Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2)
Year 1 has had a very exciting fortnight. Last Monday 1A and 1W ventured to Vaucluse House where we learnt all about
the lives of the Wentworth family who lived there 150 years ago.
On Wednesday, Stage 1 were dressed to impress as their favourite book characters. Year 1 and Year 2 spent the day
rotating between classrooms exploring some fascinating literature.
On Monday this week, Stage 1 was entertained by a puppet performance from Camp Quality. The children enjoyed
learning about Kylie’s superpower of positivity through her cancer journey.
In class this week, Year 1 are exploring the language of resolutions in narratives. We are also investigating
multiplication and 3D objects. In 1A we will be printing our artworks inspired by Margaret Preston and will finish our very
long narratives. We can’t wait to show off all our work in our classroom.

5K’s Trip to ‘Science Unleashed’
On the 13 August Year 5 went on an excellent excursion to the Australian Museum in the
city where they participated in ‘Science Unleashed’. There were numerous workshops and
interesting exhibits and galleries to see and explore. These activities included a workshop
on light and colour, ‘May the force be with you’ on forces, a ‘Myth Busters’ type show and
the Science Expo. It was a jam packed and fun filled day. The children thoroughly enjoyed
and participated in everything with great enthusiasm and energy. They also came away
with new thoughts, ideas and knowledge on all things science and scientific.

It was a very excited William Murray (6C) and sister Lucy (pictured), who marched onto The Voice film set last Sunday.
The family had “an absolute blast” at the show and even had a chance to sit in the judges’ seats for a photo. “We were
happy to contribute to Neutral Bay after an amazing two years with Ms. Carnegie - we have been incredibly lucky to

Coming towards the end of Term 3, the children across all three bands are enjoying learning new pieces of music and the satisfaction of making a great sound together. You can help your musician by playing a wide variety of music at home, particularly music featuring your child's instrument. It is also a good idea to leave the instrument out of the case in a prominent position (provided it is safe and won't get damaged - instrument stands are good for this). Your child is much more likely to pick it up and play for fun on a regular basis if they don't have to find it and then assemble it. Open Band Rehearsals See dates below for Open Band Rehearsals at the morning rehearsals. We invite all parents to come along in a very informal gathering and: • enjoy hearing the progress the bands are making • learn some musical terminology! • have an insight into the group dynamics • say hi to other band parents • show the children your support and • have a cup of tea or coffee while listening Thinking of buying a New Jupiter Instrument? We have a discount voucher from the NSW Band Festival. If anyone is thinking of buying a new Jupiter instrument, the voucher offers a discount of 30% from the RRP at Turramurra Music, valid until 31 October 2015. Please contact Claudia Stephens ([email protected]) if you are interested - first in best dressed. It is valid for one instrument. Key Band Dates
