Freedman of Torrance was honored before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for his brilliant war record and for civic leader- ship. A resident of 4007 W. 176th st. and commander of William Ran- dolph Hearts Post No. 9815 Vet- eran of Foreign Wars, Freedman led the Pledge of Allegiance at uesday's meeting of the Board, was guest of Supervisor Bur- ton W. Chace. Freedman is past judge advo- cate of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is also a member of the South Bay Post 184. Serving in the Army from 1941 to 1952, he entered a.s a private in the infantry and emerged a* a captain and was disabled in Korea. Freedman served in World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific with the First Calvary; inrthe occupa- tion of Japan for three years and with the 72nd Tank Battalion, Second Division during the Ko- rean War. The work has been planned and scheduled to minimize traf- fic interference during peak hours. However, Chace suggest- ed that motorists should try to avoid this section of Bataan dur- ing the construction period. Also authorized for improve- ment in the Carson area was the resurfacing of Mr-Helen ave. from 210th st. to Carson st. Chace disclosed that Sepulveda blvd. has just been resurfaced from Avalon blvd. to Main st. This work also included patch- ing and repairing existing pave- ment prior to the application of the new surface. "Recent traffic counts indicate that approximately 15,300 ve- hicles utilize this particular por- tion of Sepulveda blvd. daily," Chace said. The County Road Department has been authorized to recon- struct the pavement on 242nd st. between Narbonne and Eshel- man aves. The completion of this work will decrease road maintenance cost and M»ill provide increased road surface drainage. In addition, the department was authorized to start exten- sion of the pavement on Cypress st. between 250th snd 255th sts. to join curbs and gutters con- structed by adjoining property owners.
