New England Regional Student Program - Tuition Break • www.nebhe.org/tuitionbreak
2018-19
What is Tuition Break? The New England Board of Higher Education’s Regional Student Program (RSP) Tuition Break enables eligible students to be charged a tuition rate that is significantly lower than the regular out-of-state tuition rate.
Tuition rates and savings vary by institution and are posted on NEBHE’s website. The current average annual savings for a full-time student is $8,000.
How to apply• Select a college that offers a degree
program approved through the RSP Tuition Break.
• Complete the college’s admissions application and declare an RSP Tuition Break degree program as the intended major.
• Once accepted to the college, confirm with admissions that the college has granted RSP Tuition Break status.
How to be eligibleRhode Island residents are eligible for degree programs that are not offered by Rhode Island’s public colleges or universities, and are offered through Tuition Break by public colleges and universities in the other five New England states.
Other ways to be eligible Some colleges allow proximity eligibility – for students who live closer to an out-of-state college. Some community colleges allow eligibility for most or all of their programs.

Thinking about transferring? You can save on tuition when you transfer
from community college to an eligible program at an out-of-state public
four-year institution in New England.
4 in 10 students in New England transfer at least once in their college career.
nebhe.org/tuitionbreak/transfer
Tuition savings
• 9,001 students saved $60 million-plus on their 2016-17 tuition bills
• A full-time student saved an average of $8,000
• Since 1957, New England students and families have saved over $1 billion
Tuition Break allows an eligible student to pay a discounted rate, which is significantly less than out-of-state tuition. The rate is based on a percentage (up to a maximum of 175 percent) of a college’s in-state rate.
FOR EXAMPLE
$23,000
$8,000
$15,000
$10,000
