WELCOME TO PATAGONIA ...too big for just one country

Los Glaciares National Park, one of the most exquisite corners of the globe, is near El Chalten, in Argentine Patagonia. Its magnificent natural beauty has earned it "World Heritage" status. Lakes, forests and glaciers abound and the soaring peaks of Mt. Fitz Roy provide a grand backdrop. Rose took this photo along its most popular one day hike, Laguna de los Tres, an 8hr moderate walk through stunning scenery.

Patagonia... just saying the word sounds exciting, conjuring up ideas of a far flung place of mystery and romance, luring you to new lands and new experiences that you haven’t yet imagined.

Well that is how it was for us, and now that we know it well, we want to share it with you.

Patagonia is too big, and bold to be held back by a political border, so instead it straddles the Southern Andes of Chile and Argentina. It’s a land of perfect volcanoes, serene lakes, glorious glaciers and breathtaking fjords. It really is jaw droppingly good! The north is home to forests, lakes and volcanoes, and the south gives you rugged wilderness including Torres del Paine, perhaps South America’s greatest National Park, and the breathtaking performance that is Perito Moreno glacier.

The corridor linking north and south is the ‘Carretera Austral’, the legendary road acting as the spine of Patagonia. For travellers with a passion for exploring this is for you; no tourists, no crowds, no bitumen and no postcards. A place to simply be. Be surrounded by beauty, by places without names and, be ready to create memories you can’t photograph. If you like the outdoors, picturesque villages, and inspirational landscapes then you need to put Patagonia on your menu.

With our passion, experience and meticulous planning, we are committed to creating your pefect journey that will give you memories to cherish forever.

This brochure is simply a short menu of the travel banquet that is Patagonia. There’s plenty more to add and we’ll tell you about them when we chat.

We hope you enjoy the read and look Forward to talking to you soon.

ANDES CROSSING

Southern Patagonia is really HOT but its temperatures are pretty cool. You might get mid 20’s in summer, but in winter double digits are not common. The breeze becomes wind and speaks with a strong ‘Antarctic accent’.

SOUTHERN PATAGONIA

Nov-Mar reaches 25°C while Apr-Oct peaks around 15°C. Rain can come all year, with Apr-Sep getting the most. You’lll need warm and waterproof clothes, and swimmers for cooling off in summer and warming up in hot springs in winter.

LAKES & VOLCANOES

Nov–Mar are the warmest months

reaching up to mid 20’s, and the

best for bus and ferry connections

on the Carretera Austral. Jul-Aug is

the coolest, with max temperature

in the single digits, but it has lots of

LATAM flies from Sydney to Santiago daily, with a short stop in Auckland, and from October 2017 they willl fly direct from Melbourne to Santiago 3 times a week. QANTAS flies non-stop from Sydney to Santiago 4 times a week and QANTAS and LATAM are both One World partners. This means you can purchase a ticket with one airline and fly on the other if available. Don’t worry though – we will explain it all when planning your trip.

LATAM was formed in 2012 when LAN and TAM merged, combining their networks which now covers over 115 cities in South America. in 2016 they will complete their merge by rebranding both airlines to LATAM, so you will start to see the LATAM livery rolled out across South America. Buying a LATAM airline ticket to South America gives you up to 50% discount on flights within South America, making them the best option. Our close relationship with LATAM ensures we have great value airfares in both economy and business and are experts in booking them.

In 2015 LATAM intrduced the Boeing 787 Dreamliner between Sydney and Santiago. This aircraft features:

• Larger windows with auto-dimming and dynamic lighting to create a better atmosphere.

• Aerodynamic technology to reduce the impact felt by passengers due to turbulence.

• 30% more storage space for carry-on luggage.• New air humidification techniques to significantly reduce

fatigue and dryness associated with long trips.• Noise reducing technology inside and outside the aircraft.

GETTING TO PATAGONIA SIMPLY TURN RIGHT FROM SANTIAGO OR BUENOS AIRES LATAM AND QANTAS FLY FROM SYDNEY (AND MELBOURNE IN LATE 2017) TO SANTIAGO WITH CONNECTIONS AVAILABLE FROM ALL AUSTRALIAN STATES, AND ONTO OVER 115 CITIES IN SOUTH AMERICA, INCLUDING 16 WITHIN CHILE.

• Arrival and departure transfers where mentioned.• All land transportation, and cruises/ferries where mentioned.• Good quality, well located hotels with private bathrooms.• Breakfast daily. Other meals as listed.• English speaking guided touring. • Prepayable entrance fees. Some National Parks are pay as you go. We’ll let you know if this applies to you.• 24 hour assistance by our trusted partners in each country.• Prices are valid to March 2018. Prices shown are ‘from’ prices and are subject to availability and seasonal price increases. • See page 55 and our website for full terms and conditions.

Flights are NOT included. Some internal flights can often be included with your International ticket to save you money. We will discuss flights with you and advise the best option.

Most people convince a partner or friend to travel with them so prices shown are per person, based on two people travelling to-gether and sharing a room. If you are looking for some solitude we can plan a trip just for you. Most of these trips are sug-gestions and can be tailored as you wish. We welcome larger groups and can often secure discounts for them. To keep things simple all the itineraries in this brochure have our signature Forward inclusions.

We think planning travel is just like cooking. We choose the best ingredients then creatively find ways to showcase their highlights and cook it fresh for each diner. We’ll talk to you to find out how hungry you are and what flavours you like, so we can then create the perfect recipe tailored to your ‘travel buds’. In keeping with our cooking theme here is our menu, with the symbols below to help follow the recipes. ‘Icing on the cake’, and ‘Side dishes’ will help you add your own Forward Flavour to each itinerary. We hope you like our way of thinking.

THE FORWARD MENU

All our journeys are customised for each person, so our style of travel is really your style. We’ll discuss how you like to travel, the type of hotels and touring you prefer as well as how enegertic you want to be. We’ll then make suggestions to suit your preferences. We don’t pigeon hole you by star ratings, instead we discuss your preferences and match properties to suit. The hotels used here are mainly good quality 3.5-4 star, well located with local style. We have fantastic indulgent places to mix it up when suitable.

OUR PICK

OUR HOTELS: Here are some of our favourite hotels, chosen for value and location

UPCALE

Arc Recoleta is a boutique hotel that combines an excellent location with the highest service and quality standards in the best area of Recoleta, the most elegant neighbourhood in Buenos Aires. It's a great area for walking, and close to restaurants.

TOURIST

Meliá Recoleta Plaza, in the most exclusive part of Buenos Aires, was the first residence of Evita Perón. This sophisticated hotel will enchant you with its beautiful landscaped areas. It's near Recoleta Cemetery, with shopping and cafes close by.

On the shores of Lago Nahuel Huapi, this sophisticated hotel is just a few minutes walk from the main square. It has great public areas, an indoor pool and a sundeck to take in the fabulous views. We prefer the superior rooms, to get a lake view.

On it's own peninsula, 30 mins from town, enveloped in the stunning national park., this is a grand hotel and an icon of Patagonia. Pricey, but the Moreno rooms are amazing, otherwise drop in for High Tea to experience the hotel for a lot less money.

This is the perfect little hotel to stay at. Just steps from the small town centre, it has everything you need. Clean, comfortable with a nice pool and hummingbird feeders in garden courtyard. Our first choice hotel unless you want to be at the Falls.

Inside the National Park, with views to the Falls and just a few minutes from them, this is the place for those seeking a 'bucket list' experience. Go the 'whole hog' and book a Falls View room then sit on your balcony and watch the spray rise in the distance.

This new, boutique hotel is in the heart of the gastronomic Lastarria neighbour-hood, right across from the park. A blend of period and art deco design, it has a roof top terrace with a bar, heated pool, and spectacular views over the city and Andes.

You'll feel right at home in this beautiful hotel, with just 31 rooms. Very close to restaurants, attractions , museums, shops and malls, it is in the heart of Providencia whose history dates back more than a century to the founding of Santiago.

On the shores of Lake Llanquihue, the hotel offers spacious rooms. Bigger than most of our hotels, it's a great choice for location and price. The terrace is perfect for soaking up the sun and volcano views. Grab a free poncho on the way out as it gets quite cool.

Impressively located, with an elevated view over the lake to the volcanos, this is the most comfortable hotel in Puerto Varas. It has a great lounge area, outdoor terrace and you can relax in the hot tub while admiring the lake view.

OUR ULTIMATE PATAGONIA ADVENTURE CARRETERA AUSTRAL ∙ MARBLE CAVES ∙ VALLE CHACABUCO ∙ TORTEL ∙ EL CHALTEN ∙ EL CALAFATE

Come with me far away from the tourist trail, along the legendary Carretera Austral. This is my Ultimate Patagonia journey, living inside a postcard, where every single view is worthy of a photograph. We'll ride with gauchos, glide through caves of marble, barbeque with settler families, and hike with passionate guides. We'll immerse ourselves in the sublime Chacabuco Valley, hike above the Great Glacier, and complete our journey by walking to Argentina through an untouched valley. This is a slow journey to allow time to really explore, paying homage to the Gaucho saying,’he who rushes, wastes time”. I really hope you will join me.

2 NOV: BALMACEDA – RIO SIMPSON We meet our guides at Balmaceda airport and drive to Coyhaique.Afternoon visit the beautiful Simpson Natural Reserve to stretch our legs and start breathing in the fresh air. Tonight we’ll dine at the famous Dali restaurant.

DAY 2: CERRO CASTILLO – RIO TRANQUILLOEarly start south along the Carretera Austral to Villa Cerro Castillo, where the mountain peak really does look like a castle. We'll visit caves to see the 5,000 year old hand prints then hike, by horse and foot, to the glacial lagoon. We say goodbye to bitumen and continue to Rio Tranquillo on the shore of Lake General Carrera.

DAY 3: ICE TREKKING ON EXPLORADES GLACIERDrive 52km west to reach the glacier. We'll put on crampons and be immersed in a quiet world of blue, green and white. We’ll explore some of the ice caves and walk through the crevasses, touching ice that is tens of thousands of years old.

DAY 4, MARBLE CAVES AND PUERTO BERTANDA peninsula of solid marble, 300 million years old, has been slowly eroded by waves creating a labyrinth of marble caverns. Entering the caves we’ll be surrounded by the marble, the clear water of the lake, and light filtering in from the outer world, creating a spectacle of colour and contrasts. Floating within these immense walls of marble is one of the most surreal travel experiences there is.Back on the road we have

our first sighting of The Baker river, one of the most beautiful in the world, and the longest in Chile. We can go horse riding and relax in the hot tubs before a short drive to Parque Patagonia, our base for 3 nights.

DAY 5. PARQUE PATAGONIA.An amazing result of the passion and vision of Kris and Doug Tompkins. This future National Park was once an overgrazed sheep and cattle ranch that now protects an abundance of Patagonian steppe grasslands, glaciated peaks, and rebounding wildlife.

After a hearty breakfast challenge yourself on the spectacular 23-km Lagunas Altas day hike. Walk towards the summit of Mount Tamanguito before winding around stunning alpine lakes

with dramatic views of the valley. It has been named one of “Patagonia’s best five treks” and continues to offer visitors an incredibly rewarding challenge. There are other options as well, including rafting on the Baker river, kayaking and fly fishing.

DAY 5. PARQUE PATAGONIA. Touring the Chacabuco Valley and hike the Lago Chico Loop.Experience the dramatic transformation in ecosystems as we drive east to the border with Argentina. In less than two hours, we’ll be looking across the vast expanse of the Argentine Patagonian steppe. For dinner, gather around the parrilla (grill) in the restaurant for a traditional asado (BBQ) and buffet alongside staff and other guests.

We’ll continue the trail for an hour through a millenary Lenga forest until the base of “the moraine”. Meet your Tour leader, Brent McKean, Brent has been the editor of Great Walks magazine for ten years and has spent much of his journalism career working for travel magazines and exploring many parts of the world. Kiwi by birth, Brent took off on his OE (overseas experience) when he was 22 and never looked back. He spent a year in South and Central America and has visited numerous Asian and African countries. TIME/LENGTH: 4-5HRS - 11KMRECOMMENDED START TIME: 9.00 AMDIFFICULTY LEVEL: MEDIUM.

A relatively easy day today as hike West into the central area of the park. The trail goes along the base of Almirante Nieto, part of the Paine Massif, with fantastic views to Nordenskjöld Lake. In November the flora changes colour as the prolific “Ciruelillo” or “Fire Bush”, with its bright red flowers comes into bloom. Our cabins are located at the base of Los Cuernos (the Horns), considered by many one of the most charming sites in the whole park, a perfect spot to rest and recover energies for the next day challenging trek: “The French Valley”.

DAY 5, 22 NOVEMBER. TREKKING TO FRENCH VALLEY (B,L,D)

TIME/LENGTH: 10-12HRS - 11KMRECOMMENDED START TIME: 8.00 AMDIFFICULTY LEVEL: HIGH.

The delightful French Valley (Valle del Francés) is a natural amphitheatre surrounded by sheer cliffs, hanging glaciers and dramatic rock formations. We will be very well rewarded for our efforts today with a 360 degree view of the park. It is common to feel overwhelmed trying to take in the view, as each direction seems to compete for our attention. Standing at the Britannico viewpoint, in the midst of the valley is a very humbling experience. The first 2 hours is quite undulating with views to Nordenskjöld Lake, till we reach “Campamento Italiano”. Here we can leave our big backpack,

and continue with a small day backpack. The ascent goes for about 90min to French Glacier lookout, where we’ll see its hanging glacier and the regular calvings of ice falling from its tip. Another 20 minutes will take us to the point considered by many as one of the most overwhelming spots in the Circuit: Mirador Británico. Paine Grande, Cerro Hoja, Cerro Máscara, Cerro Catedral, Cerro Aleta de Tiburón, Cuerno Norte, will all be here to great us. The return is the same way back to “Campamento Italiano”, and then to Pehoé sector.

DAY 6, 23 NOVEMBER. TREKKING TO GREY GLACIER (B,L)

TIME/LENGTH: 4-5HRS, 11KMRECOMMENDED START TIME: 8.00 AMDIFFICULTY LEVEL: MEDIUM

Trek to Grey Glacier lookout The trail takes us through the western side of the Paine Massif with views to Grey Lake and Mountains. After 90min we will reach the first lookout, where we can see the distant Grey Glacier. Another 2 hours of hiking will take take us to the main lookout, in front of the glacier. As a special treat, we will board the catamaran and cruise along the face of the glacier and across Lago Grey instead of returning along the same trail. Our trek is almost complete now, with just a short walk to the catamaran to cross Pehoé Lake, where our bus will be waiting to take us back to Puerto Natales, arriving late evening.

DAY 7, 24 NOVEMBER. ONWARD JOURNEY (B)Depart after breakfast. There is more fantastic trekking in Argentina, accessed by a 5hrs bus trip from Puerto Natales.

Explore the remote and wild Aysen region of Chile. Evergreen forests, emerald coloured lakes and rivers, blue glaciers, hidden valleys and the ever present Andean Mountain range. Trek to Cerro Castillo (2,320 m), an oddly-shaped hill that resembles a castle of rock and ice. Sail Lake General Carrera, where the water has etched cavities and caves out of the marble that surrounds it. Go fly-fishing on the Baker River, the fastest flowing in Chile. Or simply drive to the end of the highway and enjoy the landscapes of Villa O’Higgins.

DAY 1. BALMACEDA - RIO TRANQUILOPick up car upon arrival in Balmaceda.

Driving south the pampa gives way to green forests and incredible peaks. Stop to admire the views at Cerro Castillo, with its unique shape and beauty of making it one of the most iconic and eye-catching mountains in the area. After time to enjoy the scene, continue to Rio Tranquillo.

DAY 2. MARBLE CAVES - PUERTO GUADAL (B)Take a morning boat trip through the marble caves, an incredible formation built by water and wind. Then drive the short distance to your lodge in Puerto Guadal, on the southern shore of Lake General Carrera. You should have time for a walk or general look around this afternoon.

DAY 3. CALETA TORTEL Continue along the unexploited Carretera Austral. Arrive at Caleta Tortel, a town completely built on stilts, where raised pathways act as roads.

DAY 4. CALETA TORTELTime today to explore this unique village or maybe visit some of the local glaciers, or even cruise to the Isla de los Muertos, with breathtaking scenery. It was only in 1950 the island’s grim contents were found. No statues, no graveyards, or even names, only thirty-three wooden crosses indicating that lie under the soil. It is thought to be the burial site of early land clearers killed during the tortuous work, but we’re sure the lcoals have other stories

DAY 5. VILLA O’HIGGINS (B)Reach the end of the road at Villa O’Higgins isolated between mountains and fjords. Take a lovely 45min ferry from Puerto Yungay and Rio Bravo.

DAY 6. VILLA O’HIGGINS (B)Day at leisure. We highly recommend taking the trip to the great O’Higgins Glacier.

DAY 8. PUERTO BETRAND (B) Continue North to Puerto Bertand, at the mouth of the Baker river.

DAY 9. BALMACEDA (B) Drive back to Balmaceda. Drop car at airport.

This small village at the mouth

of Chile’s largest river features

wooden walkways instead of

streets. It’s known for the wooden

houses that sit on stilts above the

water, that is also typical of Chiloé.

A peninsula of solid marble, slowly eroded by waves for 6,000 years is now a labyrinth of marble caves. Their walls sparkle with reflections of the blue, changing with the light water level.

FROM $3,150 PER PERSON, TWIN SHARE

Take advantage of the open spaces and relatively empty roads to forge your own journey in southern Chile where the skies open up and the views seem to go beyond the horizon. Driving yourself allows plenty of photo stops which is very necesassry dowm here. Our advice is, hire a car similar in size to what you are used to driving. This makes the driving much easier. We’ll plan your route, book your accommodation, and give you detailed maps with your route clearly marked, so you can relax and enjoy the journey. Here’s a suggestion.

DAY 1 - PUNTA ARENAS (30 KM) Pick up your car at the airport or downtown office. Punta Arenas is the largest and most important city of Chilean Patagonia which is located on the western side of the Strait of Magellan. Its inhabitants come from a mix of cultural backgrounds; English sheep ranchers as well as Portuguese sailors settled here.

DAY 2 - TO TORRES DEL PAINE (410 KM) (B)The long drive to Torres del Paine National Park will take us along many interesting stops on the way, for example to the Penguin Colony on the Otway Sound. The main road to Puerto Natales is paved and in good conditions. Torres del Paine National Park will welcome you from far with its gigantic granite towers. DAY 3 - TORRES DEL PAINE (B)The National Park Torres del Paine is one of the most impressive parks in Chile because of its unique wildlife and dramatic scenery. The park is best known for its steep granite towers (torres), the unique horns (cuernos) and the Big Paine Mountain. The massif is crowned by glaciers and surrounded by cascading rivers and beautiful emerald lakes. The park was designated World Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in 1978. There are many hiking trails to choose from, to discover this gorgeous park. DAY 4 - TO EL CALAFATE (345 KM) (B)Passing through Cerro Castillo, a village and estancia near the border, you will cross into Argentina. From the border onwards, you will mainly drive through the vast and desolate Argentinean Pampa to El Calafate. You may spot a sheep farm or occasionally encounter wild animals along the way. Your destination

El Calafate is located on the shores of Lago Argentino, surrounded by impressive, snow-capped peaks. DAY 5 - PERITO MORENO GLACIER (177 KM) (B)Los Glaciares National Park is outstandingly beautiful and you will be able to discover the park, hiking one of the numerous trails. The primary attraction is the Perito Moreno Glacier stretching over 200 km/124 mi with an imposing front wall of 60 m/197 ft height and 4 km/2.5 mi length. Enormous ice chunks occasionally fall off the front wall and crash into the Lake Argentino.

DAY 6 - TO EL CHALTEN (220KM) (B)Head north this morning to El Chalten, the trekking cpital of Argentina. You’ll be greeted along the way by Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre rising up from the steppe, guiding you to them. Arrive to El Chalten and check in to your hotel. You can ask the hotel staff or any of the trekking shops about which walks may be best for you. Alternatively we can organsie a guide for you so you can tailor make your own path.

DAY 7 - EL CHALTEN (B)Spend the day as you please on any number of hikes, or maybe drive to Lago Del Desierto and take a gentle ferry ride then walk through the remote forest.

DAY 8 - RETURN TO EL CALAFATE (220KM) (B)Time for another walk or maybe ice trekking (or climbing) on Viedma glacier before returning to El Calafate. Make sure you call in at the historic rest area, La Leona, built in 1894. It is now famous as being the place where Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid stayed for a month after robbing the bank of London in Rio Gallagos.

DAY 9 - TO PUERTO NATALES (360 KM) (B)Start your return trip on the legendary Argentinean Route 40 to Puerto Natales in Chile. After crossing the border, you will be able to visit Puerto Natales or the sites in the region, like the Milodón Cave, where scientists discovered the remains of a gigantic sloth. DAY 10 - TO PUNTA ARENAS (250 KM) (B)From Puerto Natales it will take 3 hours to return to Punta Arenas. Drop off you car at the airport or downtown rental office.

ARGENTINA AND CHILE

DAY 1: EL CALAFATE Arrive into El Calafate.

DAY 2: EXCURSION TO PERITO MORENO GLACIERPick up from hotel for the tour. The views of Lake Argentino and the steppe are fantastic. On the peninsula in front of the glacier are the walkways, which afford great views of the glacier face, at times up to 60m of towering ice! If you are lucky you will also see some ice calving, creating great waves on the lake. Evening bus to El Chaltén. Met upon arrival and taken to the hotel. We will have a short briefing about the following days’ activities.

DAY 3: TREK TO PIEDRA DEL FRAILE AND POLLONE GLACIERTransfer from Río Electrico. From here we start walking along the valley, through an enchanting lenga forest until we arrive at Piedra del Fraile, about 2 hours later. This will be our home for the night. After a short break and some lunch we continue along the valley towards the Pollone Glacier. The trek here is against the prevailing winds from the Continental Ice field. We are able to appreciate raw nature at its best; pure rock and ice. Along the way we admire a different angle of Mt Fitz Roy, its Northern Face. After a short break at this hidden lagoon at the base of the mountains we return to our refuge to enjoy a hot meal and rest.Walking: 6 hs. Distance: 15 Km

DAY 4: TREK TO LAGUNA DE LOS TRESAfter breakfast we head back to the Eléctrico bridge and head for Piedras Blancas glacier viewpoint. After crossing the river the path ascends steeply up to Laguna de los Tres, the closest we can get to Fitz Roy without doing anything technical. The effort is all made worthwhile by the breath-taking views we get at the top; of Mt Fitz Roy, its satellite mountains and the view of the valley we have been walking along. We will then start the descent towards our next camp. From here we can continue to enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and glaciers.Walking: 7/8 hs. Distance: 17 Km.

DAY 5: TREK TO LAGUNA TORREAfter breakfast we will continue through the beautiful lenga forests past the lagoons - Madre, Hija and Nieta. The path is quite flat, a break after the climbing of the day before! After a couple of hours we will drop in to the glacial valley that takes us towards Laguna Torre. This valley is loved by geologists and photographers for its perfect “U” shape. At the end of the valley we will find the Laguna Torre, its glacier and the famous Mt Torre – considered one of the most difficult mountains in the world to climb. After lunch at the lagoon we head back towards Chaltén along the Fitz Roy River valley.Walking: 7/8 hs. Distance: 21 Km

DAY 6: BUS TO EL CALAFATE / AIRPORTThe bus to EL Calafate departs at 08:00 arriving in at the airport at about 10.30/11am so you can catch any flight 12 o’clock onwards.

ACCESS

Have you ever felt completely insignificant in comparison to nature? Well, get ready to feel precisely that way among the turquoise waters, glaciers and towering granite horns of the Torres del Paine National Park.

The jaw-dropping landscapes of this eighth wonder of the world are humbling indeed. Immerse yourself in this vast national park; a backpack and comfortable shoes are all you require for a trekking adventure, the best possible way to explore this UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

Spend one day or several days in the park to see condors, foxes, guanacos and if you're really lucky, pumas up close.

Cuernos del Paine comprise the 3 Cuernos, Principal (2,600m), Este (2,200m) and Norte (2,400m). To the west is the Valle del Frances - one of the glories of the park - a high altitude valley ringed by a curtain of almost vertical rock.

THE CUERNOS

TORRES DEL PAINE NP, the 8th wonder of the World

There's terrific wildlife-watching in the park. See majestic condors wheeling in the skies overhead. Look out for foxes, huemul or Andean deer and guanacos along the way, and if you are really lucky you could spot the reclusive puma.

DAYS 2, 3, 4 & 5, WILDLIFE EXPLORATION We start off each day early, photographing the sunrise from distinct locations while enjoying hot coffee and breakfast on the go. Our puma/cougar tracking team, already hard at work, will be in radio contact to let us know how they’re doing. Throughout the trip they will be letting us know the location of the park's most elusive animals including the Andean puma (mountain lion) and the endangered huemul (South Andean deer) so that we can head to the sites where they are as soon as they're spotted. We enjoy around six hours of wildlife observation, studying and photographing the park’s native flora & fauna, guided by Diego's photography tips, before heading back to EcoCamp for lunch and relaxation time. In the afternoons, after the peak sun hours with little animal movement, we head out again, this time to the park’s western sector where we enjoy the beautiful landscapes and flora & fauna to be found. We visit landmark places such as Grey Glacier and other striking natural monuments. After photographing the iconic Patagonian sunset over the Paine massif we return to EcoCamp for dinner.DAY 6 DEPARTURE TORRES DEL PAINE NP, CHILEYour last day will begin with an early, hearty breakfast served amongst your fellow wildlife lovers in our Community Domes. From there, you will embark on a short day of activities before regrouping at EcoCamp for a well-deserved lunch. Please note that this is a sample Itinerary.(actual Itinerary will depend on Puma tracking team, group & weather conditions)

ANTARCTICA

CHOOSING YOUR EXPEDITIONThe highest, driest, coldest, windiest and most remote continent on the planet, Antarctica is

a breathtaking banquet of wilderness and wildlife, and the ultimate ‘cherry on the cake’ to a South American journey.

Standing on the bow as you gently glide through the still waters enclosed by towering ‘meringue’ covered peaks, you are entranced by the silence, interrupted by the thunderous crash of calving glaciers, rolling icebergs, or whales passing by.

Wildlife abounds, with busybody penguins, graceful whales and curious seals combining to put on one of nature’s finest performances, leaving you inspired, amazed and eager for an encore.

There is a range of expeditions available, with ship choice and duration being the key factors.

We have have been to Antarctica multiple times so can offer first hand advice to help you choose your expedition. We really like and recommend the One Ocean Expeditions operated, Akademik Ioffe and Akademik Sergey Vavilov.

We offer fly/cruise options from Punta Arenas, getting you there quicker and avoiding The Drake, as well as the classic cruise options from Ushuaia in Argentina.

The ultimate dessert, the icing on the cake, or maybe even the cherry on top of any South America journey

Antarctica is just a 2.5hr flight from Punta Arenas, making it an easy addition to any Chile journey. Express journeys let you fly down, meet your cruise and spend 3-4 days exploring the icy frontier. A great way to experience the magic if you are short of time.

FLY-FLY

11 - 22 DAYS

The abundance and accessibility

of the wildlife have rightly earned it

the nickname - “Galapagos of the

South”. Multiple penguin species,

large albatross colonies, and many

marine mammals are just some of

the delights awaiting you.

FALKLANDS

10 - 22 DAYS Cruises are from 10-13 nights for the Antarctic Peninsula, and 18-19 nights if you wish to visit the wildlife rich sub Antarctic islands of The Falklands and South Georgia as well.

The popular Epic voyages combine selected expeditions starting from Punta Arenas, visiting Antarctica and The Falkland Islands over an incredible 22 days.

NOV-MAREarly season is great for ice and scenery, with shiny snow covered mountains resembling meringues as they glisten in the beautiful light.

Anticipation builds in mid-season as the light extends and you can reach further south, crossing the Antarctic Circle.

Late season is full of action as whales prepare for the journey north and penguin chicks start to explore, with leopard seals and orcas ready and waiting to greet them.

Going beyond designated tourist trails and not being restricted by political lines on a map, explora has made your journey their priority. Venture safely and comfortably deep into the remoteness to experience the vastness of a desert filled with so many memories waiting for you. Remoteness is not an excuse for compromise: you will still dine on delicious meals, paired with great local wines, and sleep peacefully in exclusive desert camps where the brighest lights shine from high above. The remote ‘camps’ have been designed to fit their location, complementing the environment, with no canvas in sight. They include reinvented containers, and restored shepherd cabins, each with a sleeping area, bathroom with hot (and cold) water and a living área.

The itineraries are so detailed we cannot fit them here, so if the below ‘tasters’ spark your interest please call or email us to find out more. Both trips also operate in the opposite direction.

explora offers two Travesias in The Atacama, both equally impressive and inviting. Both Travesias use large vans to carry you for 6 days between Chile and Argentina, or Chile and Bolivia, and each starts with 3 nights at their lodge in San Pedro de Atacama to fully explore and understand the area.

EXPLORA SAN PEDRO Your journey begins with your greeting in Calama airport for the drive across the desert to the explora lodge in the oasis of San Pedro. The lodge, located in lands formerly owned by ancient Atacameño families, is an oasis itself, with leafy trees and endless views of the Altiplano and the Cordillera de los Andes. Spend a few days exploring the surprising wilderness and cultural wealth of the driest in the world. Tours by van, bike, horse, and on foot are all designed with expertise and care, allowing you to connect with and discover the surroundings and the Atacameño culture.

TRAVESIA EXPLORA UYUNI Cross the Andes to the high plains of Bolivia and be welcomed by the 10,000sqkm Salar de Uyuni, the largest and highest salt pan on earth. Trying to understand its overwhelming immensity is a hopeless task, so we will simply, and happily accept our helplessness, appreciate its beauty and infinity and be thankful for experiencing its magnificence. The Travesia is

HIGHLIGHTS: The Salar de Uyuni, the Tunupa Volcano, the multicolored lagoons, geothermal fields and surreal Altiplanic landscapes.

explora has redefined the concept of travelling to remote areas in South America, by creating in-depth journeys in mobile luxury. Not wanting to be constrained by the walls of its lodges, explora has created Travesias, the ultimate in exploration, and comfort, reminiscent of voyages from yesteryear. The chosen routes allow you to access some of the world’s most breathtaking and isolated landscapes, and with a máximum of 6 people on each trip, you are guaranteed the signature explora service all the way.

TRAVESIA EXPLORA SALTA During this Travesía we will experience the sublime silence and multi-coloured valleys of the Andes, the natural border between Argentina and Chile. Starting from San Pedro de Atacama in Chileyou will travel through the magestic mountain range of the Andes. Experience the gandeur and majesty of the longest mountain range in the world with altitude flirting around 4,000m.

HIGHLIGHTS: The Atacama Desert, the crossing of The Andes, the Calchaquíes Valleys, the Abra del Acay and the colonial town of Cachi in Argentina.
