Ellison, recently took part in the

Merseyside Wing Adventure

Training Exercise Competition.

This is a highly regarded annual

competition within the Air Training

Corps and the cadets take part in

several areas of training within the

competition.

Firstly, they took part in the navigation part of the exercise in last position, but did such

a fantastic job and came in rst (with plenty of time to spare!). They also took part in

climbing, canoeing, camp craft, archery, a kit check and also an exam on navigationand equipment. The guys did extremely well, especially since they were a very

young team and came home with silver medals. We came 3rd last year, a very well

deserved 2nd this year only pipped to the post by 2 points theres only one way to

go! Congratulations also goes to Cpl Reid who was succeeded in being picked for the

Regional Adventure Training Exercise Competition team.

If youre between 13 and 18 years of age and would like to take part in activities like

the above among other things, we meet on a Tuesday and Thursday night (7pm-

not only to highlight initiatives

supported throughout the

Borough, but also to show Councilemployees the many schemes

already being run internally by the

Council.

With full creative control over the video,

Chat Noir Productions gave

it the tone and feel of a

broadcast commercial, rather

than a standard promotional

video.

To show the breadth ofschemes in place, lming took

place across the Borough, at

Winsford Council Buildings,

All Saints Primary School in

Saughall, Chester Town centre

as well as closer to home at

Neston Market.

Chat Noirs in-house team then used

state of the art special effects to give

the video a uid and dynamic style,

seamlessly mixing live-action footage with

computer animation.

The video has been very well received

at Council screenings and has

already generated debate and

conversation, which was always the

desired intention.

run by Daniel J. Fox of Neston and

Mark Ellingham of Little Sutton

since 2003.

There have been many scares about

personal information going astray and

appearing in the National Press but here

at the Surgery we are pretty darned tight about the whole thing. In a past life I was an

Ofcer in the Royal Navy and one of my many jobs was as Security Ofcer of a Naval

Air Squadron. Not a big job but one that made you paranoid about security, this trait

has kept with me.

I am, at the tender age of 60, a mere youngster here in Little Neston and Neston

At the Surgery we have twice the average number of over 65s for England and have 5patients over the century mark! It must be something in the water!

Why am I on about the slightly older population? I was brought up when there were

no computers, adding machines were mechanical, and petrol was cheap.

My grandson is my tutor on all the latest gadgets and I now have my own laptop, ebay

account, facebook, a Wii and an X box 360, which I play games on (Not too often and

only when my homework is done, younger generation please note.)

I am getting into this modern technology and realize that there are some great

advantages besides playing on my x-box, however some patients have not embraced

the techno age and have opted out of the NHS national electronic record, and they

have every right to do so, BUT there are advantages. If I was anywhere around theUK and was taken ill or had an accident, the Hospital could have access to a summary

of my medical records. They would not have full access to everything on the record

only medication, major illnesses, current medical problems and allergies, things that

are needed in urgent situations.

Electronic prescribing is coming in the near future the doctor will deal with the

request online and the pharmacy will get the prescription over the secure network. Our

patients can already order repeat prescriptions online, (ask at reception if you would

like this service) and in future will only need to go to the Pharmacy to order and pick up

their medication. Patients who have opted out will not be a part of this and will not be

able to take advantage of this service.ALSO in the near future our computer system will be updated and access to your

medical information and appointment booking online may become available. Access

will be by password and pin number Patients who have opted out will not be a part of

this and will not be able to take advantage. At rst I was not too sure about the changes

but the more that I have investigated the more promising things look. If those who

have opted out of the National Electronic Record wish to be a part of the new national

systems please let me know - just hand in a signed note requesting to be opted back

into the National Electronic Record, you never know it may save your life.

I must go now and check the e-mails, not everything is a blessing!

Chance or young actors

to tread the boardsInterACT Youth Theatre (formerly known as Little Actors Youth Theatre) will be offering

a FREE drama project for the summer term for young people aged 11+. The project,

to be devised by the young people, will culminate with a performance at Neston Village

Fair on Saturday 2nd July.

The group was established in 2007 as a result of a grant from The John Thaw

Foundation, to provide a professionally led youth production company in a rural area.

Over the last few years the group has performed at The Lowry, Theatr Clwyd and Tara

Studio (a prestigious fringe venue in London). The group regularly collaborates with

the National Theatre of Great Britain in its Connections new writing programme for

young people. The youth theatre is directed by actors Samantha Giblin and Natasha

Symms. As well as being trained and experienced professional actors in TV and

Theatre, they both acquired extra qualications from the Central School of Speech and

Drama in directing text with young people.

The summer term project is supported by a grant from Project Rural Matters and the

dates for rehearsal are Wednesdays until 6th July, 5-7pm at the Neston Community

and Youth Centre on Burton Road. There is no charge for participation in this project.

The young people will have the opportunity to create a performance piece themselves.

Anyone from Year 7 and above is welcome to come along.

NeSToN RIVeRSIDe WIOUR President is doing an abseil down one of the Mersey Tunnel ventilation

towers on Sunday, 19th June, in aid of BIRD (Brain Injury Rehabilitation and

Development) a local charity. She will be doing the abseil

with her son.

Mark and Carole Philpot were our speakers at our

meeting on 20 April and they gave a talk on Antarctica

(the White Continent). They rst of all gave a short

talk on their trip and told us about the wildlife they had

seen. They showed us a mock up of an Albatross with its

enormous wing span. An afternoon tea was held on 25th April and the meeting

in May was the resolutions meeting followed by a demonstration by a former

chef - Daniel Dawson.
