1. Vista Is Incomplete• Microsoft is planning its first service pack • Microsoft is seeking input from users • Vista probably won't be ready until that
first service pack version.
2. Windows XP Isn't Obsolete• Windows XP is solid, well-understood and
functional • It will continue to be well supported• Microsoft has committed to at least
another seven more years of XP support• Microsoft plans Service Pack 3 next year.
3.Novell• Novell client for Vista is not available yet• Can’t print on the Network Printers• Can’t see the Shared Drive
4. VPN • VPN is required for connection from home• Monash University advises using Windows
XP until more applications are compatible with Vista
5. Learning Curve• Vista is different from Windows XP • Many of the tools are the same or
similar, but there is still a lot to learn• For many implementing and learning
Vista may not be worth it right now
6. Upgrading Hardware• Old computers may not run Vista• Video will be of low quality• Probably require new computers to run Vista
7. Driver Support• Many drivers are not available yet• Hardware Video & Audio
8. Applications• Many applications are still under
development• Anti-virus• Backup and security software
9. Notebook Battery Drain• Vista requires more power to run• It will drain Notebook batteries faster
due to the additional Video processing• Consider this before upgrading
10. Extra Charge $$• Vista is not included in the Network Services
SLA• All Vista support will be charged.
