Last gameThu., Oct. 21;  New Jersey 3 at Montreal 0     The Devils faced the Canadiens for the first time, marking the second of three straight outings vs. the Northeast Division.  Thedecision gave the club a 2-0-0 mark in its last two road outings (both wins by ShO), while snapping a two-game losing streak.  Montrealout shot New Jersey 29-20 overall.     Devils’ goaltender Martin Brodeur made his 60th start vs. Montreal – his most vs. any Northeast team – and stopped all 29 shotshe faced for his second shutout of the season/112th career.  The team extended its shutout streak on the road to 130:26 (last goal, Oct.21 at Wsh.).  Zach Parise (GW), Jason Arnott, and Matt Taormina scored the club’s goals.  Arnott’s tally was his 100th with NewJersey.  He added an assist for his first multiple-point game of the season.  Dainius Zubrus posted two assists for his first multi-pointeffort.     Devils’ defenseman Olivier Magnan made his NHL debut after being recalled from Albany (AHL) three days earlier.  He was born innearby Sherbrooke, Que. Injuries     For the Devils, defenseman Mark Fraser (fractured right hand, suffered Oct. 13 at Buf., 3 gms missed) had a pin inserted Oct. 14and is out four-six weeks.  Left wing Brian Rolston (sports hernia, Oct. 9 at Wsh., 5 gms) underwent surgery Oct. 14 and is also outfour-six weeks.  He was placed on the club’s Long Term Injured Reserve List.  Defenseman Anton Volchenkov (stiff neck, sufferedOct. 9 at Wsh., 5 gms) is out on a day-to-day basis.  Defenseman Bryce Salvador (concussion, 7 reg.-season & 2 pre-seas. gmsmissed) is also on the L.T.I.R. List.  Defenseman Anssi Salmela (knee, 7 reg.-season & 6 pre-season gms) has been designated as aninjured, non-roster player.  Total regular-season man games lost to injury/illness:  27. Player moves     On Monday, New Jersey recalled defenseman Olivier Magnan from Albany (AHL), while assigning defenseman Alexander Urbomto Albany.  On Oct. 14, defenseman Matthew Corrente and centers Jacob Josefson and Tim Sestito were recalled from Albany.  OnOct. 12, center Adam Mair was signed to a contract. He attended training camp on a tryout basis.  Also Oct. 12, left wing Pierre-LucLetourneau-Leblond cleared waivers and was assigned to Albany.  On Oct. 8, defenseman Matt Taormina was recalled from Albany,while center Adam Henrique was assigned to Albany.  On Oct. 6, Taormina was assigned to Albany, while Henrique was recalled. OnOct. 5, defenseman Rob Davison cleared waivers and was assigned to Albany. Coming into tonight     The Devils enter tonight’s game following a 3-0 win Thursday evening at Montreal.  Thursday’s decision gave the club consecutiveroad victories/shutouts, while snapping a two-game losing streak. Tonight, New Jersey is looking to halt an 0-3-1 trend here atPrudential Center.     The Devils completed the 2009-10 regular-season with a 48-27-7=103pt (.628) record.  The club clinched its ninth Atlantic DivisionChampionship April 10, while reaching the 100-point mark for the 12th time over the last 15 full seasons with a 7-1 win vs. NYIslanders.  New Jersey was awarded the no. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference following a 2-1 victory in the season-finale April 11 vs.Buffalo.     The Devils were in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 13th consecutive year, the second longest current stretch in the NHL (Det., 19). The club participated in post-season play for the 19th time in the past 20 seasons, and the 20th time overall.  New Jersey clinched aplayoff berth with a 4-2 win March 27 at Montreal.     The Devils posted their 18th straight .500-plus season.  The club’s current stretch is the longest in the league, and is the third-longest in NHL history (Mtl., 32, '51-52 to '82-93; and Bos., 29, '67-68 to '95-96).  It is also the longest current streak among the fourmajor sports.  New Jersey assured itself of a .500-plus mark with a 5-2 win March 17 vs. Pittsburgh.     The Devils tied a league record with their 13th consecutive 40-win campaign (’96-97 to ’09-10).  New Jersey picked up its 40thvictory with a 3-1 victory March 12 vs. Pittsburgh to tie an NHL record. Montreal held the league mark (‘70-71 to ‘82-83).     For the Devils, tonight’s contest closes its mini three-game set against the Northeast Division.  This evening’s match also opens theclub’s third of 20 sets of back-to-back games (Sun. at NYR, 7:00 PM, MSG Plus, SportsRadio 66 WFAN).  The team is 0-1-1 in firstgames, and 0-2-0 in second games when playing on consecutive dates.  New Jersey will return to Prudential Center following itsseason-high six-game road trip Friday, November 5 vs. NY Rangers (7:00 PM, MSG Plus, WFAN).  Season's series     Tonight's game between the Devils and Sabres marks the second of four meetings between the two teams this season, and the firstof two matches to be played here at Prudential Center.     New Jersey leads the season's series 1-0-0, following a 1-0 overtime win October 13, outshooting Buffalo 35-24.  Ilya Kovalchukscored for the Devils, while Matt Taormina and Jamie Langenbrunner recorded the assists. Derek Roy and Drew Stafford had fourshots each to lead the Sabres. Martin Brodeur (1-0-0, 1 ShO, 1.000 save % & 0.00 GAA) picked up the victory in goal for New Jersey,while Ryan Miller (0-0-1, .971 save % & 0.99 GAA) was in goal for Buffalo.  Patrik Elias (7g-22a) needs one point to tie JohnMacLean’s (17g-13a) franchise record of 30 in the series.     The Devils lead the all-time series 45-38-15, including a 24-19-6 mark in their previous 49 home games.  They are 2-0-0 in their lasttwo games (last loss, 2-1, SO, Jan. 27, ‘10).

     The remainder of the series is as follows:  Nov. 10 at NJ;  Mar. 26 at Buf. Openers     The Devils’ 4-3 overtime loss October 8 vs, Dallas gave the club a 17-6-5 mark all-time in season-openers (0-1-1 in last 2).  The clubis also now 16-7-5 in home-opening games.  New Jersey’s 7-2 loss October 9 at Washington gave the team a 12-13-3 record all-time inroad-openers.     Training camp     Devils’ training camp got underway Friday, September 17 at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.  Sixty-two players were in NewJersey’s camp, including eight goaltenders, 19 defensemen and 35 forwards. New faces     Among the Devils’ new faces are:  goaltender Johan Hedberg (f.a., 7/1);  defensemen Olivier Magnan ('06 draft), Henrik Tallinder(f.a., 7/1), Matt Taormina (f.a., 2/25/10), and Anton Volchenkov (f.a., 7/1);  and forwards Jason Arnott (re-acquired, 6/19 trade),Jacob Josefson (’09 draft), and Adam Mair (f.a., 10/12). What’s new in 2010-11     Former Devils’ right wing John MacLean, the team’s all-time leading scorer from December 28, 1993 through March 17, 2009, waspromoted to head coach on June 17, 2010.  He becomes the club’s first-ever former player to coach the team.     MacLean’s staff includes Larry Robinson, who is in his fifth stint as an assistant coach, Adam Oates, and Chris Terreri.     Center Jason Arnott was re-acquired June 19, 2010 in a trade with Nashville. He became the 19th player to be re-acquired andplay for New Jersey.     Defenseman Matthew Corrente, who wore no. 32 in the past is now wearing no. 22. Center Jacob Josefson who wore no. 56 intraining camp, is no. 16, while defenseman Olivier Magnan is no. 29, after wearing no. 36 in camp. Milestones reached     On Oct. 8 vs. Dallas, Devils’ center Jason Arnott appeared in his 1,100th career NHL game. On Oct. 21 at Montreal, he reachedthe 100-goal mark with New Jersey.     Defenseman Colin White needs one assist for 100 in his career. Hockey Fights Cancer     Tonight is Hockey Fights Cancer Night.  Prior to this evening's game, Devils' Vice Chairman Mike Gilfillan will present a $10,000check to the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Foundation for use towards cancer-related research.  Dr. John Brennan, the center'sexecutive director, will accept the check. Off-ice happeningsApr. 26.....Devils’ Head Coach Jacques Lemaire announced his retirement. He completed his coaching career as the team’s all-timeleader with 460 regular-season games coached and 247 victories. June 10.....New Jersey announced that they will shift the operations of their top development team to Albany, NY, after spending thepast four seasons in Lowell, MA.  The AHL team will be known as the Albany Devils and play at Times Union Center. June 17.....The Devils promoted John MacLean to the position of head coach.  He becomes the team's first former player ever namedto the position.  Larry Robinson was named assistant coach. June 29.....New Jersey completed its coaching staff by naming Adam Oates assistant coach. July 1.....The Devils signed free agent defensemen Henrik Tallinder and Anton Volchenkov to multi-year contracts; while alsosigning veteran goaltender Johan Hedberg to a contract. Aug. 10.....New Jersey set its development coaching staffs, by promoting Rick Kowalsky to head coach of the AHL’s Albany Devils,and naming Kevin Dean head coach of the ECHL’s Trenton Devils. Additionally, Tommy Albelin will serve as an assistant coach withAlbany, while Vince Williams will remain an assistant with Trenton.
