Industries of Interest

• Industries of Interest (IOI) are defined as those industries having either four consecutive quarters of employment growth totaling at least 10 percent (Hi-Growth); or year over year growth of at least 10 percent (Growth); and have an employment gain of at least 25. IOIs by online job postings are limited to the top 100 industries showing year over year growth.

• Purpose is to highlight growing industries. Available at different industry levels. Ensures limited resources are directed towards the maintenance and advancement of growth sectors in the state.

• Find employers by inputting growth industry codes into the PA Employer Database or CWIA’s Employer Search feature on our website or using the employer job search feature under Real-time Labor Market Information on our home page.

• Data sources for Industries of Interest: Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) New Hires, and Help Wanted Online Ads.

PA Unemployment Comp. Activity

• Initial and Continued Claims provides a count of first-time and ongoing unemployment compensation claims.

• Initial Claims are a measure of the number of jobless claims filed by individuals seeking to receive state jobless benefits. Higher initial claims correlate with a weakening economy.

• Continuing claims refer to unemployed workers that qualify for benefits under unemployment insurance.
