EQUIPMENT NEWS m [] Positive displacement pump in disguise The Centurion CP rotary vane pump is an extremely versatile addition to the options available to pump operators in the chem- ical processing industries. Dimensionally interchangeable with ANSI centrifugal pumps, the new Blackmer pump makes positive displacement pumping a more accessible alternative for variable conditions of flow, pres- sure or viscosity. The new pump operates with sliding vanes in a hydrauli- cally balanced design. It is self- priming, and can handle a very wide range of viscosities and flow rates. Capacity varies in direct proportion to the speed of the pump. The Centurion offers high reliability and low maintenance. An intrinsic feature of the Blackmer's new Centurion offers positive pumping in an ANSI pump format. design is that it self-adjusts to maintain like-new efficiency. Vane replacement can be done in a few minutes without remov- ing the pump from the pipework. Because the pump capacity can be adjusted to the process requirements, signifi- cant energy savings can be achieved. Contact: Blackmer Industrial, 1809 Century Avenue, Grand Rapids, MI 49509, USA. The SPX advancement is highlighted by its direct-cou- pled design which combines the benefits of both bare-shaft and close-coupled designs tradi- tionally associated with hose pumps, while remedying the drawbacks of each. Previous to this develop- ment, the Bredel hose pumps had employed the bare-shaft design, which offered excellent reliability, low maintenance, and a fully protected gearbox. Close- coupled designs, while more compact and easier to install, could not provide reliable gear- box protection. The new SPX direct-coupled design offers the small footprint and ease installa- tion along with the low mainte- nance, reliability, and gearbox protection. The SPX gearbox actually plugs in to the pumphead with an innovative buffer zone pro- tecting the gearbox and provid- ing early warning in the unlikely event of a seal failure. The new SPX Series hosepumps also fea- ture simple hose clamping com- bined with a powered hose- changing system, increased cor- rosion resistance, and a re- designed casing for easier main- tenance and greater stability.
