a proposal was prepared to connect the research and education networks (NRENs) in the Arab countries in one regional network.

The PAN was planned to connect the NRENs in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon using the fiber cables of the power distribution grids between these countries.

The PAN is not implemented yet and Jordan’s Proposal is to integrate it into the NAPs business model

Research & Education networks (NRENs) are dedicated networks connecting Universities, Research Centers, Hospitals, Museums and any other institution that may have research & education activities.

Each country establishes its own (NREN) to provide the connectivity and communications for the research and education communities

Currently most of the countries have established or started implementing an (NREN)

Some countries use dark fiber to build the network and others use available telecom infrastructure by leasing circuits or IP connections.
