It is called Honduras Rosewood because when J.C. Deagan first started using this amazing wood, the country of origin was called British Honduras. In 1973, British Honduras was renamed Belize, but the name “Honduras rosewood” stuck as the common name. Honduras Rosewood is now extremely difficult to purchase and also rapidly rising in cost. Over the past 5 years much of the area where rosewood grows has been illegally poached, and cut and shipped to China. The response of both Belize and Guatemala and the international community has been to highly regulate its cutting. Mexico banned the cutting of Honduras Rosewood in the 1990’s. Michael: Everybody in Tune

For a marimba keyboard, the ideal humidity is between 40% and 50%. We recommend using a de-humidifier if the room has high humidity, otherwise the bars will not resonate properly. Another possible cause for lack of resonance is the temperature in the room where the marimba has been stored. The marimba is designed and

Keep your keyboard sounding greattuned to be in tune between 68 degrees and 72 degrees. If the room is either too warm or too cold, this will cause the marimba to not resonate properly. Finally, if you have ruled out humidity and temperature, you can do this with your customer: play the marimba from both the player side and the audience side. Does the bar sound any different? Next, rotate the marimba 90 degrees and again play it from the player side and the audience side. Does the bar sound any different? If it sounds good in any of these positions then it is the room that is affecting the sound of the bar. If the bar sounds the same in all of these different playing positions, then the bar needs to be replaced. Do you need a bar replaced? Or maybe you want your entire keyboard retuned? At marimba one® , we keep detailed records of all the marimbas we build, including keyboard voicing information. To replace a bar, please use our bar chart

How is it that when you unpack your marimba, it’s always just perfect—no missing hardware, no wobbli-ness, no scratches anywhere on the wood? Thank Michael, marimba one®’s shop assistant. He personal-ly assembles and checks every instrument before getting it ready for shipment. “Since it’s final assembly, I really want it to be perfect, as if I were the musician,” the young Califor-nian says. Michael, who plays guitar, first came to Northern Califor-nia from the Bay Area in 2013 because of his girlfriend. “I love it here because it’s such a forested area, and in my job I work with beautiful wood

also.” The favorite part of his job is putting the frame wood on to the aluminum legs. But most of all, “It’s the environment that’s awe-some here. Everybody is in
