Boeing MD-83 equipment. Miami-Dade County mayor Carlos Gimenez said: "InselAir Aruba’s
service to MIA furthers Miami-Dade County’s access to our neighbors in the Caribbean,
solidifying our gateway status to the region. We welcome InselAir Aruba and look forward to
their continued presence in our community." American Airlines and Surinam Airways also
operate on the route.
United Airlines closes ORD & IAD service gap.
United Airlines extended its ORD and IAD service to AUA to include September and
October 2014 as well, completing now the year-round service using the Boeing B737-700.
Aruba Airport is surely thankful and happy for this increase in service, especially for its
Chicago and Washington visitors. United is the sole operator on both routes.
United Airlines resumes Houston to Aruba service
United Airlines resumes its IAH-AUA route for the months of June, July and August of
2014. Service to continue starting this upcoming winter period (Dec 2014). This is great
news for Aruba Airport, which is currently seeking to lock down more mid-west service to
the island. United is currently the sole operator on this route using its B737-900, with 1
weekly service on Saturdays.
Aruba Airport welcomes first B787 “Dreamliner”
Thomson Airways arrived on May 6th, 2014 with the first B787-800 aircraft on the island.

salute. Thomson operates the aircraft on its LGW-AUA route.
Copa Airlines increases from 7 to 11 weekly flights on PTY-AUA route
Copa Airlines increased Panama City to Aruba service from 7 weekly frequencies to 11.
Aruba started benefiting from the increase starting July 3rd 2014 as part of the summer
schedule. Double daily service will be on MON, THU, SAT & SUN. Copa Airlines competes
with Aruba Airlines on the PTY-AUA route.
Aruba welcomed Southwest Airlines with open arms
Aruba Airport was proud to celebrate the arrival of Southwest Airlines’ first international
flight, which since July 1st replaced AirTran Airways’ services and increased from 11 to 15
weekly flights from three different destinations. With this acquisition the airport of Aruba
opens up possibilities for connections from other destinations for passengers who visit our
island. Starting July 1st, 2014, Aruba was one of first 3 international destinations that
Southwest started flying to. Southwest’s service will include all 3 destinations (ATL, BWI &
MCO) that AirTran operated.
Southwest competes with Delta on the ATL-AUA route, but is the sole operator for BWI &
MCO.

service to the island. The Venezuelan carrier, Avior Airlines started its third route, VLN –AUA

Meet Aruba Airport’s new CEO Mr. James Fazio
With close to 30 years of experience in airport management, recently James Fazio moved
from New York to Aruba to become Aruba Airport Authority N.V.’s new Chief Executive
Officer. James Fazio started his career working for the Port Authority of New York/New
Jersey, where he held several positions in airport operations. In 1997, when the
international terminal of the New York airport was privatized, Schiphol Group won the
contract and Fazio transitioned from his job at the port authority to go work for Schiphol
Group as part of the team managing JFK’s Terminal 4. Aruba Airport Authority’s new manager says he was not sure what to expect, and what he
did find is a very modern airport and a team of professionals that has a lot of motivation,
ambition and talent. He adds that the airport has many past successes on its name and he
is ready to roll up his sleeves and work on building on those past successes to make the
airport a place that the people of Aruba are proud of.
The partnership with Schiphol Group benefits Aruba in the sense that it is always good to
have “outside influences”, and Schiphol has “feelers” that extend all over the globe, he said.
“They bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and value to Aruba’s airport and then when
you mix that with the local knowledge, you really do have a recipe for success,” James Fazio
explained. This is a good long term management strategy.
This year, exactly ten years ago, Aruba Airport Authority entered into a Strategic Co-
operation Agreement with Schiphol International. Schiphol International is the division
responsible for international activities at the Schiphol Group, owner and manager of among
others Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. The Strategic Co-operation between the Aruba Airport
Authority and Schiphol Group focuses on making maximum use of Reina Beatrix
International Airport’s commercial potential, to strengthen its financial position and to assist
the airport in further developing the facilities on and around the airport, in order to develop
Reina Beatrix International Airport into one of the leading airports in the Caribbean.
Other News
Aruba Airport introduces APC’s for US bound travelers. Aruba – 8 december 2014: Aruba Airport Authority N.V. proudly introduces a new system
to check passports at Aeropuerto Internacional Reina Beatrix. The computers, known as
“Automated Passport Control Kiosks” (APC kiosks) have already been installed and are being
put into service this week. Among invitees, the minister of tourism, together with Aruba
Airport Authority N.V. presented this new service to passengers and the entire community.
As such, of the more than 300 international airports across the U.S.A. Aruba is the 27th that
has APC kiosks to process passengers by means of these automated systems. Aruba is the
only airport in the Caribbean to have APC Kiosks.
These kiosks were acquired from Vancouver Airport Authority and are BorderXpress kiosks,
which will greatly improve the customs process for passengers traveling to the U.S.A. The
automated system is available to U.S .passport holders and U.S. Lawful Permanent
Residents (LPR) and all Canadian passport holders. The kiosks will also recognize
registration of all passengers from the 38 countries that do not require a U.S. Entry Visa
that have a “Visa Waiver” completed with ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization),
which include Australia, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands and England.
President & CEO of Vancouver International Airport (YVR), Craig Richmond, expressed that
they are very enthusiastic for partnering with Aruba Airport Authority. “As an airport, we
understand the importance of implementing innovative solutions to help passengers get to
their destinations quickly, efficiently and safely. Working with Aruba Airport is a unique and
exciting opportunity for us to bring our BorderXpress Automated Passport Control solution
and pre-clearance expertise to locations outside of the U.S. or Canada and improve the
border clearance process for international travelers,” Richmond commented.
James Fazio, C.E.O. of Aruba Airport Authority, strongly believes that adding APC kiosks will
benefit all US bound passengers, and allow US CBP in Aruba to streamline their enforcement
processes. James Fazio expressed: “This is the first step in a much larger project that will
conclude in the coming years to stream line the passenger flow at the airport. This strategic
purchase will benefit the nearly 60% of total departing passenger bound for US destinations
from Aruba by reducing wait times at US CBP pre-clearance and ultimately facilitate a more
positive outbound passenger experience”.
The introduction of the kiosks is taking place during a heavy travel period, when Aruba in
general and Aruba Airport Authority N.V. experience the high season, with a high
concentration of visitors. With different additional flights and a higher flow of even more
users, another record season is predicted for Aeropuerto Internacional Reina Beatrix and
Aruba’s tourism. Aruba Airport Authority N.V. is determined and makes every efforts
through million dollar investments in among other infrastructure, equipment and personnel
training, to continue offering high quality and superior level of service in the region, where
the visitor experience is every day better from arrival through departure.
Aruba Airport trials “Happy Flow” biometric security and passenger control
Government of Aruba and Vision-Box announced on May 16, 2014 the launch of a 'Happy
Flow' demonstration initiative, designed to implement innovative technologies to improve
airport experience at Aruba International Airport and to establish a pre-clearance situation
between Aruba and The Netherlands & Europe. The event gathers the initiative’s steering
committee consisting of the Prime Minister of Aruba, the CEOs of the Schiphol Group, KLM
and Aruba Airport, the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Justice of The Netherlands, and is
combined with other initiatives, such as the presentation of the first KLM biofuel flight.
The focus of the demonstration was to offer passengers a seamless, fast, intuitive and
secure ground process through the use of face recognition technology and self-service
equipment at every control point of the airport. Instead of using either a passport or a
boarding pass, passengers proceed through all airport control points with their identities
checked by looking at facial recognition cameras. The process is 100% self-service and will
accelerate and simplify airport passenger flows. Under the robust central management
platform, the integration of identity management, security and border control features will
provide airports, airlines and border authorities with a full overview of the travelers’
progress across all control stages, offering gains in security, revenue and efficiency. A
permanent pilot project is planned to be implemented before the end of 2014.
Aruba Airport also celebrated KLM’s 95 years
On October 7, 2014 Aruba Airport Authority N.V. together with the local KLM employees
celebrated the 95th anniversary of Dutch carrier KLM.
As it enters its 95th year of service, KLM is generally considered to be the world's oldest
carrier still flying under its original name. Several airlines that preceded KLM's founding
have been merged into aviation companies that still exist today, but none of those pre-1919
airline brands have survived. Of course, KLM itself merged with Air France in 2004 in a deal
that created the Air France/KLM group. However, each airline continues to operate as a
standalone unit under its own name and brand.
AAA CEO James Fazio and team festively toasted with champagne and blue cake in honor of
one of Aruba’s valued airline partners. The pictures depict the festive atmosphere in Aruba
Airport’s VIP-room when this special milestone was celebrated. Congratulations KLM.
Aruba Airport inaugurated 4 completed projects
Aruba Airport Authority N.V. proudly invited its Tourism partners and dignitaries for a
special moment: the inauguration of 4 completed projects, being Bus gate B, General
Aviation Ramp Extension, East Apron Extension and the new Airfield LED Lighting.
Bus Gate B
Bus Gate B consists of a construction of approximately 400m2 to provide extra seating for
180 passengers to accommodate the passengers that will be making use of remote aircraft
stands. This project also included the construction of extra bathrooms and an F&B facility.
The project took 8 months to complete and accounts for a total investment of
Afl. 1,850,000.
East Apron Extension
Further expansion was made at the East Apron at the airport, creating parking positions 23
and 24. For a year construction workers worked hard to build 2 remote stands for ICAO
category ”C” aircraft, provided with AGNIS – PAPA, LED floodlights and fuel hydrant pits. As
part of the Fuel Hydrant System a valve chamber was constructed to connect apron fuel pits
with the fuel farm. Total investment in The East Apron Extension project is Afl. 13,000,000.
With the completion of these two extra stands the airport now has a total of 18 parking
positions.
General Aviation Ramp Extension
At the south side where private airplanes are handled, another investment of Afl.
22,650,000 was made to make an extension of the General Aviation Ramp. This project
entailed the expansion of the General Aviation Apron with 78%, increasing this apron from
14 to 25 parking positions, the provision of LED taxiway lights and apron floodlights, the
construction of a Helipad, 2 new exits (F & E) and the construction of an open ditch with an
oil and fuel separator to filter the rain water run off before flowing to the sea. This project
had a duration of 20 months.
Airfield LED Lighting
As a regional leader in the airport industry, AAA is very proud to inaugurate the new Airfield
LED lighting system. This project entailed the civil works and replacement with LED
technology of all cables, taxiway & runway edge lights, all aerodrome signs, CCR’s and
control panels. The new runway edge lights were placed at 50 meters instead of 60 meters
to comply with new ICAO regulations. The LED lighting system will provide an estimated
energy saving of approximately 260,000 kWh per year. This project took 2 years to
complete and accounts for a total investment of Afl. 8,610,000.
“With a grand total of Afl. 46,110,000 invested in these 4 projects, we are sure to maintain
our leadership position in the region. Making use of new technology in expansion projects
will definitely help us be more sustainable while at the same offer better service to our
airline partners and airport users,” said proud AAA CEO James Fazio.

Apron of the airport.
