Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc. (HRA) has led the New Britain Asset Building Coalition and has successfully oper-ated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in New Britain since 2004, consist-ently increasing the accessibility and quality of the services. Over the years we have filed a total of 12,825

federal returns resulting in a total of $19,998,347 in Federal refund dollars alone. This is in keeping with the goal of the NB As-set Building Coalition to expand EITC Out-reach and education, increasing the number of families claiming the Earned Income Credit. During 2012, the number of customers served was 2409, the total refund dollars that was brought back to the community was 4,633,731. Based on a basic service fee of $125 per return the total estimated savings in tax preparation costs to our customers for the year is over $225,000.
