For many of us 2020 was a very difficult year, but if something positive has resulted from the various restrictions we have been under it is the incredible interest generated in gardening and plants. Many people have rediscovered a connection with the natural world through sowing and growing, whether in a garden or on a balcony or patio. This new interest for some and continuing passion for many will provide us all, as seed suppliers, with the opportunity to offer good quality new and existing varieties to gardeners across the world. At Burpee we see our role as encouraging people’s engagement with horticulture and also the fruits of their gardens through innovative recipes and the joy of eating fresh produce.

For 2021 Burpee are very pleased to announce the introduction of a number of outstanding new varieties, not least of which is ‘Party Time’ cucumber, an exceptional and prolific snack type. In tomatoes our new beefsteak variety ‘Burlesque’ will excite new and experienced gardeners alike with its luscious, juicy fruits.

Our new melons, ‘Budgie’ and ‘Lottie’, are fine additions to our range, offering gardeners in the north an opportunity to grow melons in a cold greenhouse. Further south these varieties will produce a stunning outdoor crop. To spice-up our chilli range we have added two unique varieties, ‘Sparky’, with fruit held in clusters, and ‘Reggae’, a compact type plant for use in large pots.

Our blight resistant tomato range continues to attract very positive reviews from as far afield as Czechia and North Wales, showing that our practical approach to disease resistance breeding continues to bear fruit.
