Riddle
Understanding your communication style can help you to be an effective communicator that will allow you to have a clear message that crosses cultural boundaries.
Children placed in your care will also have a distinct communication style. Learning about how they best communicate will help you to establish a solid relationship.
• Sarcasm—This can often be misunderstood as rude or disrespectful. Be cautious with how you use sarcasm with and around kids in care who are new to your home even when they use it with you. The nuances of sarcasm are often understood based on cultural context.
• Assumptions—Create an atmosphere where it is safe to ask questions and for kids to ask you questions about culture.
