Not all customers of Theo Beutinger are se-cretive, but he simply can't talk about someorders, for example, about the high-gloss,black painted, bizarrely shaped parts stan-ding around in the open depot at the mo-ment. They are part of a large anniversarymachine, which an international agriculturalmachinery maker is treating to an especiallyfine dress of paint. (...)

High demands

(...) A year ago, operations converted to theStandoblue base coat system of the Wupper-tal paint manufacturer Standox. They were ini-tially assisted in the process for three days bythe Standox application technician HeinzDumke. "We are really managing very wellwith Standoblue. Due to our special custo-mers, but also to our own ambition, we haveachieved a high level of quality."

The days in which "a lot of material helps alot" are long past. This is because quality andcost aspects play a much too important role.Paint remainders are kept to be used forminor repairs, for example, to mirrors. But the

saving starts much earlier. Namely, in that re-mainders are avoided from the beginning.(...)

Brilliant effects

Theo Beutinger is also charmed by the colorsthemselves. He likes the better effect forma-tion and the attractive effect structure of thebase coat system. "It makes a more brilliantimpression on the whole", in Beutinger's opi-nion. "Standoblue is ideal in terms of spraya-bility. And, with a few exceptions, the paintingin is problem-free. And the color accuracy",he emphasises, "is significantly better thanthat of earlier base coat generations." (...)

At the Beutinger GmbH we get along with low quantities of materials. Paint remainders are reused and increasingly avoided entirely.

Standox application technicians initially accompanied the conversion process to the new base coat for three days.

Theo Beutinger likes the better effect formation and the attractive effect structureof the Standoblue base coat system.

(...)Now, 53 years later, the history of the twocompanies is being expanded by a chapter:The decision makers of Carrosserie NeuenhofAG have allowed themselves to be convincedof the advantages of Standoblue and intro-duced the new base coat system into opera-tions in January 2011. work with another product. "The color accu-racy of Standoblue is above average, be-cause a wet comparison is also possible.

More rapid drying through also offers usmuch greater economic efficiency", the com-pany head summarises the Standoblue bene-fits. And Felix Munoz, head of the paint shop,praises not only the exemplary spot repair ca-pability, but also the high level of color accu-racy, which would allow him and his paintersto paint more at the edge. It is also a fact thatthe interplay of the color measuring device

and Standoblue functions exceptionally well.(...) These are all quality aids that the Aargaubodywork company no longer wants to dowithout: "We are Swissgarant-certified, whichmeans, among other things, that we providea guarantee for our repair work for the life ofthe vehicle. For that to work, we need only ex-ceptional products in every respect".

This functions without problems for older vehicles or those withoutcolor code: the interplay between the color measuring device andStandoblue.The first step involves color classification.

In Vienna one would speak of a bench-mark; at the automotive regulars' tables in theWaldviertel you can hear the awe everyw-here: "Have you heard, Kölbl is using some-thing new again." So it's no wonder that theLehndorf "automotive institution", with its threepainters and two inquisitive apprentices, wasthe first Standox partner in the north of LowerAustria to make use of the automotive repairpaint Standoblue. A look at the practice –Operational experiences with a new painting technology

The SERVIND, s. r. o. company launcheda new series of base coats under the de-signation Standoblue Basecoat ontothe Czech market early this year. (...)We were interested in hearing moreabout the first direct experiences withthese paints.

This is why we spoke with employees of oneof the most demanding customers – the Mer-cedes- Benz brand paint shop in Prague-Stodůlky. (...) We spoke with the heads of thebody construction department and the paintshop, Pavel Hrubý and master painter KarelHanka.

Standoblue is viewed as a revolutionarypaint. What are your practical experi-ences?

(...) The main advantage of Standoblue is itsclearly simpler usage. (...) Standoblue is lessvulnerable to fogging and dripping, and is onthe whole significantly more resistant to appli-cation errors. The quick ventilation makes itpossible for the painter to very quickly under-

take correction directly in the cabin when dirtfalls onto the base coat. (...) Easy usage is joi-ned by another advantage: the paint is signi-ficantly less sensitive to temperature and airhumidity. (..)

What do the painters think of the newpaint?

They can work with the new paint much moreeasily, and much more quickly. Painters aregenerally quite conservative and usually notvery enthusiastic about innovations of anykind. However, in this case the reaction wasvery positive. (...)

Up to now you have only spoken positi-vely about the new paint. Have you alsofound weaknesses?

We haven't found any weaknesses, but wehave already discovered one property of thispaint: Standoblue requires precise prepara-tion of the surface. (...)

Increased productivity originatesfrom the right paint

The Métiffiot car body company in a suburbof Valence (26) is viewed as a model plant.The long-established family-owned companymoved five years ago into a small automotivecity, where it set itself up on an area of 6,000m2. (...) On a covered area of 2,000 m2, 37employees work in the car body and main-tenance area, which looks after 30 to 35 re-pair orders daily, of which approximately 20

involve bodywork and painting. (...). "Wemust become more versatile in our specialty,the passenger vehicle area", explains Sté-phane Métiffiot, head of car body operati-ons.

Focus on customer satisfaction(...) Today the operations have an annual tur-nover of 3.8 million Euros, of which 70 per-cent originate from the car body area. "Theworking conditions are growing increasinglymore difficult, especially due to the pressurebeing applied by insurers. Nonetheless, wehave to adapt by making use of all means toincrease our performance", he continues.One solution is the usage of the new Stando-blue base coat system from Standox. (...)After six months the decision makers of thecar body operations are not yet able to pre-cisely estimate the returns of the product. Theproduct is in fact 15 to 20 percent more ex-pensive. At the same time "we save time andspace for repairs. We require less paint andusage is simpler, even though another processis required", he emphasises. This example de-monstrates the importance of the right paintfor the productivity of a shop. (...)

As any collision repair shop owner or mana-ger knows, you have to do quality work, youhave get it done on time and you have tomake money doing it. That’s why the CollisionCenter at Fred Haas Toyota in Spring,TX,chose to switch their paint to Standoblue.When considering their paint options, Colli-sion Director Jeff Debner noted that Stando-blue was “the clear winner. Debner believes that whatmakes his repair center dif-ferent from their competitorsis that their quality workman-ship is “head-and-shoul dersabove the average repai-rer.” He added that all repai-red vehicles undergo arigorous quality inspectionbefore being released to thecustomer. (...)

This emphasis on quality led Debner to ex-plore the option of switching to Standoblue.In addition to Standox commitment to coloraccuracy, excellent sandability and efficiencyin application, Standoblue basecoats blendseamlessly with existing Standox refinishingsystems. To assist refinishers with finding theright color quickly, Standox also offers a va-riety of color tools in a reliable range of bothdigital and conventional tools. Standox always strives to ensure that custo-mers receive their full support when conver-ting to Standoblue so that the transition is assmooth as possible, and Debner confirmstheir success; “it was a pretty seamless transi-tion... we learned the differences about theproduct and it was an even flow to transitionto Standoblue.” (...)
