Welcome On October 7th you will have the opportunity to hear from our speaker Tammy Heermann on the topic ‘Networks that Work’. This interactive keynote is based on a Women of Influence Advancement program designed and delivered by Lee Hecht Harrison Knightsbridge.

You have the opportunity to engage in networking prior to the dinner and speaker portion. To get the most out of the session, we encourage you to do the short pre-work below prior to attending the event.

Pre-Work Part 1: The Self Assessment

On the next page is a quick networking self-assessment that is divided into questions on the mindset required, the skills and the deliberate practices of a great networker. Complete the self-assessment and jot down a few notes on strengths and areas of focus moving forward.

Part 2: The Challenge

Research shows that being intentional about building networks, and knowing how to confidently leverage them, is critical for success. Read the bullets below and see which description fits you best and follow the challenge posed.

• If you are a confident networker and you work the room with ease, you probably already have a plan for who you want to meet. Or maybe you’ll show up and wing it after seeing who is there. Afterall, this is easy stuff for you. Your challenge for the event is to focus your time on having fewer but deeper conversations. Also seek out those individuals who appear less comfortable and invite them into the conversation. Make introductions and connect others. Slow down, make connections and bring others along.

• If you are not a comfortable networker, you likely can’t wait for dinner to begin or cling to the same smiling faces at every event. Your challenge is to make a concerted effort to meet 3 new people. Take a deep breathe, walk up to strangers confidently and introduce yourself. Prepare a few questions in advance of the evening and just try to get to know people. Relax and have fun with it.

• If you are somewhere inbetween these two extremes, set a deliberate goal for yourself for the networking portion. How many people do you want to connect with? What asks do you have of the network? What information, insight, expertise can you offer?

Networking Self-Assessment Complete the self-assessment below, answering each question on a scale of 1-4, where 1 = Not at all, and 4 = Absolutely. When you are finished, add up your score, and review the scoring guide below to interpret your results.

Question Rating Scale: 1 = Not at all 2 = Somewhat 3 = Pretty much 4 = Absolutely
