Network Concept

Dear passenger,

whether you’re using the S-Bahn (city railway), train, tram, or bus, the Mitteldeutsche Verkehrsverbund (MDV) combines the benefits of all twenty public transit companies within our transit network area into one unified transit system� Standardised tickets, comprehensive service offerings, coordinated schedules and information, and joint services with the partner transit companies all help move MDV passengers forward faster!

One ticket, all inclusive: within the MDV you can use the train, S-Bahn, tram and bus with just one ticket, and easily switch between different modes of transport – no matter where you bought your MDV ticket or how often you want to switch�

Welcome to the MDV! From 15 December 2019, the MDV fares will apply to the S-Bahn and regional trains in the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Wittenberg as well as in the town of Dessau-Roßlau� For trams and buses in the MDV Nord area, the local fares will continue to apply.

Due to network expansion, the DB fare that has previously applied to S-Bahn and regional trains in the MDV Nord area will be changed� This constitutes a fare change� The transport services that have been added in recent years will remain in place�

All fare regulations for the MDV Nord expansion area can be found on pages 55/56 of this brochure as well as on our website�

News from the City Transit Systems

GrimmaOver the past two years, large portions of the bus network in the district of Leipzig have been redesigned in order to provide passengers with attractive and well-coordinated mobility options during evening hours, weekends, and public holidays�

In addition, from 1 August 2019 onward, Stadtverkehr Grimma (Grimma City Transit) will be offering new, lower rates� This makes using public transport especially attractive for citizens of Grimma�

ABO Aktiv is a new offering (page 32)� The Abo is a personal, non-transferable subscription for persons aged 65 and over and is exclusively valid in Stadtverkehr Grimma�

The 24-hour one-person pass, the ABO Light, the ABO Basic and the ABO Premium rates have been reduced�

Buying tickets for the Grimma city transport system will be easier starting 1 August� Ticket selection options for occasional riders will consist of just a regular single ticket, a child’s single ticket, a regular 24-hour ticket, or a child’s 24-hour ticket�

Brandis and Bad LausickOn 15 December 2019, a new city transit service will also be launched in Brandis and Bad Lausick� As in Grimma, the ABO Aktiv will be available starting in December and a simplified range of tickets will be used�

Further expansion into other cities in the Verbund (network) area may occur in the future�

Fare ZonesThe MDV transit network area consists of numbered fare zones� There are also local municipal transit services in each of the region’s cities� Each fare zone has a corresponding price level�

3 Steps to Obtain Your TicketWhether you use the train, S-Bahn, tram, bus, or even several different modes of transport on your route, you only need one ticket!

Selection of Ticket Type and Price Level:

Select your ticket according to the following criteria:

How often would you like to travel (daily, occasionally, just a single trip)? Do you ride alone or in a group? How old are the passengers?

Price is determined by the number of zones traveled� Start and end zones are each one zone�

Buying Tickets:

MDV tickets are available from transit staff on the bus, transit company service points, ticket machines, and certain retail shops, as well as via the easy�GO mobile phone app�

Validating Tickets:

Is the point of sale at the train station closed, or is the ticket machine not operational? Are you unable to acquire a ticket for other reasons?

In this case report immediately to the service personnel that is available on the train for assistance and to purchase your ticket without additional fees�

Ticket validation Single tickets, 4-trip tickets and 24-hours tickets bought in advance must be validated at the ticket validation machine on the platform (train/S-Bahn) or inside the vehicle (tram/bus) before you start your journey�

Rides between the VVO and MDV networks

For rides between fare zones 41 (VVO) and 127 (MDV), the following transitional fares apply in addition to the fare applied by the railway companies, to include the use of trains, buses, alternative forms of service and the Döllnitzbahn:

Single tickets A for adults and children who attend school up to their 15th

birthday A time validity from the moment of validation: 1�5 hours A changing vehicles permitted within scope of ticket validity A must be validated before travelling A is not transferable once used

Price: 5.50 EUR / reduced price: 2.90 EUR

Weekly passes A valid for 7 consecutive calendar days starting on the stamped

date and ending at 4 am on the 8th day A is transferable to other people

Price: 35.40 EUR / reduced price*: 28.20 EUR

Monthly passes A valid starting on the stamped date of first day of validity and

ending at 4 am on the same calendar date of the following month

Changes for passengersStarting on 15 December 2019, the use of tram and bus in the MDV Altgebiet will be integrated into the tickets for rides between the MDV Altgebiet (former network area) and the MDV Nord (northern network area)� Since only one ticket will be requi-red instead of two, this simplifies the purchasing process�

Starting on 15 December 2019, passengers from the MDV Altgebiet will be able to travel at regular MDV rates by train and S-Bahn from the current network area into the MDV Nord extended area� A ticket over seven fare zones or more will then include validity for rides by train and S-Bahn to the MDV Nord area� Passengers in the MDV Nord area will also benefit from the attractive range of tickets offered by the MDV: an extensive ran-ge of subscriptions, special job tickets – there is a suitable ticket or pass for everyone!

The “Anhalt-Bitterfeld-Wittenberg” fare (ABW fare) that included bus and train rides will no longer exist�
