In spite of the hot weather, I hope all are having a great summer. In case you are wondering what the strange picture is about, it was taken at this year’s AAUW Convention. See below. AAUW Convention San Diego: Baton Rouge was represented as I attended the convention. Anne Taylor and I shared a room and caught up a bit. There were more interesting workshops and events than 1 person can attend. Please note the picture in this newsletter. From left to right- myself, a life size poster board decorated with current AAUW items of Marion Talbot who was one of the original founders of AAUW in 1882 and Debbie Freda LA state board. Some of the decorating was done by Debbie and myself. IRS 501C3: We are continuing to explore the possibility of filing for IRS 501c3 status. Rebecca Triche (our new treasurer) is in charge. Thank you Rebecca!! Sunshine: Karen Groves has graciously volunteer to be our Sunshine person this year. Please contact her with information about member, etc. in need of a bit of Sunshine at [email protected]. Thank you Karen and to all those who help to make our branch successful!! We had very nice attendance at the Annual Meeting (Sat May 9) this year and also at the Planning Meeting on July 12. Thanks to all for making both events successful. The chairs of the various interest groups are including some of the scheduling for future activities. The next Board Meeting will be August 10 (the second Monday) at the Bluebonnet Library at 7:00 pm. Women’s Week is scheduled for September 25 through October 3..We still need a few people to help with our events. If you can participate with one event, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE contact Jan Koellen at [email protected].Thank you!! If you are new to AAUW or just interested in becoming more involved, don’t forget to check the rest of the newsletter for the various activities and signup for those that interest you. To the families of . . . .

Doris Danton who passed away on July 11, 2015 at the age of 92 Doris was an AAUW member for over 50 years and a past President of the Baton Rouge Branch. She taught a library sciences course at LSU for over 25 years. The local branch has donated $50 in her remembrance to the Eleanor Earle Scholarship Fund.

Alma ‘Toni’ Young Carter passed away on August 1, 2015 at the age of 92. Alma worked at Rapides Parish Library for 14 years She was most proud of a vocabulary curriculum she developed in conjunction with the Rapides Parish AAUW, of which she was a proud member for 50 years.

AAUW TWO OTHER ACTIVITIES

for Women! A Week Long Celebration

A Hayes Town will give his ‘Save the Water’ presentation on Thursday, October 1 at the Goodwood Library. The session will be from 10-11 a.m. Aileen Hendricks will present another of her wonderful plays, this time as part of Women’s Week, at Theatre Baton Rouge. Dates are October 2 or 3, from 7-9 pm. The play is The Exact Center of the Universe. For more information, see her website—

We need new members for AAUW. We are increasing in age and we need to have new and younger people to carry forth the torch for Women’s Equality and a woman’s right to be the best she can be and get equal pay for it.
