Why does OUSD believe in Common Core?❖ Students mastering CC math and English
standards will be prepared for higher educationand the demands of the 21st century careers.
❖ The standards require students to consistentlythink critically at a deeper level than ever before.
❖ Historically, students have learned and beenassessed on skills in isolation; the CC standardsrequire students to put multiple skills together tosolve problems and produce work.
