Lumascape d5 series LED drivers offer exceptional control and
protection for the LEDs they power and form a core part of
Lumascape LED engineering philosophy. At the heart of this
philosophy are the concepts of simplicity and durability: Ease of
installation and connection and a long, trouble free life. The d5
LED driver goes beyond simplicity and durability to also deliver
exceptional control and LED protection features.
Being so compact, the d5 driver fits inside any luminaire. It
provides protection to the LEDs by sensing operating temperatures
on the LED board and in the driver itself, shutting down the power
to the LEDs if a high temperature condition is detected and
auto-restarting when it is safe to do so. The d5 driver series also
has the ability to dim via analog (0-10 V) and digital signals
(PWM). The brightness of a luminaire containing a d5 driver can
also be set without any external controls. The brightness can be
set in 10% increments simply by switching the luminaire on/off in a
pre-defined pattern. There is no need to open the luminaire or set
DIP switches. All luminaires containing a d5 driver on the same
circuit can be programmed at once. Alternatively, the factory can
pre-program the brightness.
Regardless of the method, the LEDs are dimmed on a 14- bit PWM
resolution providing exceptional control and the capability to dim
to 2% with no color shift or flicker.
The inclusion of d5 driver technology also means the luminaire may
qualify for the Lumascape 3-year LED and driver warranty. For

Copper alloy, or 'brass', is a material used in the manufacture of
several Lumascape luminaires.
Like copper, brass has great thermal performance but is
structurally stronger. Lumascape prefers the use of brass over
bronze due to its superior thermal conductivity.
Lumascape luminaires made from brass are also highly corrosion
resistant, making them suitable for use in most outdoor
applications.
Lumascape’s corrosion resistant, marine grade aluminum luminaires
are firstly acid etched to remove surface contaminants to ensure
maximum coating adhesion. The etched luminaires then undergo a
chromate conversion process to alter the surface structure of the
aluminum and provide a keyed surface to further enhance the powder
coating adhesion. Most of Lumascape’s range of cast aluminum
luminaires are given an epoxy undercoat which is a sealing
waterproof layer providing high corrosion resistance.
Lumascape’s powder coat is an architectural grade formula, selected
specifically for its durability in harsh, coastal
environments.
1. Castings are inspected and mechanically dressed to remove any
surface inclusions.
2. Vibratory finish to round edges for better paint coverage at the
corners and to remove potential corrosion “lead ins”.
3. Acid etching removes dirt, dust and oil while providing
additional surface keying.
4. Rinse using dual tank de-ionised water to ensure all etch
chemical is removed.
5. Pre-treatment of the metal using a chrome-free conversion
coating provides additional corrosion resistance and powder coat
adhesion.
6. Rinse using de-ionised water.
7. Controlled oven dry ensures proper retention of the conversion
coating and ensures parts are fully dry prior to application of
powder.
8. Epoxy undercoat, approx. 40 microns (1.5 mil) thick with
controlled cure to ensure good top coat bond. Epoxy provides an
excellent, non-hygroscopic barrier.
9. Polyester top coat, approx. 40 microns (1.5 mil) thick to
provide good UV protection.
The combination provides approx. 80 microns (3 mil) of paint
thickness overall. Parts are not handled at any time during the
finishing process. All handling equipment is 316 Stainless Steel to
avoid any possible contamination.

thickness over the surface, for maximum corrosion resistance.

Lumascape uses 316 Stainless Steel in many luminaires for its
excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments.
316 Stainless Steel is commonly referred to as ‘Marine Grade’ for
its excellent resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting in
chloride environments (i.e. coastal/ marine areas).
The Galvanic Corrosion Series (displayed to the left) grades the
reactiveness of various common metals. After precious metals, 316
Grade Stainless Steel is the next best option.
The use of 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel and other high grade
materials by Lumascape is why we offer a 10 year structural
warranty on our Stainless Steel inground luminaires, and 5 years on
underwater luminaires.
At Lumascape, we use a 3-stage finishing process on most Stainless
Steel luminaires. It's called ElectroPolishPlus™ and it ensures
your stainless stays ‘stainless’ for a long time.

Inground
A common point for moisture ingress in inground luminaires is
through the cable entry: The same pressures that effect the lid
seal also effect the cable entry point.
This is the reason why every Lumascape inground features
MicroAntiLeach™ a factory installed, 100% watertight cable entry
that blocks moisture from entering into the luminaire. Even if
water gets into the stranded copper, there is no way to get through
into the housing.
Why is IP68 for ingrounds important?
Stranded cable is treated to prevent air and moisture from passing
through the cable itself.
Resin filled to prevent air and moisture from passing through the
cable insulation layers.
IP68 MicroAntiLeach™ cable entry
Water ingress is the most common complaint with inground
luminaires. With water ingress comes internal corrosion, unsightly
droplets under the glass and eventual electrical failure. Even IP67
luminaires, which are claimed to be suitable for exterior use have
frequent water ingress problems.
During the normal operation of an inground luminaire, internal air
pressure can reach up to 6 psi. Air will escape through any
available air-path.
When the luminaire cools down after switch off, a vacuum is created
inside the luminaire, which will draw in any moisture in the
environment (water, humidity) back through the air-path. This is
the start of moisture accumulation inside the luminaire. Only an
IP68 rating can prevent this from occurring.

A common oversight is that normal use of inground luminaires can
include periods of temporary submersion (heavy rains, low lying
areas, irrigation, snow melt, etc). The diagrams (right) show how
water can enter an inground luminaire that is not IP68.
IP67 testing does not require the luminaire to be energized, so
there is no heating and cooling effect on the air pressure inside
the luminaire. IP68 testing does require this type of cyclic
pressure testing, making it a more "real world" test.
This is why all Lumascape inground luminaires are IP68. We ensure
that even during submersion, no water can enter. In fact, our LS343
is independently certified to a depth of 10 m (33'), well beyond
common use, ensuring trouble-free operation over the life of the
luminaire.
However, IP68 is not just about the lid seal, it is also about the
cable entry. That is why we invented the MicroAntiLeach™ cable
entry seal.

This unique, compact design has a high pressure resistance,

PureOptics™ Reflectors
Lumascape’s advanced PureOptics™ reflectors are engineered to
provide maximum efficiency and performance over a long service
life.
Precise and Efficient
At the heart of the PureOptics™ system is a series of advanced
glass reflectors which are treated with a multi-layered dichroic
coating to provide exceptional reflectivity for the wavelengths
within the visible spectrum. Internationally accredited NATA test
laboratories confirm that the PureOptics™ reflectors achieve up to
15% more light output than leading aluminum reflectors.
Accurate and Functional
The PureOptics™ elliptical reflectors are designed to provide
precise beam control. The reflectors project a convergent beam,
dramatically reducing the cut-off experienced with parabolic
reflectors when tilted. This combined with the accuracy of
Lumascape’s direct drive tilting gimbal assembly enables accurate
beam control.
Compatible with HumanTouch™
The coating on the PureOptics™ reflectors has been optimized for
each specified lamp. Visible light reflects off the reflector
surface while infrared rays pass back through the reflector thereby
reducing the surface temperature of the glass. This 'cold mirror'
effect maximizes the reflected light whilst ensuring that
HumanTouch™ temperatures can be achieved on the luminaire glass
surface. Through careful design, sensitive internal component
temperatures are maintained well below critical maximum operating
limits.
Built to Last
The reflective surface of each reflector is protected by a clear
and ultra tough titanium layer to provide many years of service
without degradation of the reflective coating.
Deeper Wall Wash
One of the advantages of the PureOptics™ reflectors is most easily
demonstrated when used in wall washing applications.
When using an elliptical reflector design, combined with the LS688
wall wash lens accessory and utilising a 20° reflector tilt, the
light can be projected virtually to ground level without
significant scalloping.

The HumanTouch™ system not only guarantees the optimal performance
of Lumascape luminaires, it also reduces external glass
temperatures to human friendly levels for public spaces where
safety is the priority.
HumanTouch™ ensures the temperature of all the internal components
are actively maintained well below their maximum safe operating
temperatures. Should abnormal environmental circumstances threaten
to overheat the luminaire, our dual protection system simply turns
the luminaire off.

Slip Resistance in Public Areas Lumascape’s GripGlass™ pattern is
specifically designed to maximize effective contact area achieved
between an average pedestrian footprint and the slip resistant
GripGlass™ treated area, while minimizing the impact on luminaire
output and performance.
Independent laboratories using German standard DIN S1130, have
determined the GripGlass™ treated surface area achieves an R11 (or
greater) performance rating, using the Oil Wet Ramp Test. This R11
rating relates to the surface area effected with the GripGlass™
treatment only (see diagram), and is not applicable to the entire
fixture including untreated glass area and surrounding stainless
steel or brass cover.
A brief explanation of this test is as follows.
OIL-WET RAMP TEST METHOD
Two test persons, wearing standard test shoes, are used to
determine the angle of inclination at which safe walking no longer
occurs, after the pedestrian surface material being tested is
coated with engine lubricating oil. The angles of inclination
obtained are used to assess the friction characteristics of the
test surface.

Effective thermal management of LEDs is essential when designing
and developing LED systems. To prolong their lifetime and improve
performance, LEDs must have acceptable temperatures under all drive
and operating conditions. Inadequate thermal management leads to
color shift and faster lumen depreciation of the LED, and reduced
operating life of the driver.
Heatsinking is often not enough to control temperatures. Active
thermal management methods have been developed by Lumascape
engineers to ensure a long service life with consistent system
performance. Among recent advancements in system design is
Lumascape’s CoolDriveTM technology. CoolDriveTM provides
2-stage
thermal sensing for both light engine and driver. Any
over-temperature condition will override the dimming signal to
maintain temperatures at safe levels whilst staying lit.
CoolDriveTM technology enhances safety and luminaire
longevity.
The luminaire is designed to operate at temperatures up to 50°C
(ambient) before CoolDriveTM will engage the thermal management
override.
Rapid technological advancements and impressive energy savings from
LED light sources have dramatically increased the rate of LED
adoption across the globe. And, as quickly as LED implementation
has grown, so too have the complaints of glare caused by LEDs,
especially in outdoor spaces.
As a manufacturer, it is not enough to produce luminaires that have
the greatest efficacy, achieving higher lumens per watt. A more
holistic approach is required as we once again focus on lighting
quality with better optical design and precision engineering.
We know that the primary source of glare is caused by the high
contrast ratio between the LED lens and the surrounding surface
area. This understanding led us to develop an advanced visual
comfort technology called EasyGlowTM, that reduces contrast while
still achieving maximum light output.
A patented frosted array surrounds the LED lenses and creates a
luminous plane by capturing the small amount of escaping light to
create a backlit effect and thereby reduces the contrast between
the light source and the surrounding surface area. By reducing the
contrast ratio, the perception of glare is dramatically
reduced.
The combination of powerful digital light, premium optics and
excellent glare control delivers best-in class performance. By
helping to mitigate glare, EasyGlowTM improves visual comfort and

Lumascape PowerSyncTM technology combines the convenience of
standard wiring methods with the power of high speed, digital
dimming. PowerSyncTM translates control signal data into a digital
format that can be transmitted over standard copper wire allowing
highly granular addressing and control of every luminaire, using
only 4 wires. The LS6540 PowerSyncTM Data Injector accepts a
growing list of standard protocols (0-10V, DMX/RDM), for simple
integration with new and existing control systems.
WHAT IS POWERSYNCTM TECHNOLOGY
POWER & DATA ALL IN ONE CABLE
With the use of PowerSyncTM the deployment of complicated lighting
control infrastructure becomes a thing of the past. A single 4-core
cable attached to the luminaire is all that is needed, the
PowerSyncTM Data Injector on the circuit does the rest. The
luminaires run on a standard line voltage circuit (120-277 V),
allowing maximum run lengths with minimal voltage drop. A fourth
core in the luminaire cable carries the PowerSyncTM signal.
Using PowerSyncTM technology, each luminaire can be accessed
remotely, and addressed individually for DMX/RDM control. Group
control using standard protocols like 0-10V and phase dimming is
also supported. PowerSyncTM provides a transparent link between an
increasing number of standard protocols and the luminaire. Up to 45
PowerSyncTM enabled units can be supported from a single Data
Injector with a maximum branch circuit length of 492 ft (150
m).

This luminaire takes performance and control technology to a new
level, whilst leveraging the industry leading reliability of the
Lumascape inground platform. The dimmable, single colour luminaire
can be controlled via Lumascape’s innovative PowerSyncTM technology
which allows for highly granular DMX/RDM control via a growing list
of standard industry protocols and allows 2000 Hz flicker free
dimming to 0.1%. Using PowerSyncTM, power and data run in the same,
single luminaire cable making installation clean and simple. In
addition this luminaire incorporates industry leading EasyGlowTM
visual comfort technology, which dramatically reduces the
perception of glare. Furthermore, CoolDriveTM active thermal
management engages as internal temperatures increase to keep light
output consistent, and only under extreme conditions will the
luminaire take control and dim the output gradually and smoothly.
These technological advancements ensure the best in class
performance of the LS3080 continues throughout its working
life.

Why Use LS640-K-87/97 Pre-Installation Blockout?
The LS640-K-97 acts as the ‘rough in section’ or ‘pre installation
blockout’, and can be ordered ahead to suit the site construction
schedule. LS640-K-97 is supplied complete with a blockout cover,
junction box (3-way, 20 mm PVC) and IP68 connector assembly,
allowing the installer to complete all hard-wiring before the
luminaire arrives on site, and ensures the luminaire is not damaged
during site works. The IP68 connector enables tool-free connection
of the luminaire. The junction box remains accessible after
installation.
Note: The ‘97’ version is for dimming options, and the ‘87’ version
is for non-dimming options.
Why Use LS640-K-84 Pre-Installation Blockout?
TThe LS640-K-84 is an alternate installation type for
configurations not supported by the IP68 connector, or for wiring
conditions not compatible with the junction box. LS640-K-84
requires the luminaire to be fitted with ‘type 84’ connection type.
This option is 100% hard-wired, and may require the placement of a
junction box or other approved wiring method (by others) within
reach of the factory-sealed cable entry. All aspects of the
luminaire itself are still field serviceable. Note: This option
does not support dimming.
IP68 Connector for LS640-K-87/97 Pre-Installation Blockout
IP68 Connector & Junction Box The luminaire is fitted with an
IP68 connector, which attaches directly to the cable supplied with
LS640-K-97, without the use of any tools. The cable is 1 m in
length, and is factory assembled with a 3-way junction box –
Remains field serviceable after installation.

Why Use Direct Burial?
Direct burial installation is ideal for landscaping areas or for
special applications where depth is restricted. This type of
installation also allows for maximum heat dissipation. The 316
grade Stainless Steel construction of the luminaire performs
flawlessly in alkaline and acidic soil types, and is also rated for
use in concrete pour applications. Note: This installation type has
no option for a pre-installation blockout.
Lumascape ships the luminaire complete with either 2 m flexible
cable or 0.6 m armored cable and 3-way, 20 mm PVC junction box.
Both options include the MicroAntiLeachTM cable entry seal. These
options provide the installer with greater flexibility to determine
the nature of the electrical connections. These options are 100%
hard-wired. Internal luminaire components remain field serviceable.
Note: PowerSyncTM Dimming and control options are not supported for
direct burial installations – refer Pre Installation Blockout
configurations only.
Recessed Cover Options
Use recessed cover for installation in soil, grass, pavers and
other uneven surfaces where no cover overhang is desired.
Round Flush Cover Options
Use flush covers for installation in fine finished surfaces such as
granite and marble. They can also be used in some suspended
applications. The flush cover will conceal gaps between the
luminaire and the surrounding surface.

Why Use LS640-K-87/97 Pre-Installation Blockout?
The LS640-K-97 acts as the ‘rough in section’ or ‘pre installation
blockout’, and can be ordered ahead to suit the site construction
schedule. LS640-K-97 is supplied complete with a blockout cover,
junction box (3-way, 20 mm PVC) and IP68 connector assembly,
allowing the installer to complete all hard-wiring before the
luminaire arrives on site, and ensures the luminaire is not damaged
during site works. The IP68 connector enables tool-free connection
of the luminaire. The junction box remains accessible after
installation.
Note: The ‘97’ version is for dimming options, and the ‘87’ version
is for non-dimming options.
Why Use LS640-K-84 Pre-Installation Blockout?
TThe LS640-K-84 is an alternate installation type for
configurations not supported by the IP68 connector, or for wiring
conditions not compatible with the junction box. LS640-K-84
requires the luminaire to be fitted with ‘type 84’ connection type.
This option is 100% hard-wired, and may require the placement of a
junction box or other approved wiring method (by others) within
reach of the factory-sealed cable entry. All aspects of the

The LS363LED is a robust, medium wattage inground luminaire with
high efficacy. As an inherently protected luminaire it can be used
in interior spaces and immediately adjacent to combustible
materials (such as wood decking, etc). In addition, internal
rotation and tilt adjustability ensures the most efficient light
delivery can be set according to the site conditions.

Why Use LS644-K-87 Pre-Installation Blockout?
The LS644-K-87 acts as a blockout, and is intended for installation
before the luminaire, however it has other special functions. To
simplify the installation, every LS644-K-87 is supplied complete
with a 3-way junction box, inside which the installer can make all
necessary connections, and allows the completion of all wiring even
before the luminaire arrives on site. This method also ensures the
luminaire itself is not damaged during concreting or other site
works. Note: The junction box remains serviceable after
installation. To complete the installation, Lumascape provides an
IP68 connector, enabling a tool-free final connection from the
luminaire to the branch circuit. In addition, this connector is
readily detachable, allowing for off-site maintenance.
Connection Type '84' for LS644-K-84 Pre-Installation Blockout
Why Use LS644-K-84 Pre-Installation Blockout?
The LS644-K-84 pre-installation kit (order separately) is ideal for
use in applications where maximum flexibility for the type and
location of branch circuit connections are required or where exact
site conditions may be unknown. The LS644-K-84 is also for use with
all applications requiring a color changing or dimmable lighting
scheme. For use with the LS644-K-84 Lumascape provides the LS363LED
complete with 3 m of factory-installed cable with MicroAntiLeach™
seal. This provides the installer with greater flexibility to
determine the type and location of the branch circuit connection.
This option is also 100% hard-wired, and does not feature the IP68
detachable couplings for off-site maintenance. All aspects of the
luminaire itself are still field serviceable.

IP68 Connector & Junction Box
The luminaire is fitted with an IP68 connector, which attaches
directly to the cable supplied with LS644-K-87, without the use of
any tools. The cable is 1 m in length, and is factory assembled
with a 3-way junction box – Remains field serviceable after
installation. Not suitable for color changing or dimmable
applications.
