RY 2014 - 2015 September 2014 issue NEW GENERATIONS MONTH Whenever we talk of the youth, we cannot help but be reminded of that great maxim from our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, “The youth is the hope of the fatherland”. That is why even in our organization, we have established programs addressing the welfare and development of the youth. At the forefront are our Interact and Rotaract clubs for high school and college students, respectively. We have the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards or RYLA, an effective supplement to further hone up their skills and talents before they face the real world in a few years’ or months’ time. In addition, heading the six areas of focus being promoted by RI for our service projects is Basic Education and Literacy which is intended primarily for the youth. In recent years, RI has added another avenue of service, a fifth one which is Youth Service and to explain the underlying principle for this decision, allow me to quote from RI’s code of policies, to wit: Rotary International’s Fifth Avenue, Youth Service, acknowledges the importance Rotary places on younger generations. It is through service to them, to their future and also to mankind itself that we, as Rotarians, strive to offer a variety of tools that may help the younger generations to master the challenges of the times to come. Combining the different programs and service projects for younger generations in one avenue should lead to a stronger approach and to more encouragement for clubs and districts to be fully engaged in this valuable cause. Indeed, we cannot overemphasize the need to give due attention to our youth. Then and now, more than two hundred years hence, given the fast advancement in technologies, changing life styles, morals and norms, we still say ”nasa kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”. NEW GENERATIONS MONTH

Whenever we talk of the youth, we cannot help but be reminded of that greatmaxim from our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, “The youth is the hope of thefatherland”.

That is why even in our organization, we have established programs addressingthe welfare and development of the youth. At the forefront are our Interactand Rotaract clubs for high school and college students, respectively. We have

the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards or RYLA, an effective supplement to further hone up theirskills and talents before they face the real world in a few years’ or months’ time. In addition, headingthe six areas of focus being promoted by RI for our service projects is Basic Education and Literacywhich is intended primarily for the youth.

In recent years, RI has added another avenue of service, a fifth one which is Youth Service and toexplain the underlying principle for this decision, allow me to quote from RI’s code of policies, towit:

Rotary International’s Fifth Avenue, Youth Service, acknowledges the importance Rotary places on youngergenerations. It is through service to them, to their future and also to mankind itself that we, as Rotarians, strive to offer a variety of tools that may help the younger generations to master the challenges of the times tocome. Combining the different programs and service projects for younger generations in one avenue shouldlead to a stronger approach and to more encouragement for clubs and districts to be fully engaged in thisvaluable cause.

Indeed, we cannot overemphasize the need to give due attention to our youth.

Then and now, more than two hundred years hence, given the fast advancement in technologies, changing life styles, morals and norms, we still say ”nasa kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan”.
