day, we can also pray simple aspirations to the Sacred Heart including: : “Most Sacred Heart
of Jesus, I implore that I may ever love Thee more and more;” “Jesus meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like
unto Thine;” and “Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, be my love”.
This month of June is a special time for us to remember the great Love Jesus has for each one of us. He died to save us
and if He did not think of us and love us, we would not exist. May we all recall, contemplate, and reflect on God’s love
for us and find ways within our power to love Him in return.
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Choir Changes
It is with sadness that we announce that Rose
McGrath, who has been our organist and choir
director for the past 2 years, will be leaving us at
the end of June. Rose is preparing for marriage
and will be moving out of the area. Rose has
done a truly exceptional job as the organist and
choir director, and we thank her for all her hard
work over these past 2 years.
With joy, we also announce that at the beginning
of July, Luke Ponce will begin as the new organ-
ist and choir director. Luke is a recent graduate
from the Franciscan University of Steubenville.
We welcome Luke to our parish and look forward
to his work with us.
