Remember that the texts and questions will usually use different words to express the same thing. Look at the questions and try to predict what clues you might find in the text. For example, the first person says that she hasn’t got much money. What information might you look for in the texts?

3 The photo card task always includes questions about things in the past and the future.
To talk about what you are going to do use the near future tense. Use the present tense of the verb ir + a + infinitive.

Prepare your own answers to the first three questions. Think about which other two questions you might be asked. Then listen and take part in the full photo card discussion.

1 Look at the role play card and prepare what you are going to say.
Remember to use the preterite or imperfect tense here.
Start with ‘I would like…’. Pay attention to the number of details required.
In role play tasks you have to give at least one opinion, o� en with a reason.
There are several possibilities here (e.g. ‘Is there…?’ ‘At what time…?’).
Practise what you have prepared. Then, using your notes, listen and respond to the teacher.

Role play tasks always require you to ask a question. Decide whether this needs to start with a question word. Can you remember what these question words mean?

B – Photo card
Look at the photo and make notes. Your teacher will then ask you questions about the photo and about topics related to travel and tourism.
Your teacher will ask you the following three questions and then two more questions which you have not prepared.
• ¿Qué hay en la foto?
• ¿Te gustan las vacaciones en el extranjero? … ¿Por qué (no)?
• ¿Dónde pasaste tus últimas vacaciones?

Hola Ricardo
En febrero fui de vacaciones a una estación de esquí en Austria con mi insti. Nos alojamos en un albergue juvenil y viajamos en autocar. ¡Qué incómodo! Lo mejor fue que aprendí a esquiar, pero lo peor fue cuando me caí en la pista y tuve que ir al hospital.
El albergue estaba en un pueblo pequeño que tenía vistas bonitas. Era pintoresco pero desafortunadamente no tenía ni tiendas ni cafeterías. Tampoco había mucho que hacer.
En mi opinión es mejor alojarse en un hotel dado que hay aire acondicionado. Lo bueno de un camping es que se admiten perros, pero una desventaja es que es ruidoso.
Este año creo que vamos a ir a Pakistán ya que mis abuelos viven allí. Me chifl a viajar en avión, aunque el vuelo es agotador. Voy a ir de pesca con mi abuelo porque le encanta.

In the holidays I often go to the cinema given that I love watching films. Last summer I went to Frejus in the south of France where my best friend has a caravan. It was sunny every day and so we went sightseeing. We took photos and ate lots of ice creams, too. Next year my parents are going to rent a house in the country.
Look out for phrases which don’t translate word for word. For example, which verb do you need to use for ‘we went sightseeing’?
Remember, to talk about what you are going to do you need to use the near future tense. Use the present tense of the verb ir + a + infinitive.
