WAC RECOGNITIONThe strong start has given Nevada the opportunity to be honored by the WAC with Verizon Player of theWeek honors four times this season. Both of the senior captains have been honored this year with TahneeRobinson winning the honor three times (Nov. 15, Dec. 13 and Feb. 14) and Shavon Moore winning one(Nov. 29). The Wolf Pack has had a bit of a drought in the award for the last couple of seasons. Nevadadid not receive a single Player of the Week honor through all of last season and the last time previous tothis year was back on Dec. 1, 2008 (Dellena Criner).

In addition the same two players won WAC postseason awards. Moore was named the Defensive Playerof the Year as well as to the All-Defensive Team and All-WAC first-team. Robinson was also named to theAll-WAC first-team. Robinson was also named to the WAC All-Tournament team after averaging 29 ppg inthe Pack’s two games of the tournament.

REBOUNDING ADVANTAGEDating back to the beginning of the 2008-09 season, Nevada has out-rebounded or tied its opponents inrebounding in 51 games. Last season, Nevada out-rebounded its opponents in nine straight games fromDecember 4 until January 13. OFFENSIVE PRODUCTIONNevada has recorded its best season in program history, which can, no doubt, be attributed to the team’sstrong offensive play. The Wolf Pack has managed to shoot 42.2 percent from the floor and 33.2 percentfrom three-point range. In fact, Nevada has the fourth best scoring offense in the WAC with 67.9 pointsper game, with two players in the top ten of individual scoring. Three times this year the Wolf Pack hasnearly broken 60 percent shooting from the floor, going 59.3 against Arizona, 58.5 against Ball State and54.4 against Weber State.

MOVEMENT IN THE SCHOOL RECORD BOOKThis season is proving to be one of the best in school history so far, and Nevada players are making indi-vidual marks all over the school’s record book.

WOLF PACK PLAYS IT CLOSEAfter defeating Saint Mary’s 65-62 Thrusday, Nevada is 10-3 in games that were decided by five points orless. In reality, the Wolf Pack finished fourth. Nevada had two playersnamed to the Preseason first- and second-teams in both polls. The WAC coaches named senior TahneeRobinson and Shavon Moore to the first-team while the media also had Robinson first-team but Mooresecond-team.Fresno State and Louisiana Tech were tabbed as the first and second place teams in both polls as well, respectively. Fresno State's Jaleesa Ross was named the Preseason WAC Player of the Year.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTWhen Nevada was the only team to finish a perfect 2-0 at the Caribbean Classic, it was the first time theWolf Pack had consecutive road wins since Jan. 13-16, 2010, at Utah State (69-58) and at Hawai`i (80-62).Nevada has 8 wins on the road this year, and only four of the 18 wins last year came in away games.

PACK TOUGH TO BEAT AT HOMEHead Coach Jane Albright has shown her coaching abilities in her short tenure as the Wolf Pack’s leader.Albright compiled a 35-30 record in her first two seasons with Nevada, but managed to go 23-11 at homein that time. In her first season leading the Wolf Pack, Albright coached the team to its first win over aranked opponent in program history when the Pack stunned then No. 7 Louisville by beating them 85-82at the 2008 John Ascuaga’s Nugget Classic. This year, Nevada is 11-4 at home after going a perfect 7-0 atLawlor in the non-conference season. Overall in the past three years, Nevada has compiled a 31-15 recordin Reno.

ROBINSON ON FIRESenior Tahnee Robinson has quickly validated why her teammates selected her as team captain this year.Robinson is currently averaging 22.2 points per game, shooting 45.2 percent from the floor with 86 three-pointers. She has three times been named the WAC Verizon Player of the Week. Robinson has found a wayto dominate as a scorer in every game this season either from beyond the arc or, if the shots aren’t falling, driving and scoring from the paint. She has led all scorers in a game in 26 of the 30 games she has playedin this season. She broke the 1,000-point career scoring mark after setting a career-high with 35 againstIdaho in the WAC Tournament quarterfinal round.

ROBINSON’S HONORS ADD UPIn addtion to her three WAC Player of the Week honors and All-WAC first-team nod, Robinson’s nationalaccolades have begun to roll in. She just returned from New York City where she was one of just five final-ists for the prestigous Sullivan Award given to the nation’s top amateur athelte. The Sullivan Award isknow as the “Oscars” of the sports world and is older than the Heisman. In addtion, Robinson has alsobeen named all-region from the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association, the first step to making the All-America team announced in April.

JOHNSON’S POINT GUARD EFFECTIVENESSPoint guard Amanda Johnson is proving herself as one of the most improved players from last year’s team. After attending the Dick DiVenzio/Dena Evans Point Guard College in La Jolla, Calif. last summer, Johnsonhas taken control as the team’s starting point guard. Johnson is in just her second season in the starter’sspot, but has already shown impressive leadership abilities. Currently, she tops the WAC in assists pergame (4.6) and ranks second in assist/turnover ratio (1.72). She played one of her best games for the WolfPack against Arizona on Dec. 2, scoring a career-high six field goals in nine attempts while on her way to aseason-high, career-tying 14 points.

STELLAR SEASON FOR KAYLA WILLIAMSJunior Kayla Williams has become Nevada’s predominant post presence, especially with Shavon Mooresidelined by injury. While Moore served as a finesse paint player, Williams is the Pack’s muscle. Williamsscored her first of eight double-doubles of the season against Pepperdine earlier this year with 16 pointsand a career-high 20 rebounds. She is currently seventh in the WAC in blocks with 0.87 a game and rankssixth in rebounding (7.6). Williams also broke the 500-point career mark after scoring 12 points at Hawai`ion Jan. 31. She now sits at 641 points and 564 rebounds.

WARD VERSATILE AND BACK IN THE STARTING LINEUPAfter a quiet start to her senior season, Johnna Ward has proven to be an important bench player for thePack. Ward has developed impressively as a defensive guard with a nose for the ball. While strong defen-sively, Ward is also one of the team’s best distance sharp-shooters with 25 three-pointers this season, 162on her career. Her versatility seems to know no bounds as she has also been used as an effective pointguard. Ward was brought in to run the point when foul problems early on against Ball State causedAmanda Johnson and backup Holly Jones to sit early. She stepped in with a seamless transition to leadNevada. She is currently the third-best career scorer on the team, currently sitting at 889 points. She rotat-ed the starting position with Nicole Williams early in the season, serving more as a scorer compared toWilliams who serves more as a rebounder.

Ward sat out during Nevada’s games agaist Utah State (L, 79-73) and San Jose State (W, 66-47; W, 65-36),and saw limited minutes against Hawai’i (W, 69-42) Feb. 12 before returning to the bench, after taking atough hit at Hawai’i (W, 75-62) Jan. 31. While scrambling for a loose ball, Ward made contact with Hawai’i’sBreanna Arbuckle sending Ward into a row of fans sitting courtside.

HAMMOND A KEY RESERVESenior Marissa Hammond has made quiet contributions to the Wolf Pack’s success all season. Hammond’s.500 field goal percentage is among the highest on the team, making her a valuable asset off the bench. She is also working her way in the Nevada record books, ranking first in games played (134) and seventh incareer field goal percentage (.483). Hammond broke the 500 career-points mark (537) Feb. 5 at San JoseState when the Pack defeated the Spartans 66-47 and sits at 323 rebounds.

KATE KEVORKEN MAKES STARTING ROTATIONA junior-transfer from Northern Colorado, Kate Kevorken has made a place for herself in Nevada’s startinglineup with the loss of senior Shavon Moore. Kevorken is a solid forward with great feet and an effectivethree-point shot. She adds options to the Pack’s scoring offense given her ability to hit the three and postup under the basket. She has nailed 17 three-pointers this year and averages 4.2 rebounds per game. Shehad an incredible career game against Illinois State in the Carribean Classic where she scored 21 pointswith 9-14 shooting and two threes.
