Main Objective

o to demonstrating small NPP/mini (10 MWth ~ or approximately 3-4 MWe) that can be operated safely and securely during its lifetime (40 years) Passive Inherent safety

o To implementing the R&D program of integrated new and renewable energy

o To increasing the mastery of new-generation NPP technology that is safe (design, construction, operation and maintenance)

o To Improving the NPP project construction Management

o As a master program for commecial NPP

o Solution future energy independence

o To Support the development of marine (stable electricity supply)

Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional 10

General Objective : o R&D Downstreaming for energy sector to meet

Act no 17 2007

• Capable to generate electricity continuously

• Capable to produce heat for new and renewable R&D

• High Safety Systems o Inherent safety

• Zero evacution (Probability is very small - close to zero) o can be placed in densely populated areas

• Opportunities of using of U, Th as fuel

Reactor R&D

MPPR

• MPPR is an experimental reactor/prototypes that have a very large intangible benefits

14

• Heat application for industry : Coal liquifaction, gasification, hydrogen production, smelter process)

• The commercialization of HTGR will give added value to build marine infrastructure, such as for dock, Post harvest seafood industry (ice factory, irradiator for Preservating of marine products etc) and tourism through stable electricity supply

Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional 15

• Increase the quality of Indonesia Human resources on many competencies

• Supply qualified HR for commercial NPP in Indonesia

• HR need for KebuHTGR (commercial NPP) :

o Engineering Design : 40-60 persons

o Feasibility study Stu: 40-60 persons

o Constructions, professional and technician: 300 persons

o Construction (labor) : 2000 persons

o Operation and Maintenance : 125 persons

1/20/2015 Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional 16

o Give a facility for student and public to learning

o Increase the public acceptance for commecial NPP

o Supply electric for industry that is far from the sea

o Supply electric for PUSPIPTEK area

o Domestic Thorium utilization for future

1/20/2015 17

• Failure MPPR program would reduce public acceptance in the national nuclear power programs

• The possibility of rejection and public complaints during construction and operation

1/20/2015 18

Need support from all parties to make the MPPR program success on

supporting the energy sovereignty
