NEONATAL RESUSCITATION PROGRAM (NRP) INSTRUCTOR COURSE

Wednesday, September 27, 2006 Location: Emergency Department Conference Room Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon NH

This course, designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Heart Association, requires review of neonatal resuscitation skills prior to attending the program. Participants’ knowledge and skills will be tested on the day of the course following discussion, demonstration and videotapes.

8:00 Registration and Coffee 12:45 Endotracheal Intubation 8:30 Introduction & Principles of Resuscitation 1:15 Medications 9:00 Initial Steps in Resuscitation 1:45 Special Considerations 10:00 Break 2:15 Instructor Responsibilities 10:15 Use of Resuscitation Bag and Mask 3:15 Megacode Scenarios 11:15 Chest Compressions 4:00 Wrap Up & Evaluation 12:15 Lunch At the completion of this program the participant will be able to: Identify necessary staff and equipment for every birth to ensure readiness for a complete resuscitation Demonstrate knowledge of neonatal resuscitation by successfully completing the NRP written evaluation Demonstrate appropriate resuscitation procedures in proper sequence for a compromised newborn Identify hospital-based instructor responsibilities
