Country News: BelgiumAG Insurance Introduces a New Income Protection Solution

accidents that occurred during the career break. Benefits will be payable once the career break has ended (provided the qualifying period has been served).

• Mental disorders:

- AG Insurance will continue to provide unrestricted coverage for the following mental disorders: bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, dissociative disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. AG Insurance is currently the only insurer on the Belgian market to provide unlimited cover up to age 67.

- In cases where occupational disability leave is the result of a depression or another mental disorder (including burnout, CFS and fibromyalgia), the replacement income will be paid out over a maximum period of two years, whether consecutive or intermittent. The two-year period will be extended to include inpatient stays in a psychiatric hospital or in the psychiatric ward of a general hospital, provided that admission to such facilities occurred before the two-year period expired.

- For burnout and stress-related disorders, AG Insurance also provides pro-active and personalised reintegration services. Your staff member will get all the support and guidance needed to quickly return to work in the best possible circumstances. AG Insurance is the only insurer in Belgium to offer these services. And what is more, it’s free of charge.

- As time is critical to the success of a return-to-work program, AG Insurance now requires

occupational disability claims to be reported within 30 days.

New Income Care Product

AG Insurance is pleased to offer you an income protection solution that reflects the latest trends in society and which is compliant with the new statutory requirements.

Rest assured, the current advantages mentioned below will remain unchanged:

• Comprehensive basic coverage: pays out a regular replacement income in the event of time off due to illness or an accident. In addition, statutory post-delivery maternity leave and incapacity as a result of an accident resulting from a non-remunerated sports activity are also eligible for coverage!

• A number of options to choose from depending on your needs and your budget, such as length of qualifying period, indexation of benefits, scope of coverage and selected package.

So what exactly has changed?

• Plans now mature at age 67 in accordance with the new statutory retirement age. This means that your current cover proactively takes into account the future increase of the statutory pension age. AG Insurance is the only insurer in Belgium with this offer.

• From now on, standard coverage applies as well during some career breaks. During a career break, the staff member will remain, subject to certain conditions, enrolled in the plan, and no additional medical formalities will be required once he/she returns to work. In addition, no exclusions will apply to illnesses and

Free Personalised Integration

AG Insurance offers your absent staff member a free reintegration program for stress-related health conditions. In our performance-oriented society, in which burnout and depression are increasingly taking their toll, your employees are at greater risk of being out of action for an extended period.

Thanks to AG Insurance’s reintegration program, your staff member immediately obtains exactly the attention he/she needs.

AG Insurance’s reintegration program increases the likelihood that your employee will be able to return to work quickly. This is important not only for your business, but also for the individual staff member: the longer anyone remains at home without any social interaction with his/her colleagues, the higher the barrier to return to the work environment. In 50% of the cases, someone who is absent for 3 to 6 months returns to the same employer. If the employee’s absence takes longer than a year, the likelihood of his/her return declines to 10%.

So enabling a swift return to work is a win-win for you and your employee!

How does the reintegration program work?

The reintegration program offered by AG Insurance is a fast response process. With the help of qualified external partners, specialised in treating stress-related conditions, they have one aim: to offer your employee the right support.

The reintegration program is always designed in consultation with your employee and it runs through

various stages:

Diagnosis and start of process

AG Insurance’s medical department manages and evaluates your absent employee’s file, and assesses the required reintegration program. Based on the latter, the file is forwarded to their experts in stress-related conditions.

AG Insurance’s partners then meet with your staff member to work out a tailor-made reintegration process together. First, the diagnosis is considered, as well as the possible actions that your employee may have taken already and the expected progression of the illness.

Personal support

Following the diagnosis and prognosis, the reintegration program starts. For this, AG Insurance brings in genuine experts who take care of every aspect of the support provided to your employee. The process involves a number of phases, depending on his/her needs.

1. Recovery and stabilisation

Your employee must, first and foremost, rest and take a break away from all pressures. This usually involves a combination of psychotherapy, relaxation therapy and exercise.

2. Reactivation

During this phase, the emphasis is on analysing the personality profile. The employee’s strengths and vulnerabilities are assessed, and factors which boost

or sap his or her energy are identified. Next, an action plan is developed covering communication (assertiveness and awareness of non-verbal communication), setting boundaries and how to deal with criticism.

3. Return to work

If AG Insurance’s specialised partners feel that the employee is ready to resume work, they will discuss with you how best to support your employee’s return-to-work. Can your employee return to the same job, or are adjustments to his or her duties required? Can he or she immediately resume full-time work or is part-time work a better option? These questions are discussed with you and your employee, so that your employee can make a fresh start in the best possible circumstances.

4. Follow-up

This phase is designed to avoid any relapse and better equip the employee to deal with future stimuli or events that can trigger stress.

) Benefits for your employee:

The constant requests from various lenders were starting to take their toll on Lucy’s health, both mentally and physically. She was suffering from anxiety and depression and did not know how to get her financial situation stable again. It was at this point she decided to contact EmployeeCare and speak to a professional about her problems.

The root of the problem

The starting point to helping Lucy was to establish the reason she was spending outside of her means. Lucy revealed that her hours at work had been reduced, but she had not curbed her spending habits despite the drop in income. The reduced hours gave Lucy a feeling of worthlessness and contributed heavily towards her now very low self-esteem. The only time she felt valued and respected was when she was being served, which resulted in her continuous spending.

Getting back on track

The next step was to assure Lucy that she can feel valued and appreciated without the need for spending. Once she had realised this, a plan was devised as to how she could start to repay the debts. By the end of her counselling sessions, Lucy had regained her lost confidence and was able to adjust her spending patterns and lifestyle to suit her income.

EmployeeCare

EmployeeCare is offered as part of Canada Life’s Group Income Protection product. EmployeeCare offers information and counselling on a wide range of personal and work-related topics such as debt management, family relations, health problems or career advice. It is an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which is free for employees to use.

What is Employee Care?

EmployeeCare provides confidential telephone, e-mail and face-to-face counselling, legal and medical advice, as well as an online Health Gateway to help track individuals’ fitness and wellbeing.

Who can use it?

All UK-based employees of employers that have taken out a Group Income Protection policy with Canada Life can access EmployeeCare. This is regardless of whether they are covered by the policy or not.

Case Study: Lucy’s Story

An ever increasing debt

When Lucy’s financial problems became increasingly difficult to manage, she decided to ask for help. She had mortgage repayments to keep up with, as well as acquiring £25,000 worth of debt on credit and store cards.

AXA PPP healthcare is partnering with Canada Life to provide the following Support Services: EmployeeCare, Bereavement Counselling and the Probate Helpline. Canada Life’s relationships with their other service providers, including their Second Medical Opinion Service (Best Doctors) and their Personal Nurse Service (RedArc), will remain the same.

Bereavement Counselling

Bereavement is a highly personal issue which can affect people in a variety of ways. This service offers support as part of Canada Life’s Group Life Assurance product to help employees and their colleagues, or the family of a deceased employee, at what can be a difficult time.

What is Bereavement Counselling?

Bereavement Counselling offers unlimited access to a 24/7 bereavement helpline and up to four face-to-face or structured telephone sessions with a qualified counsellor at an emotionally challenging time.

Who can use it?

All employees who are covered under a Canada Life Group Life Assurance policy or the immediate family of a deceased member can make use of the service. “Immediate family” can include a spouse, partner, registered civil partner, parent, sibling, child over 16 or carer. If the caller is in the UK, access to the service is completely free.

Case Study: Gillian’s Story

A difficult time

Following the death of Gillian’s husband, she had been struggling to come to terms with the reality of losing a loved one for several months. Usual daily routines, such as washing, were becoming difficult both mentally and physically.

Needing help

Grieving and aspects of depression are a normal response to bereavement; however Gillian was unable to come to terms with her loss even after several months. She needed help and advice on how to deal with the death of her husband, so she decided to get in touch with the Bereavement Counselling service.

Telephone counselling was her preferred method of communication. She was encouraged to offload all feelings she had, positive or negative towards her husband’s death. The key was ensuring Gillian knew she was in a safe environment during her counselling sessions, as this enabled an open and honest conversation. The more she talked with the counsellor, the better she felt.

Moving forward

It was explained that what Gillian was experiencing is completely normal and the grieving process can vary hugely from person to person. After eight thorough sessions, Gillian’s mood and attitude had dramatically improved. Although the pain would never fully go away, she learned to control this and had the confidence to regain some normality in her life.

IGP Network News - March 2017 IGP Network News - March 2017

During meetings with your local subsidiaries, IGP Network Partners have the opportunity to inform them about how IGP works and the possible advantages to the subsidiary of IGP participation. These meetings also enable your subsidiaries to gain market knowledge about what employee benefits plans their competitors are offering and what is typical in their market. It furthermore enables information about your operations’ current employee benefits plans and how they are financed to be gathered on your behalf.

If you would like an IGP Network Partner to meet with your local colleagues, we urge you to contact your IGP Account Manager and provide the contact details of your local representative so that we might set up a meeting. Naturally, we will keep you informed of the results of each meeting and provide you with information on the current employee benefits plan(s) of your subsidiary and on any quotations that ensue.

Ideally, you should send your local management an e-mail to encourage them to meet with IGP.

IGP devotes many resources to enable IGP Account Managers to join the representatives of the IGP Network Partners during these local meetings, as this enables us to provide further context about the broader global relationship with your

organisation.

Below you will find an overview of the 2017 trips planned by the responsible IGP contact for the respective countries or regions.
