Tuffet Making $145Date: TBAMeg McKinneyLearn to make a tuffet—as Little Miss Muffet sat upon—in three classes: an introductory class about supplies, fabrics, designs; a sewing class, and furniture assembly. In the second class, you will bring a sewing machine, and learn to sew your fabrics to create your tuffet; third class completes the tuffet and you go home with a finished tuffet, measuring 18-inches diameter x 12-inches high. Tuffets are a creative, functional addition to any living room, den, nursery, cabin, and make great gifts as well. Meg McKinney is Alabama’s only Certified Tuffet Instructor.

(New) Samford Wellness Kitchen Presents: Cook Simply, Eat Healthy, Live Well $325 Tuesdays, 6-8 p.m., Jan. 23-March 6In this seven-week series, participants will learn to prepare a variety of recipes and discover that healthy cooking is easier than they think. They will learn how to feel comfortable in the kitchen, hear the truth about key nutrients and explore how different ethnic cuisines can help prevent disease and lead to good health. Join registered dietitians and chefs and experience how to cook with confidence, eat with joy and live a healthy life.

All classes will be taught by registered dietitians and chefs and will include student participation and recipe sampling. Instructional materials, ingredients and recipes will be included. Adult Group Piano for Beginners $350*Date TBAHave you always wanted to learn to play the piano, but never had the chance? Here is your perfect opportunity. This 60-minute course is great for adult students beginning piano studies. This class meets for 10 weeks. Course requires a 4-student minimum to make.

Children’s Group Piano for Beginners $350* Date TBAChildren experience the joy of learning music in an exciting, interactive group setting for beginners ages 7-10. Students find motivation from making music with others in a social environment. Classes are held in our piano lab using a traditional curriculum enhanced and augmented by modern technology to inspire creativity and a passion for learning. Students learn through engaging hand-on activities as well as through movement, group activities and musical games that prepare the student for a lifetime of making music.Course requires a 4-student minimum to make.

15-Week Courses

Preschool Piano (4–5 years) $396*Date TBAThis class features weekly 30-minute group and 15-minute private lessons. Students learn fundamental skills through shared learning. Instructors work individually with students in private lessons to focus on and review specific pieces and skills. A parent/guardian must attend with the student.

Musicianship Classes (Grades 1-12) $150*Date TBAThis class covers written theory, Alabama Music Teachers Association (AMTA) theory, keyboard harmony and ensemble playing. Students must be enrolled in Academy of the Arts private lessons to take this class.

15-Week Lessons

MusicOur state-of-the-art program is more than 40 years old and has grown to 300 students. Our facility features 12 studios, an assembly room and a piano lab. Most instructors have an advanced degree (M.M. or D.M.A.) in their chosen discipline, providing students the resources they need to reach their full musical potential.

We believe that a solid foundation in reading and counting music creates potential for a lifetime of enjoyment. Our faculty strives to combine fun with the best of current teaching methods. We teach classical, sacred and popular music while working with students to prepare them for a variety of events. Our Masquerade and Jeans Recitals are popular with many students as they offer a more relaxed opportunity to showcase talent and build confidence. Many students participate in local and state auditions and festivals.
