New hopes, new beginnings: New hopes, new beginnings: New hopes, new beginnings: A new year’s message A new year’s message A new year’s message
Fr. Jessie M. Hechanova, CICM, President
e welcome the year 2013 with
new hopes and fresh starts,
but more importantly with
renewed faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus is the way to peace. His life and
teachings show the path to a meaningful
life which can be achieved only through
a life lived for others. Peace is about
each one of us becoming a blessing to
everyone. Giving as well as receiving of
others’ own gesture of generosity, and
according mutual r espect and
understanding to each other are
definitely key features of the Christian road to peace. May this new year be a peaceful
one. May it be a year of grace for all of us here in SLU, with our families and friends.
This year also concludes the Year of Faith happening on the 24th of November, which
was launched October last year to invite us to rediscover the beauty and to deepen our
understanding of the word of God as a condition for a renewed Christian life. May
SLU as a Catholic and a CICM university inspire a revitalized life of faith in all its
stakeholders.
Finally, this year moreover marks the 50th anniversary of the elevation of SLU into an
academic university status, thus becoming the first private university in northern
Philippines in 1963. Filled with high expectations and aspirations for the times ahead,
the CICM hoped SLU to be the source of knowledge and faith in the Cordillera region.
The CICM envisioned SLU to be the proverbial “light of the North” tasked to illumine
the way to quality education resulting in the graduates’ possession of a better quality of
life. May we continue this year to radiate the light of learning and hope in the world.
To our students, rest assured that the SLU administration, faculty, and personnel are
here to journey with you throughout the year.
Happy New Year! With God’s mercy, together we will succeed.
