School News

Typing ClubThis year, Neutral Bay Public School has purchased a subscription to an online touch-typing program called ‘Typing Club’ for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. This is based on our desire to prepare our students to be 21st century learners. We selected an online program to allow students to access the website both at home and at school.

Typing Club consists of explicit lessons based on finger placement, along with videos and games to consolidate these skills. Students have loved learning to touch type at home and at school. So far, over 500 students from Neutral Bay have spent a combined 10 days and 6 hours on the website!

In just 4 weeks, we have seen improvement in our students ability to touch type with speed and accuracy.

Mr W MacInnes

Stars of the WeekThis week, Daniel B (6S) was awarded North Shore Junior Cricket Association U12 Division 3 Batsman of the year, with 294 runs at an average of 42. His all-round efforts earned Daniel second place in Mosman Cricket Club’s Junior Cricketer of the Year Award. Congratulations Daniel.

Kindergarten News Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2)Year 1 have had such a fantastic Term 1 and we are looking forward to coming back in Term 2!

In history, we have been learning about the Past and the Present. We were fortunate enough to visit Vaucluse House on an excursion. It was like we turned back time as we learnt about family life in the olden days. Students were able to play olden day games, wear old fashioned clothes and even do household chores just like servants!

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from Jillian Skinner, who taught us about what Neutral Bay was like in the past. The children loved asking her questions about what Neutral Bay School used to look like.

Kindergarten had such a fun day on Monday for Letterland Day. We celebrated learning all the letters of the alphabet. We dressed up as something starting with the letter of our first or last name. We read some alphabet books, made some letter ‘Y’ crafts and danced to some alphabet songs. We shared a picnic and enjoyed watching the Letterland movie. Here are some photos of KSV in their fantastic outfits.

Stage 2 News (Years 3 & 4)

Stage 3 News (Year 5 & 6)

High ropes was a thrilling experience. We went on a giant zipline, walked on a tightrope, clambered across a wobbly wooden staircase and scrambled through an elevated tunnel, all whilst wearing a blue safety harness. It was an event I will remember forever! Anna W

I enjoyed Commando, because it was very exciting walking around in the dark with your friends. We were unprepared for the lurking teachers, which made it even more thrilling! Daniel R

I loved raft building the most, because we all got to build rafts from scratch. It was great because we got to use our imagination and problem solve within our group. The funniest thing was when the rafts collapsed as soon as people sat on them in the water. Even if your raft fell apart, you had to jump in and race the other teams while pulling your collapsed raft behind you. Noah G

3S has had a busy term! We have enjoyed making new friends and working together in literacy and mathematics groups. This term in Geography, we have been learning about Australia. We have looked at our map and are learning to name the states and capital cities of our country. As part of this unit, 3S enjoyed making artworks of one of Australia’s landmarks – Sydney Harbour. Look at the fantastic artworks we created.

The Stage 2 teachers wish all the students and families a happy Easter and holidays.

From 3 April – 5 April, 5T had a fabulous time at the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens. They challenged their comfort zones on the High Ropes and Giant Swing, had a blast rolling and running down the sand dunes near Jimmy’s Beach, and enjoyed splashing in the water and building sandcastles.

Camp was a wonderful opportunity for 5T to consolidate friendships and make lots of new friends with other students in Year 5. It also gave them the chance to showcase their leadership and organisational skills, show empathy for and encourage others in different activities and above all have lots of fun!

Here are a few of their favourite memories:

My favourite experience at camp was the Giant Swing. It was very nerve-wracking at first, because when you pull the red rope you drop so suddenly. However, then it was like flying over the lake and above the trees. It was great fun! Nathanael G
