,ay - tae ust a minute to clarify what was said last ni"ht. ' lady felt from what - said

last ni"ht that - am anti one nation. - do hope that - am not anti any nation0 race or !elief.-f perchance - used a nation0 it was only to illustrate a point.

1hat - tried to tell you was this we !ecome what we contemplate. +or it is the nature

of love0 as it is the nature of hate0 to chan"e us into the lieness of that which we

contemplate. Last ni"ht - simply read a news item to show you that when we thin we

can destroy our ima"e !y !reain" the mirror0 we are only foolin" ourselves.

1hen0 throu"h war or revolution0 we destroy titles which to us represent arro"ance and

"reed0 we !ecome in time the em!odiment of that which we thou"ht we had destroyed.

*o today the people who thou"ht they destroyed the tyrants are themselves that whichthey thou"ht they had destroyed.

%hat - may not !e misunderstood0 let me a"ain lay the foundation of this principle.

Consciousness is the one and only reality. 1e are incapa!le of seein" other than the

    contents of our own consciousness

%herefore0 hate !etrays us in the hour of victory and condemns us to !e that which we

condemn. 'll con3uest results in an echan"e of characteristics0 so that con3uerors

!ecome lie the con3uered foe. 1e hate others for the evil which is in ourselves. 5aces0nations0 and reli"ious "roups have lived for centuries in intimate hostility0 and it is the

nature of hatred0 as it is the nature of love0 to chan"e us into the lieness of that which

    we contemplate.

Nations act toward other nations as their own citi6ens act toward each other. 1hen

slavery eists in a state and that nation attacs another it is with intent to enslave. 1hen

there is a fierce economic competition !etween citi6en and citi6en0 then in war with

another nation the o!ect of the war is to destroy the trade of the enemy. 1ars of

domination are !rou"ht a!out !y the will of those who within a state are dominant over

    the fortunes of the rest.

1e radiate the world that surrounds us !y the intensity of our ima"ination and feelin".

(ut in this thirddimensional world of ours time !eats slowly. 'nd so we do not always

o!serve the relationship of the visi!le world to our inner nature.

Now that is really what - meant. - thou"ht - had said it. %hat - may not !e

misunderstood0 that is my principle. 7ou and - can contemplate an ideal0 and !ecome it

!y fallin" in love with it.

#n the other hand we can contemplate somethin" we heartily dislie and !y condemnin"it we will !ecome it. (ut !ecause of the slowness of time in this threedimensional

world0 when we do !ecome what we contemplated we have for"otten that formerly we

set out to worship or destroy it.

%oni"ht8s lesson is the capstone of the (i!le0 so do "ive me your attention. %he most

world in harmony with my inner nature0 that is more than man is willin" to accept. -f

this is true0 to whom would - "o> -f these are the words of eternal life0 - must return tothem0 even thou"h they seem so difficult to di"est.

#nce in an idle interval at sea0 - meditated on =the perfect state0= and wondered what -

would !e were - of too pure eyes to !ehold ini3uity0 if to me all thin"s were pure and

were - without condemnation. 's - !ecame lost in this fiery !roodin"0 - found myself

lifted a!ove the dar environment of the senses. *o intense was feelin" - felt myself a

!ein" of fire dwellin" in a !ody of air. Foices0 as from a heavenly chorus0 with the

ealtation of those who had !een con3uerors in a conflict with death0 were sin"in"0 =&eis risen &e is risen0= and intuitively - new they meant me.

%hen - seemed to !e walin" in the ni"ht. - soon came upon a scene that mi"ht have

!een the ancient @ool of (ethesda for in this place lay a "reat multitude of impotent fol

!lind0 halt0 withered waitin" not for the movin" of the water as of tradition0 !ut

    waitin" for me.

's - came near0 without thou"ht or effort on my part0 they were one after the other0

molded as !y the ,a"ician of the (eautiful. $yes0 hands0 feet all missin" mem!ers

were drawn from some invisi!le reservoir and molded in harmony with that perfectionwhich - felt sprin"in" within me. 1hen all were made perfect the chorus eulted0 =-t is

    finished.=

    - now this vision was the result of my intense meditation upon the idea of perfection0

for my meditations invaria!ly !rin" a!out union with the state contemplated. - had !een

so completely a!sor!ed within the idea that for awhile - had !ecome what -

contemplated0 and the hi"h purpose with which - had for that moment identified myself

drew the companionship of hi"h thin"s and fashioned the vision in harmony with my

    inner nature.

%he ideal with which we are united wors !y association of ideas to awaen a thousand

moods to create a drama in eepin" with the central idea.

,y mystical eperiences have convinced me that there is no way to !rin" a!out the

perfection we see other than !y the transformation of ourselves. 's soon as we succeed

in transformin" ourselves0 the world will melt ma"ically !efore our eyes and reshape

itself in harmony with that which our transformation affirms.

1e fashion the world that surrounds us !y the intensity of our ima"ination and feelin"0and we illuminate or daren our lives !y the concepts we hold of ourselves. Nothin" is

more important to us than our conception of ourselves0 and especially is true of our

concept of the deep0 dimensionally "reater #ne within us.

%hose that help or hinder us0 whether they now it or not0 are the servants of that law

which shapes outward circumstances in harmony with our inner nature. -t is our

conception of ourselves which frees or constrains us0 thou"h it may use material

    a"encies to achieve its purpose.

(ecause life molds the outer world to reflect the inner arran"ement of our minds0 there isno way of !rin"in" a!out the outer perfection we see other than !y the transformation

of ourselves. No help cometh from without: the hills to which we lift our eyes are those

    of an inner ran"e.

-t is thus to our own consciousness that we must turn as to the only reality0 the only

foundation on which all phenomena can !e eplained. 1e can rely a!solutely on the

ustice of this law to "ive us only that which is of the nature of ourselves.

%o attempt to chan"e the world !efore we chan"e our concept of ourselves is to stru""le

a"ainst the nature of thin"s. %here can !e no outer chan"e until there is first an innerchan"e.

    's within0 so without.

    - am not advocatin" philosophical indifference when - su""est that we should ima"ine

ourselves as already that which we want to !e0 livin" in a mental atmosphere of

"reatness0 rather than usin" physical means and ar"uments to !rin" a!out the desired

    chan"es.

    $verythin" we do0 unaccompanied !y a chan"e of consciousness0 is !ut futile

readustment of surfaces. &owever we toil or stru""le0 we can receive no more than our

concepts of *elf affirm. %o protest a"ainst anythin" which happens to us is to protest

a"ainst the law of our !ein" and our ruler ship over our own destiny.

%he circumstances of my life are too closely related to my conception of myself not to

have !een formed !y my own spirit from some dimensionally lar"er storehouse of my

!ein". -f there is pain to me in these happenin"s0 - should loo within myself for the

cause0 for - am moved here and there and made to live in a world in harmony with my

    concept of myself.

-f we would !ecome as emotionally aroused over our ideas as we !ecome over our

dislies0 we would ascend to the plane of our ideal as easily as we now descend to the

    level of our hates.
